Subaru Impreza III (2008 -) - 1000+km in new Impreza 22 Oct 2007 (Forum)
This model has electric PAS and unfortunately has that slightly wooden feeling that many of these systems have - it feels a bit like a BMW Mini in that respect, to be honest. Not nearly as nice as the steering of the old car. Japanese roads are very smooth and well graded - so its hard to comment on the ride as it would be experienced in UK. -
Fun practical used car for £6-8k 14 May 2007 (Forum)
I really like the look of the Hyundai Coupe but am not convinced they're very good to drive. I'm not keen on the new MINI and don't see myself as a BMW driver, but would still like plenty of toys for the money (choice between a high-spec Mondeo and a poverty-spec BMW or Audi and I'd go for the Mondeo straight away; likewise I'd tend to go for a Seat Leon rather than VW Golf). -
Seat adjustment advice 4 Mar 2007 (Forum)
It may be just the car is too small, although in theory for cars 'one size fits all' it would be easier if I was only 5-7'' etc. The only car I remember that was similar was an original Mini back in the 80's where you always had a hunched driving position. Reason for all this is I have got some back pain between my shoulder blades, feels like my spine is seizing up (2 hours per day commute) and wanted to get it sorted. -
Suzuki Swfit at 5000 miles & 7 months 30 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Mini-review on the Suzuki Swift 1.5GLX I bought for my sister back in May 2006. The car has now done 5000 miles. I drove it recently and also drove it for its first 500 miles back in May. Sister has been highly delighted with the car. -
Golf Mk 5 Buying Decision 10 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I currently run a Golf TDI 130 mark 4 model. I bought it new two and a half years ago as an EU import, after I had to hurriedly reject a new Mini Cooper. The Golf has been faultlessly reliable, there are no squeaks or rattles and the engine is smoother and zippier than ever. Running in took a while though, exclusive use of Shell Diesel and 18 mile part motorway commute to work probably helped. -
Car Sharks, and the plain daft 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Fiat 126 where the boot (at the front) was found to have a flip top facility as the front of the car (on which it was hinged) all but came away from the wings. A Mini that a daft (not dishonest) aqaintance offered to me. I later bought this for spares. I tried to salvage the front bumper so thought I would simply break the number plate away to make removal easier. -
2022 Range Rover 30 Oct 2021 (Forum)
These features have been seen before on other vehicles but I still think they are noteworthy, ones i recall are: Four wheel steering giving it the same turning circle as a current gen Mini. Chassis dynamics integrated with the sat nav so it braces for corners or rough road conditions All four doors and the boot are power operated. That includes opening as well as closing and it will work even at off road angles. -
Priority - For benefit of Galileo 1 Mar 2020 (Forum)
It may have been 'always ' in France, known as 'priorite a droite' but was brought in here to apply at roundabouts, especially 'mini' roundabouts. Yet again a factoid not supported by the Highway Code or Road Traffic Acts. (Driver since 1961, myself) Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Car bought from VW main dealer was stolen... 5 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I bought a Golf GTI from a main VW dealer (paid cash and CC) from their Used Approved scheme back in summer 08 - car was 18 months old at the time and since them have had no major problems with it. Present day: I want to sell the car so I contact a mini dealer about a part ex so, when I tell him the reg, he comes back to tell me the car is listed as stolen/recovered a year before I purchased it. He uses Experian Motor check. I then pay for a HPI check myself (hpicheck.com) and do my own check and stranger still it comes back clean as a whistle. -
BMW - BMW clamping down on cheap online sellers 15 Feb 2008 (Forum)
As many as 4,000 While Abbott said he does not have exact figures for the number of cars sold through unauthorised resellers, he believes it could be as many as 4,000 of the new BMWs and Minis sold in the UK annually. The UK is BMW's third largest market after the US and Germany." -
Volkswagen Golf V estate (2007 - ) - - first impressions 29 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Being the first of a new model, the Golf estate should hold its value well anyway. I'm going to enjoy driving again now without having to resort to the Mini. Wish me luck. -

Just thought you'ld like to know... 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The difference between 30mph and 35mph is an extra stopping distance of six and a half metres, longer than two Minis. If a car is dropped nose down from the height of a two storey building, it will be travelling at around 30mph when it hits the ground. The impact of a vehicle travelling at 35mph is 36% harder. -
Musings - Freedom is not an illusion - the biro 21 Apr 2010 (Forum)
You might just remember those little wooden pen shafts and asking for a new nib - which you then pushed onto the end of the mini pit prop - and dipped it into the reconstituted powdered ink - mixed with water - in that little ceramic inkpot set into the hole at the right top of your desk. The desk with the pre WW1 initials of former sufferers - the brooding presence of the Master with his ready to throw blackboard rubber and the banning of the newly introduced biro - it being considered decadent and a potential inducer of corruption as to the formation of writing - even to the extent of degrading the actual letters. -
Honda - These older Hondas are so good! 15 Dec 2008 (Forum)
In fact the dials are a model of clarity compared to many modern cars. It has not been cleaned in months if not years, so last week it had a mini valet followed by me giving a deep vacuum and brushed all the dust from the nooks and crannies. I have to say, that if I didn't get the Outback back, I would be very happy with this car (at least until summer car and I missed the air-con). -
Which? magazine advise 'Don't buy these tyres' 23 Dec 2013 (Forum)
claim in their March 2008 edition that their tyre testing is more thorough than any other UK magazine. As a result of their latest test of tyres for medium size cars and super-minis they recommend Don?t Buy the following: QUOTE 175/65 R14T We found the Avon CR322 Enviro was particularly poor in wet conditions A key weakness appeared to be when braking and gripping on a bend in wet conditions. -
Skoda Roomster Se TSI 86bp - The first new car purchase 16 Jun 2013 (Forum)
So have a look on web sites to se what is arround at prices we could afford and found Honest John and looked at all the reviews. we whittled it down to the following Hyundai Ix20 mini MPV, Kia Venga, Skoda Fabuia Estate and the Skoda Roomster. We went to the local Maidstone dealers and test drove all found nothing wrong with driving the Ix20 and the Venga in fact quite a nice drive but found that the boot space was not big enough to accomidate a rather athritic old colly and a colly cross lab also the dashboard controls resembled a fighter plane and rather confusing. -

Seat Leon FR TDI - To replace or not? A diesel dilema 28 Apr 2011 (Forum)
One thing I do want is better comfort than the Leon gives - it's ride is terribly hard: 2010 Volvo C30 T5 R Design (£15k) 2010 Skoda Octavia VRS TFSI (we have had a diesel Octavia in the past so know what I'm dealing with here) (£15k) 2010 Honda Civic Type R (£15k) 2010 Mini Clubman Cooper S (£15K- This would be a leftfield choice for me!) Your advice and comments appreciated... -
Advice on my next car 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I want to buy second hand as I don't really have a large budget to finance the replacement, maybe £2,000-£3,000 max. I really dislike mini-mpvs, especially a hire car Vauxhall that leaked oil over the new drive a couple of years ago. Before I get the chequebook out for the cam belt, I would welcome any wisdom you might share in choosing a replacement car, should I go down that path.
