  • Fiat 500 1.4 Lounge 2008 - Climate Control Fan Blower Problem. 5 Jun 2023 (Forum)
When operating the up/down fan speed control, the bar graph display responds accordingly. With the engine running and cold temperature set, the compressor is not engaging. Due to fan problem? Unable to find a wiring diagram of the system. Controller part number:735451997. Due the very low cost of these units on Ebay, circa £25, it is unlikely that they fail.
  • EV depreciation after three years - 23 May 2023 (Forum)
A 3 yr old Audi eTron is £30k, with 5 yrs of battery warranty remaining and the option to extend the warranty. For some, that might represent a bargain, and a scenario of where EV running costs are better than ICE!
  • 2019 Peugeot 2008 1.2puretechEAT6 130 - Progress report, oil usage 30 Apr 2023 (Forum)
3y6m old at exactly 20,000 miles, time for oil and filter change, last done by me at 10,000miles. I've read that these engines can be oil burners, so I'm keeping a watchful eye on it having run it in carefully since new.  Bosch 451 103 355 filter replaced by Mann W7058 and old Castrol Magnatec 0-30 stop/start drained and replaced with 3.5 l new (no expense spared - only the best for our little baby engine!).
  • Ford Focus - Advice on buying a second hand car 7 Sep 2022 (Forum)
Dear All Firstly, thank you very much for taking the time to consider my queries (further information below). For some background information, I am living in the Cambridge area and I have been running a 2013 Ford Focus Diesel with 150,000 miles on the clock (purchased for in the region of £3,500 several years ago). I was unfortunately most recently involved in a crash, and in all likelihood, the car is not worth repairing (crumpled wheel arch and wheel bent inwards) - although this is to be confirmed later this week.
  • SUV - Next car. PCP vs loan vs finance. Diesel vs petrol 24 Jun 2022 (Forum)
I'm unsure essentially and would like to see the opinion of the forum!  My wife will drive the car daily, which consists of 7 minute school run, 5 of which are on national speed limit 60mph road, and general driving to and from shops just a couple of miles, it would probably go on the motorway once a week to see relatives within 30mins, and then once or twice a year do a longer journey 3+ hours for a UK holiday/city breaks/longer away relatives etc Welcome all advice and apologies for the long winded post!!
  • Citroen C4 Picasso - Handbrake faulty message on Cit C4 57 17 Jun 2022 (Forum)
What also happens, is if I don't turn the ignition back over as it tries to stall, and instead I rev it some to stop it cutting out, for about 1-2 minutes the car 100% has a drag to it, a real weight and getting it up to 30 on the road isn't as easy as it should be. I've had the motor to a garage, and he just suggested to change the battery as it was running at 35% workrate, which I did, sadly to no avail. I've once thought it was as simple as changing my biting foot position on the clutch, maybe I wasn't giving it the way it liked it, so I actually adjusted my driving, and I hit the perfect point for the car where I'm not putting it through unnessecary stress to set off, but that didn't solve the problem either.
  • Renault Megane - Bought a new car but they cant MOT it? 31 Mar 2022 (Forum)
None of them raised concerns that the car can't have it's MOT done as NI is part of the UK but has a government run MOT program, whereas on the mainland any garage can get approval to perform MOTs. So, I contacted the MOT garage (next door to the dealer but separate business) to ask them what the problem was and they advised that they couldn't get it on their system, even using the VIN number.
  • Peugeot 107 (Auto) - Clutch replacement advice 23 Feb 2022 (Forum)
Will check wiring instead Update 4 - called to say no update, hadn’t received wiring diagram until later on in the afternoon so no progress Update 5 - Nothing said about wiring, told instead that actuator needs to be sent off after all Update 6 - Couldn’t get hold of the company who’d been sent the actuator Update 7 - Actuator has been refurbished but the company seems to think it’s now an incorrect clutch kit that’s been fitted Update 8 - Waiting for software to download to be able to take the car for a road test Update 9 - Still waiting on software to finish downloading Update 10 - Software update hasn’t worked, now waiting on someone with a more detailed machine to run their own checks    None of these updates really make much sense to me, and I'm getting desperate to have my car back, they'll have had it 3 weeks tomorrow.    I don't know what to say to the garage - I just ask them to keep me updated as I don't know anything about cars which is why I'm reaching out to people a bit more clued up.
  • Dacia Sandero TCe90 2021 vs Kia Rio 1.0 T-GDi 2 2018 12 May 2021 (Forum)
Neither of the cars are powerhouses - the Sandero has around 90 bhp and the Rio around 98 bhp, and both would be about the same cost to insure and run.  The cost to buy would also be about the same which seems crazy considering that I would be buying the Sandero from new and the Rio would be 3 years old, but of course there are pros and cons to each option.
