Citroen Grand C4 Picasso - Liability for gasket head, cambelt, water pump etc 2 Nov 2011 (Forum)
The car was fine until the hot spell at the beginning of October when it overheated again. Once at the garage I was told that they had run a diagnostic test and there was no leak in the coolant system(I was also pressured into replacing my back break pads even though they had passed with no warning in the MOT 2 weeks earlier - I said no to the pads), so they went on to run the engine to get hot and they said the coolant sprayed out and said it was the head gasket that had broken and needed to be replaced, which would cost my around £100 + vat for the part and 10 hours labour, which was offered at a reduced price of £890 + vat (due to the fact I had become very upset, not having that kind of money spare). -
Vauxhall Corsa C 1.7 DI GLS - Lack of Power/Gutless 18 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I bought a second hand fuel pump from a 2004 car that had only done 46,000 miles as the bottom end was knocking after running out of engine oil. 14. I have now ordered new vacuum hoses for the EGR and boost control valves and the hose to the boost unit in case these are collapsing internally. I really am out of ideas now! -
Ford Mondeo - 52 Reg TDCI 130BHP Injectors or what? - HELP! 27 Jun 2010 (Forum)
With a baby on the way, I did not have the money to burn like that, so I used my car until I could find another garage. Every morning, my car would start first time BUT, would smoke lots and the engine would run really lumpy. The engine itself would really wobble. After about a minute, the engine would smooth out and run like a dream. Subsequent start ups would go without a hitch - first time with no lumpiness. -
Musings on Sat Nav/phones + Google/Nokia maps. 7 Apr 2010 (Forum)
3 staff told me i would need a data plan for the Nokia Sat nav to work and that their free Skype software would not work on non 3 handsets..(it proved to be not so) This free skype client runs on the 3 network, initially through their own servers - so a Skype client downloaded off the internet would rack up data charges. The £29 cheaper Phone from Car Phone Warehouse is unlocked - a major consideration... -
Land Rover Defender (1946 - ) - Land Rover or other 4X4 for a smallholding? 27 Sep 2009 (Forum)
The intended use in this case is agricultural: I am negotiating to buy an abandoned farm in the West of Ireland, and if successful I intend to run some of it as a smallholding and to plant a significant chunk of forest on much of the rest. I may not succeed in buying it, but I am trying to do some of my research in advance, to get an idea of costs. -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - High mile. What to do, keep or replace? 22 Jan 2009 (Forum)
t do without a car due to work. This means it?s difficult to sell one car then buy a second, or to run the 206 until it dies then get a replacement. Of course, I could use this as an excuse to put the Micra back on the road already as a third car? So as you can see, I?ve got a lot to think about! Over to you. -
Une carte postale 1 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Lots of bottle age (up to a decade), some serious wines giving any claret I saw for sale (this was not a wine-buying trip) a very good run for its money. For instance Corbieres, Cahors, Bandol, Faugeres - some quite extraordinary vins de garde which had been made in an old-fashioned way and given sufficient time to show how they could develop. -
A popular car in Iraq... 24 Sep 2003 (Forum)
The Isuzu V6 engine has anti-knock sensors but cannot cope with petrol you would be hard pushed to set light to with a match. These Fieldmission bullit-proof cars are saving lives every day. [1] this post has been run past the moderators. -
Toyota Yaris - Replacement car for daughter 25 Aug 2025 (Forum)
She has no off road parking and maintenance is not a word she is familiar with, hence the vehicle is pretty unloved and looks battered to say the least. The plan was to run it until such time as it became uneconomic. With the next MOT looming, I am wondering if that time is now. I see three options – A – keep going to the next MOT and repair or buy another car as circumstances dictate It would be helpful to have a more planned transition rather than cope with a carless crisis, as whilst she doesn't do a lot of miles a car is almost a necessity. -
Mazda 3 - Gear Shift Issue 29 Aug 2024 (Forum)
What could the issue be caused by and are there any easy diagnostic tests that can be run to identify the possible issue? Is this something that should be diagnosed by a mechanic or would I need to see a specialist? -
Citroen C4 Picasso - Car Recall not notified. Damaged engine 6 Aug 2024 (Forum)
They advised that due to the fact that this hasn’t been actioned it has caused serious engine issues. The dealer had run a diagnostics on the car before sending to Citroen in order for the recall to be fitted. We did not receive anything to advise of a recall needing actioned. Contacting Citroen they advised they sent letters in March 23, December 23 and March 24. -
