  • Is it underhanded for a repairer to carry out work if they know they aren't insurer-approved? 23 Jan 2018 (Ask HJ)

  • Any - Would The Rust Fairy be A Felon? 6 May 2024 (Forum)
Suppose further that you had some home made rust inhibitor (hypothetically, a mix of diesel, hydraulic and sunflower oil) left over from treating your own car. Suppose on the third passing, late at night, you cracked and skooshed some over the bonnet and down the grille in front of the windscreen (a rot trap on these). Suppose this happened in the UK, and not some corner of a foreign field where the law would be different If you got caught (video?)
  • Mazda 2 sport nav - Brake pads 20 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Ps it was us who told garage the issue at 14,000 miles as we new identical to the issue at 7,000 miles ( loud grinding noise when breaking sharply , we were doubted in my opinion. . First time round it was put down to town driving ( London ). It is only after reading reviews of car that now realise that poor a/c heating cooling system is also not correct and not just quirkof car ( so booking in for check ASAP.) We of course have been saved by leasing company paying under maintenance agreement when in fact the reporting issue for these issues is to leasing company first and they themselves should be taking it up with manufacturer.
  • Fiat Punto 1.2 - How Important is it to fit the right head gasket ? 21 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I would really appreciate any advice, had a head gasket done and car still playing up, over heated 5 weeks after having it done with car making horrendous knocking sounds and smoke coming from drivers side front binnet, took it back, mechanic said the fan had gone, replaced that, didnt resolve it, then said it was water pump, didnt resolve it, then said radiator had blockage, didnt resolve it, had diagnostics run and the temp sensor is faulty.
  • Help, Opinions reqd re VW Passat TDI, 28 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Seen a Y red (5/01) VW Passat 1.9 TDi (130bhp) Sport estate 6sp in dark metallic blue. Its got climate, twin heated front seats, half leather/alcantara, trip computer, 6 disc autochanger. 65,000 miles with full VWSH. As usual no mats or first aid kit (why do the dealers not insist on them being retained?). Test drove it today, very smooth no smokiness even at startup, although turbo whistle notable.
  • Vauxhall Frontera Heat shield rattle 1 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Hi all, The head gasket went on the wifes 1998 Frontera a little while back. When the garage fixed the head they sheared a bolt off the heat shield (the heat shield which covers the manifold I think - to the right of the engine when looking in). This now rattles all the time and drives me crazy when driving it! Vauxhall dealership told me this can be taken off and was removed in the future models built after this one.

  • Jag XJS 4.0 - Do I have to use Insurers accident damage repairer 13 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Ironically, I was concerned the Jag was sticking out somewhat from a small space so I went to move it, drove around, found a unobstructed full space and parked the car perfectly. Came back 1 hr later to this: http://s108.photobucket.com/albums/n40/guygamps/Car/ Note: car is perfectly parked within all the white lines, in fact about 1ft back from the front lines Still the perpertrator left a note on windscreen which is decent and honest so it is now in hands of insurers The car has been inspected by Brian Robson Coach Works.
  • Well done Halfords 11 May 2009 (Forum)
We moan enough so here is my experience today. My front wipers have not been very efficent leaving marks on the windscreen everytime it rains. So I went to buy some today from this shop for £14.50 and they are a very good quality a lot better than cheap pound shop things which were on before.

  • Mazda MX5 - Heated rear screen fault 1 Dec 2010 (Forum)

  • Vauxhall Zafira - Zafira b recall work and missing heater fuse 17 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Had my recall work done for the heater motor work at Vauxhall bristol street motors local garage over a year ago. Since then my heating has never got hot only ever so slightly luke warm. The fans work fine but never any heat coming out, seems strange after it has had recall. After some recent investigation I have checked the fuse box and realised fuse 4 is now missing ( heating and air con).
  • Land Rover Discovery (1989 - 1998) - 1997 2.5 Over Heating. Need Help Bad!!! 6 Mar 2009 (Forum)
As soon as I would start it again, the engine would be cooler, and the heat would be back on. Anyway, Replaced the radiator with a used one, drained the system, put in a new thermostat housing and thermostat, & new water pump. Still over heating and not overheating. Heat comes on and soon goes off.
  • Ford C-MAX 2.0 TDCI GHIA - C-Max electrical failure due to heated rear window 9 Dec 2010 (Forum)
During invesitigation at main dealer multiple circuits were isolated to locate fault.  After car had been fixed multiple items on car fail when heated rear window turned on, fault is not consistent and can not locate fault.  When heated rear window operated the radio switches off completely (no time on screen), rear window heater does not operate (light on dash operates) interior lights do not work, rear wash wipe does not operate and rear door locks do not work, there may be others but have not checked operation of all eatures but all other electrical systems seem to function correctly.
