  • False Reg Nos. in Car Magazines? 29 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Having nothing better to do I checked some of the reg. nos. in What Car. Many of the numbers come back as having no record. Using the August 2007 issue:- The MB C class shown on the cover; the number shows no record. The Alfa non-date number on page 3 shows no record.

  • Woman locks child in car scenario.. 17 Nov 2006 (Forum)
From Manchester Evening News website http://tinyurl.com/yhyzu5 IMHO you can't pay for basic roadside rescue and then expect Green Flag to come out for what is essentially not a breakdown. Granted it was a small child locked in a cold car but still not really in Green Flag's jurisdiction. I sympathise with her predicament, I'm assuming she was 'at home' therefore the breakdown cover was null and void. Not sure about the policy of charging for the truck on it's way, maybe in this instance they should have used a bit of discretion.
  • Rusty discs 26 Nov 2005 (Forum)
With the recent weather and the salting of the motorways I am aware that my previously gleaming, blemish free discs are looking quite pitted with rust. The car like others is absolutely covered in salt and the like, and despite washing it all, and trying to keep the car clean the discs seem to be suffering - I notice when reversing that they now feel gritty when brakes are gently applied.

  • Accident, but Ins. policy cancelled 3 Mar 2005 (Forum)
The following car was driving faster than her, and the rear OS wing on the following car collided with the front NS wing on Ann's car. The police who attended the scene apparently said that both drivers contributed to the accident, i.e. that neither was solely at fault.
  • Hire car firms using Ai to detect damage 15 Jul 2025 (Forum)
One of the big US hire car companies is using Ai to detect the slightest damage to its cars when you return them to the depot. The car is driven though a special bay with detectors covering 360 degrees. After having problems returning a car in Ibiza to this company when they used a hand held scanner to check the car .
  • Returning Faulty Car? 1 May 2009 (Forum)
The car is covered by the manufacturers warranty so it's being repaired by one of their dealers. I've read somewhere in the past that I can contact the finance company with regards the car and there is a way of returning it as it's faulty.
  • Hyundai i30 - How much to dix these MOT failures? 11 Sep 2022 (Forum)
I wont sell it to someone if there’s problems with it (no worse feeling than buying a car that needs work doing from a dishonest seller) so I’d either scrap it or sell it to one of those internet car buying sites. But obviously I’d like to take as small a loss as possible. Thanks everyone :)
  • Toyota Hilux Surf 1993 - UK car across Europe, Non UK driver/owner? 21 Jan 2011 (Forum)
When I tried to make a new insurance problems started to appear, they said a hand written paper for the paid amount of money doesn't prove the car is mine, and that the car needs a yearly road-worthiness check in order to circulate. The only way to get an insurance is to make it at the "previous" owner's name, they say it would be OK to drive the car in Bulgaria because here they insure the car, not the driver, but I'm not sure if I have an accident the insurance will cover without the road worthiness test up to date.
  • Suzuki Baleno - Advice Please 1 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I was told I would need a new mot and vic check done. The car passed the mot but then my inurance informed me on 3 occassions that I would not need the vic check done. They told me once the car had been mot'd then my cover would go back up to fully comp. However, my insuarnce then phoned to tell me I was no longer covered until I had the vic check done.
  • Ford C-MAX - Cmax 1600tdci 2015 clutch issue please help! 8 Nov 2017 (Forum)
So don't know if I should just forget warranty and pay a cheaper independent to fix it, or gamble on warranty. I think it's unfair to be charged so much to find out if it's warranty covered. I've asked if they will accept an independent diagnostics and they won't.  Any ideas? Is it likely to be something covered by warranty? Clutch doesn't feel likes it's slipping it just feels spongy.
  • Audi A4 avant B6 130 Tdi 2002 - Audi A4 Oil sensor warning light 10 May 2014 (Forum)
Worked ok with even more intermittant problems, ie. bleeped at me when temperature got to a certain level and then stayed on. Completely different to my original symptoms. As this sensor is located under the car and covered by splash/wind guard, I could not easily see what part number mechanic had used. So problem bugged me for quite a while. I kept on thinking it was a ECU fault or bad wiring connection.    Finally got fed up with it and we took the under cover off and read the part number 24380 Febi Bilstein!
  • BMW 3-Series E90 (2005 - ) - 06 2.0 Clutch judders and ocassional burning smell 15 Oct 2009 (Forum)
They said it could possibly be the clutch but the can't confirm as they will to investigate by opening up the gearbox and check the clutch. My concern is that the car is coming upto be being 3 years from new and is still under the manufacturer's warranty and done only 30k miles. If it did require clutch replacement, how likely is it that it is due to wear and tear and not covered under the warranty.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 98 1900 Immobiliser bypass!!!! 21 Aug 2009 (Forum)
From what i have read im guessing it is the immobiliser stopping the pump from injecting diesel. i have no keypad immobiliser. I have the later Lucus pump. i have today cut off the tamper proof cover which covers the stop solenoid and found 2 black wires to it. i have one blue plug with 3 wires and a black plug with 4 wires going to the pump. its got to the stage now im pulling my hair out and everytime i look at the car its enough to give me a headache.

  • Motorhome hire or not? 22 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The second query concerns a £500 returnable security deposit to be paid prior to departure. This is to cover for any damage to the motorhomes internal fitments etc-not collision damage which is already covered by insurance. This is payable by credit card and is charged to my card immediately and then refunded within 7 days of our dropping the motorhome back at there UK depot "unharmed".
  • Adjusting the tappets - Ford Fiesta 18 Feb 2007 (Forum)
My Fiesta is sounding a bit more healthy now, the head gasket problem has turned out to be cold weather producing steam and short runs producing mayo, after 50 miles there engine has used little water and produces little steam so I think its safe to say that problem is cured. The camshaft rattle has also reduced a little (probably as the new oil gets to work). The car is still a tad smokey though nothing bad but a little bit more than what is considered normal on a Festa. I am going to spend Saturday on taking the rocker cover off to have a look inside. It as the usual Fiesta diesel sound which suggests to me the pushrods need adjusting.
  • VW Bora 2001 Water ingress 12 Jan 2006 (Forum)
It's not a swimmint pool yet, but I want to get to the bottom of the problem I've looked closely at the pollen filter (and broke a piece off the cover whilst putting it back, which I've replaced), which seems OK. I had the car at VW to be checked and they could not find anything, and suggested a carpet removal costing 5 hours labour and £900 new carpet (to which I declined) The water is definitely getting in through the area where the pollen filter is located though, as the whole area is damp, and the ?
  • Cheap mpv 30 Dec 2004 (Forum)
All the electrics work - even the aircon seemed to come on, although not very cold - I know this was a particular problem with these. New tyres (4) within the last year - still newish - even though they have covered 12,000 miles. Although has been serviced - oil / filter newish. The guy selling had covered 12,000 miles in the last 10 months. Approx 2500 - 3000 of which on holiday through Europe. Paid £3k. What do you think?