  • Hyundai Tucson (old model) - Just Bought a New 19 Mar 2021 (Forum)
It will probably be my last diesel car.  I'll keep you updated with fuel consumption and running issues / good and bad.
  • Not all electric cars are equal 1 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Official figures say the Tesla does 3.79 miles per kWh, the Polestar does 3.22, but the VW was the best of the trio at 3.96 miles per kWh. In the same issue, in the 'our cars' section, where a Zoe is being run as a long term test, the official miles per kWh is given as 4.6, but the actual figure (2 months so far) is 4.2. Still pretty good compared to the brand new ID.3 though.
  • Getting a car's alternator to charge the battery 20 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Whilst in recent years, I've done a low annual mileage (only 2,000 - 5,000 miles), 95%+ of that is made up of regular runs of 10-15 miles each way to a nearby town (shopping trips) plus often two weeks driving down to the West Country for holiday (up to 1000 miles) and the occasional 35 mile each way visit to my parents.
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso - Violent Engine Vibration Shaking 30 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I have previously had outstanding advice here! Thankyou Honest John.  13/05/2020 I still have the car. I have not tried to run it. I had a good look at the crankshaft pulley that has rubber etc to take the shock out of the timing belt. It appears central and OK. I have heard these fail and cause violent vibration.  Decision time.
  • n/a - Essentials of good service. 29 Jul 2020 (Forum)
----------------------------------------------- So where does this eminently sensible advice come from? Some sort of up to the minute vehicle engineering consultancy run by lots of degree level business advisors with MBA's? The truth is rather humbling. It's in the foreword to the Ford Model T service manual published by Ford Detroit. It's not dated but is probably printed around the 1920's - a hundred years ago!
  • Ford Ka - Air Conditioning Problem, Fan Doesn't Start 1 Jul 2020 (Forum)
My initial suspicion was that the gas was simply low so I topped it up using a cylinder that I already had. The compressor clicked into life and appears to be running as normal. The pipe on the compressor outlet is hot to the touch, the return should be cold but isn’t. At this point I noticed that the radiator fan was not turning on, (I think it is supposed to turn on at low speed with the ac).
  • Ford Focus - 55 reg Focus 1.8 TDCi white smoke when cold 27 Mar 2020 (Forum)
I should point out that it's been during the cold weather we've had lately, I don't know what it's like when the engine isn't practically ice cold, but if I drive for enough time to get the oil temp up to above 60C on the guage, then leave it for 15 minutes and get back in, it starts smoothly and cleanly. Once the engine is warm, it runs fine, smooth power through the whole rev range, I can feel when the turbo kicks in, good fuel economy, no smoke when revving.  I've got no warning lights on, and no other problems.  The engine bay is clean, with no obvious leaks.
  • n/a - Overtaking over solid white lines in France. 12 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Forget that rule in France - it's different, and being France, it's complicated! Firstly, the rule in France is that it is not permitted to cross, straddle or run your wheel on a solid white line except in some special circumstances:- The Highway Traffic Act makes a difference between the overlap of a continuous white line and its crossing.  If you ride a  continuous line ( LH wheel on the line)  : a few centimeters or almost the entire vehicle, the penalty will be the same.
  • Golf GTD - Buying a Golf GTD 31 Aug 2019 (Forum)
The concerns I have here is, are they just being overly-cautious to give me a good product? Or am I being given a run around? Does the mileage cause an issue? Does the PSH cause concern? Where can I find out the service history? What should I do? Is this deal worth it?   Thanks for reading, I appreciate any help you can offer me.
  • Post-delivery discover engine duff any recourse? 3 Nov 2018 (Forum)
So long story short- I saw on ebay a classic car that was described being in great condition, running well, and would need very little tlc. It was a long way from home, so after a couple of calls and discussions with the private (but I think does sell a few motors here and there) seller I decided to risk it.
  • Golf 4 1.8- 20V Turbo AUM - Golf 4 Gear issue 20 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Since doing all this and taking it for a spin, the gears wont engage with the engine running...( tho will when engine off)..the car lurches when in gear from first and key on...I have attempted to reset the cable linkages at the stick and gearbox ends...this seemed successful tho am not entirely sure the plunger on the box was supposed to depress as far as it did and also the locking tab seemed to spin a little too freely and little resistance was felt...however the plunger did depress and an "off engine" cycle of the gears seemed ok.
