  • Peugeot 307 - Peugeot 307 head gasket 29 Mar 2010 (Forum)
My mum asked me to have a look at her car, as it keeps beeping and flashing a message about topping up coolant. Anyway, to cut a long story short, the coolant system is getting very pressurised, and pushing water out of the expansion bottle, setting off the sensor. Remove the top and water rushes back in (pressure is there even when it's been left for a couple of days!).
  • Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 86 1905 Puzzling Mi16 cold idle problem HELP! 6 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The problem seems to be the switching of the idle control valve. For some reason it isn't getting the right signal to turn on or off. Coolant sensor was changed and this did not affect anything apart from increase the fuel consumption so I've put the old one back in. Coolant sensor is getting 5V at the pins. Could it be this or maybe the tps, I'm not sure how to check this so if anyone has some advise on voltages or resistances I should be checking please contact me.
  • Rover 214 - head gasket failed?? 25 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi all! We have a P-reg Rover 214 (P) whose coolant tank has mysteriously run dry - no signs of any leaks and only topped up with water 2 weeks ago.........then whilst being driven last week emitted a nasty strong odour and started 'bubbling' under the bonnet.
  • Punto cooling/running problem 30 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I have a problem with our Punto 60S 1240cc 8 valve. 1998. It started on 3 cylinders one day last week and was blowing bubbles into its coolant. I tried a can of ?K Seal?, but no use, so off came the head. No 1 had a tiny groove in the head, only about 20thou wide & deep, but it bypassed the thick section of the head gasket. The local breaker supplied a replacement head complete with manifolds, sensors, ignition packs & camshaft.

  • Toyota servicing - is this reasonable? 20 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Just had a quote for a 3 year / 30k mile service on the Yaris which has rather stunned me. They want £118.50 for the service and another £50 to change the coolant which is due at the 3 year mark. According to the book, a 3 year service in an intermediate comprising oil and filter change with brake, tyre and light inspections. Also, as it's 30k there is an air filter change.

  • Stellantis - Main dealer rip-off 19 Jan 2024 (Forum)
A colleague had pointed out to them their car was leaving pools of liquid under it when parked. They admitted they were having to top-up the coolant regularly, so they tried to book it into the main dealer, who stated there'd be a £180 charge to plug it into diagnostics! They took it to a local quick-fit type place, who looked under the bonnet, told them it was the water pump and gave them a price to replace it.
  • BMW 3 Series 318d - 318d 2010 replacement water pump, engine damage? 15 Sep 2019 (Forum)
The mechanic says i should get rid of the car, the engine is running fine but as i ran it on low coolant for a few days, he thinks the engine might be troublesome down the line, though no overheating light came on.  Any opinions on whether he could be right? Thanks

  • Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi - MOT Diesel Emissions 10 Jun 2014 (Forum)

  • Volkswagen Golf IV tdi - temp gauge 25 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Sometimes it seems to be rising and then goes back down again. Is it just a sensor or is the coolant just not getting hot enough. The heating system seems to work fine so I guess it must be electrical, Any suggestions anyone?
  • Volvo V40 11.9 tdi - Dodgy temp gauge 7 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Also - when he stops, the engine fans continue running at full speed and make a lot of noise. They continue for about 5 minutes after switching off. Car has plenty of coolant and is not overheating, could this just be a dodgy thermostat or sensor?
