  • Ford Dealer Incompetence 13 Mar 2005 (Forum)
This is not just one but several. Last year I had a Mondeo serviced by a local dealer who overfilled the oil and damaged the car while replacing the pollen filter. The scuttle cover and pollen filter cover had screwdriver marks and after a meeting with the service manager it was agreed that the damaged parts would be replaced FOC.
  • Vectra 2.0Di To Dip Or Not To Dip. 22 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I drove the car from the garage this morning, arrived at work about 9am then dipped it at lunch (1:30pm). The oil level was covering the entire plastic level- way above max. I've phoned the garage and they said the engine oil should be checked about 15mins after stopping the engine which in this case would probably give a low, artificially low in my opinion, reading of the engine oil level.
  • Insurance for 'weekend' car 21 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Anyway - does anyone know how I might be able to insure this additional car for sensible money? Obviously no classic car policy will cover it. I have full NCB on my other car (as wife does on hers) and I never made a claim on the classic car policy. Come to think of it, never claimed anything from anyone for a long time.
  • Various - Honest John QA 6 Nov 2021 (Forum)
I've just looked at Dan Powell's reply about a garage charging 45ppm for depreciation on a faulty used car. He seems to think 45ppm is ok as it's the HMRC rate BUT that rate is for drivers using cars for work so has a large proportion of that 45pence per mile to cover fuel, insurance and tax. The depreciation element is only a fraction of 45p per mile but he doesn't even consider that.
  • Any - 36 month warranty for buying online 28 Dec 2020 (Forum)
"Quote from an advert" As an incentive to purchase on-line and to give you added protection and confidence, we are including 36 months comprehensive warranty and 12 months breakdown cover free of charge for all purchases (with exception of TVR, Bentley and Aston Martin) made during lockdown.   I have found this particular dealer to be very good and fair in the past, but is this a first for used car sales.
  • Suzuki SX4 S-Cross 1.0 SZ-T uneven rear tyre wear 13 Aug 2019 (Forum)
My car was bought new in September 2017. Like some other owners, I noticed that both rear tyres were significantly worn on the outer edge. Following the car's recent 18,000-mile service my dealer obtained sanction from Suzuki to replace the rear axle beam and fit two new tyres - all covered by warranty and at no cost to myself.
  • All makes - Maximum fuel efficiency speed 15 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Radio 2's homwork query today at 6.45pm was 'at what speed would a car cover a set distance using the least fuel?' The answer was rather flimsy, but apparently 52-56 mph [ignoring all the car variables etc]. Most time was spent waffling on about making sure the boot was empty and so forth.
  • SAAB 9-3 - identify turbo 8 Sep 2010 (Forum)
My turbo has died  and I need to identify which turbo I need, the car is running  and I need it so I can't strip out the original. The car is year 2000 and it's a light pressure turbo, the top plate covering the plugs is red and the engine number is  B204EDM00Y037203.
  • Ford Focus 2007 - Sudden leak in PS plus whirring sounds 1 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Today the car started making whining noise as I drove out the gate. It seems to be the PS system. There's a leak somewhere, oily fluid deposited on the belt and wheels and dripping onto the ground.  Immediately parked the car up before more dmage is done.
  • Audi A3 + S3 (2003 - 2008) - Traction Control in snow 2 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I tried to get up a slight ramp incline covered in fresh snow to get into my drive this morning and the cars front wheels started spinning like mad which I've never experienced before in any other car The only way I was able to get in was by digging the snow out of the way.
  • Worth persuing? 9 Mar 2007 (Forum)
My van has been damaged AGAIN, this time in the local car park. The rear wing is again bent badly. Needless to say, Im throughly pink fluffy diced off. Anyway, first question - there is CCTV covering the carpark - is it possible to find out who did it using this CCTV as they didnt leave any details?
  • Pass Plus in N. Ireland 10 Oct 2006 (Forum)
The car insurance websites don't seem have a facility for putting this in. Thanks, Alan
  • Peugeot 406 HDi Brakes 10 Sep 2004 (Forum)
My 406 has covered 73K and has suffered warped front discs almost since new. Tally to date is 7 new sets or disc skims and they are still not cured. 'Repair' lasts 4-5K before they start to go again. I'm not heavy on brakes (70K on my other car and only recently had 2nd set of discs + pads) and I don't keep the pedal down after a hot stop.
  • Everyone's favourite German supermarkets 8 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Hope the mods don't mind this, but we've covered this sort of thing before when there's been car specific items. Next week Aldi and Lidl have gone car accessory bonkers in their selection of weekly specials, with the highlight being a handheld satnav type thing at Lidl, although for the slightly tighter budget Aldi will be doing a quality looking chamois leather for £2.99 http://www.lidl.co.uk and http://www.aldi.co.uk No connection, nor endorsement from me although my Lidl tree loppers and bike lights were a bargain the other week !
  • errr! squeaking brakes! \'94 Fiat Punto 18 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I have been told by my local mechanic that the discs are worn out. The pads were recently replaced and the mechanism seems free. The car has covered 61,000 miles and this appears to be early on in the cars life to replace the brake discs. Any ideas or am I resigned to the fact that I have to replace these parts? Many thanks FP
  • Passat TDI coolant temperature gauge 12 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My friend has a Passat TDI 115 and has a problem with the coolant temperature gauge. As the car warms up it just comes on to scale and slowly rises just short of normal temperature then quickly falls back off scale and continues to cycle like this whilst the car is running. Definitely no overheating problems and engine management is OK with no faults.
  • Cleaning windscreen with potato 6 Jul 2003 (Forum)
cut in half- is it a good idea? What about vinega? Been cleaning a car up for sale, and reduced to using turtle wax bug and tar jockum_what is the best? If i have a car absolutely covered in dirt from years of neglect, what is the best stuff to use before polish (obviously after i wash it).
  • Mk IV VW Golf steering 30 Aug 2002 (Forum)
My MK IV Golf 1.6 has always pulled ever so slightly to the left, even since new. Front tyre wear seems Ok and even (have covered 24,000 miles). The left-pull is consistent-happens on any road, any speed. Had steering laser-aligned by VW; they made several minor adjustments but, you guessed it, it still pulls to the left. But driving the car on an area of flat new asphalt car park shows there is no left-pull whatsoever.
  • Plastic engines 8 Jun 2002 (Forum)
A quiet day at work, so I've been thinking about the use of plastics in car engines. We now have plastic manifolds, cam covers, throttle bodies and much more, so why not go all the way and mould the engine block and cylinder head in plastic, with metal inserts in the appropriate places?
  • USED PRICE 4 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I am trying to sell my Aug 01 (Y reg) blue Fiesta Zetec S with aircon, 6 CD stereo, heated front screen and electric mirrors. The car has covered 5000 miles and has 1 owner from new. What price should I realistically expect if I advertise the car privately, and what figure should I be looking for as a part-exchange. Any advice most welcome.
