At such a low price, there’s every chance the vendor will simply give up and scrap it, or it might even get bought as a run-it-till-it-drops banger by someone who just needs a cheap set of wheels. And while the Fiat Tempra S is hardly an Italian thoroughbred that’s going to have a queue of aficionados lining up to be ‘Il Pilote’, to lose such a rare car would be a crying shame.

Then, with the car on a lift you need to loosen the bolt that links the front and rear anti-roll bar clamp. It’s an 11mm bolt and only needs to be loosened slightly. With the engine running, the height corrector will kick in and the ride height can be reset and the bolt re-torqued. If that doesn’t work, you may have to replace the height corrector. These can be picked up for around £50 secondhand or £120 (plus VAT) new.

  • Rust-free Renault Dauphine to Star in Historics 7th March Auction 21 Feb 2015 (News)
Finally, an Auntie Rover. This one is a 75 P3 that marked the transition from the running-board Rovers of the 1930s to the cyclops P4 of the 1950s. I owned one in 1970-71. Under the ancient bodywork are postwar generation overhead inlet, side exhaust valve 1.6 fours and 2.1 sixes that also saw service in Land Rovers; hydraulic front and mechanical rear brakes; a Bowden cable freewheel; and experimental independent suspension. These cars actually handle far better than you might expect, just watch out for rust in the front wings and rear spring hangers.

Prior to its most famous victory in 1990, chassis number 388 enjoyed two highly successful seasons in 1988 and 1989. In 1988, predominantly in the hands of Davey Jones and Jan Lammers, the car achieved four podium finishes and never finished a race outside of the top seven.

  • Big Increase in Cars Being Bought On ‘Logbook Loans’ 2 Jul 2014 (News)
Unfortunately, there is nothing to stop a car owner who mortgages his car in this way from obtaining a second ‘duplicate’ V5C ‘logbook’ from the DVLA. These can sometimes be spotted if the print-run of the V5C is much later than the date of last change of keeper. But usually, there is no indication that the keeper has sold his title to the car, and the ‘logbook loan’ company can repossess the car as soon as it discovers from DVLA records of ‘change of keeper’ that it has been sold.

  • A Grand Monday: Montego Mayfair 28 Apr 2014 (News)
Okay, so it's not 30 years old itself, but finding a 1984 Austin Montego, let alone one that's for sale, these days is so difficult as you'd be better off looking for a Lamborghini for Cortina money. But as we all know, Montegos got better the later in production run, so I'll hazard a bet that this one may well be more appealing than most.  The Montego is an interesting car. I've always been pretty ambivalent about them, finding their styling 'spiky', and all a bit matronly.