Sub £3k Petrol Estate vs Petrol MPV 3 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Just before his diagnosis we bought a pile of bricks in the countryside which I am now renovating full-time alongside caring for my son. My wife has a reliable car for work but I still need a car for the school run, hospital trips etc, but also to haul materials to and from the house. It would only be doing around 3k miles a year though. As we currently live on one income, cheap to own is also important. My current car is hideously expensive to own so it has to go, I expect to get around £3k for it which sets my budget to change vehicle. -
Toyota Yaris 1.33 (2009) - Engine management light. Different faults recorded 22 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Someone suggested a loose or corroded wire but as the fault is so consistent at 15-20 miles local driving and never before that and because it never came on a motorway driving at speed I can’t see that being a wiring fault. It’s too consistent to my mind to be a loose or corroded wire. Desperate and running out of ideas. Anyone help? -
Citroen C4 Picasso 2l Blue HDi manual diesel 2015 - "Engine fault, arrange repair" warning light 4 Feb 2023 (Forum)
I have had the car from new, it has covered 63k easy miles, is fully dealer serviced. The driving in mainly in 70 or 100 mile runs mainly dual carriageway or motorway with no stop start journeys, and averages 54 to 58 mpg. The dealer has replaced the fuel filter , then the fuel pump with neither curing the problem. I must add that the dealer has had the vehicle over night when it has been cold so that they cold put it on the diagnostic check when the fault was occuring. -
Research Hazard Prediction while driving test! :) 13 Jan 2023 (Forum)
I need your help with the first of a series of surveys that will be included in my research project. This research is not funded and I have run it past the forum moderator, who has completed the test and found it fun. It would be very helpful if as many of you as possible took part in it. There is an extended information sheet in the link to provide you with all the necessary information about the current research, and to make sure that you are fully informed about your rights and the procedure of the study before taking part. -
Lexus RX300 2006 62k mileage £4500 - Used vehicle not fit for purpose, dealer arguing 14 Jan 2022 (Forum)
I recently bought a Lexus RX300 2006 with 62k mileage for £4500 MOT was 10th Feb 2020, bought it on 10th May 2020. Test drive fine and everything seemed to run ok. 10 days later took for a full service and the garage told me the bad news about it having massive corrosion underneath with corroded pipes, major oil leak, parking brake broken, tyre down to the rim. -
Galaxy Mk3 TDCi - Galaxy Mk3 leak. Does this look normal? 3 Jan 2022 (Forum)
Main question after all this is whether water should end up underneath the plastic cowl that runs long the underside of the windscreen? Kind of hard to explain without a photo. I can understand that at either end any water should drain down the skuttles, but it isn't obvious that water dripping in the middle will get there, and might be the source of leaking into the cabin through any bulkhead fitting. -
Honda, Ford Vauxhall, VW, Skoda etc - New job (Yay!) maybe need a new car.... 20 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Haven't driven a smaller engined NA petrol for so long can't really remember much about it. Running costs would need to be on the affordable side and I am thinking about geting some basic kit so I can do my own oil changing and basics. Have a good local mechanic I can trust as well. TL:DR. -
Renault Clio - No good reason to Buy a Pre Reg Car 11 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Apart from a water leak after i bought it that was repaired and Renault compensated me with 4 years free service plan , Everything has been fine with the car , 57 mpg approx and still running the same tyre's , The car now has 26K on the clock. I bought the car for £11.500 from Renault retail. 4 years on and now its out of its service plan and it will need a new set of tyre's in the next few months , So i have been looking around to see what cars i can buy Pre reg, Turns out that Renault have stopped using Diesel engines in their clios and i have only found one Diesel which is around the £1500 mark in lookers in Carlisle. and Renault retail have a mass of Pre Reg White basic model Clios marked up at £11,000 with very low MPG, Maybe 42 depending on driving plus all cars now you have to pay road tax, So for myself and my wife who only do 7000 mile a year, Manufactures are giving us no good reason to buy a fresh car and that's down to the way the government have changed the road tax set up and the lack of choice from Renault by doing away with Diesel's. -
VW cc 2016 - VW Group cars with 02252 Generator fault on OBD 20 Jun 2020 (Forum)
So many customers are paying for new AGM batteries and Alternators and this issue is a known fault in the wiring harness going to the main agents is pointless as VW Group would need to run a massive re call and be hit with warranty claims hire car fees etc. The errors are on Audis and Seat and Skoda and Vw. Many many support forums are listed with customers being told many things but not the truth.
