  • Mazda 3 Skyaktiv-G 2.0 2015 - Mazda 3 oil specification 21 Jul 2021 (Forum)
HI All, I have a friend changing my oil and filter for me. He is experienced but I didn't want to bother him too much beforehand.. or look like a numpty by asking dumb questions regarding suitable oil. ;) My Mazda 3 manual states 5W-30 and API SL/SM/SN or ACEA A5/B5.
  • 2000 w plate Pug 1.9D oil/water leak 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The wife has one of these and it had been dumping oil on the drive. Had a good look round the engine and could see no evidence of any oil escaping, except for an oily mess on the top of the radiator. I then took off the top of the expansion bottle and out spewed like a volcano black filth, a mixture of water and oil.
  • Rover 600 Cambelt & Oil loss 23 Feb 2004 (Forum)
How could the oil level be so low? There has been no noticable oil leaks. The engine has sounded ok. No oil warning lights have illuminated during driving. I'm miffed. Any ideas? What is the oficial interval for changing the cambelts on this model?
  • Any - Paying for things twice 17 Jan 2025 (Forum)
Having just had a service, mot and timing belt change done at a main dealer got me thinking. Aren’t I effectively paying for a number of things twice? For example the oil change would form part of the service and the timing belt change. The safety checks performed during the service would also be done as part of the mot.

  • Alfa Romeo - Issues with getting refund from garage? 18 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Then it didn't slip until a couple of weeks ago when it started doing it really badly on the way into and out of London. I took the car back to the garage and they said they would just change the clutch. I disagreed with them and said, "please investigate it before you just change the clutch". They called me a few days later to say they had found the problem - an oil leak from the rocker cover gasket dripping tiny amounts of oil onto the clutch.
  • Ford Focus MKII Ghia 1.6 (100) 2005 - Top end noise from cold? Focus Ghia II (100) 7 Jan 2014 (Forum)
All previous service history was perfect before last owner, but last owner had the car just over 2 years (14k miles driven), but never changed the oil or serviced it, just drove it. It was fully serviced just before he bought it. The car was very clean throughout, but I noticed the oil was low, so I got it changed as soon as I bought it.
  • Honda Happiness 30 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I wanted an oil and timing belt change so initially booked it in to an independent but then came across Honda Happiness. This scheme enabled me to get the timing belt changed and a service (including oil, filters, brakes adjusted, coolant changed, sticking tailgate lock sorted and about 30 other items checked) for £200 all in at a Honda main dealer.

  • Oil pressure light - Shogun 10 Jun 2010 (Forum)
It’s done 85,000 miles: I bought it 9 months ago at 82,000 with a full Mitsubishi service history, although the last dealer service was at 66,000. I changed the oil and filter when I first had it. The old oil was black but otherwise healthy. The new filter came from a Japanese parts motor factor, so is not a genuine Mitsubishi one. There is no oil pressure gauge on the car, just a warning light.
  • Jaguar XF - Rear diff noise/leaking pinion seal replaced 2018 13 Mar 2022 (Forum)
I've found a transmission/differential specialist not too far away and I was thinking they should be able change the diff oil and put a new seal on. However, if the diff is already making a noise is it already damaged to an extent that a diff oil change won't improve things? Also, I've heard that changing the diff oil and seal involves rebalancing the diff and this is a tricky job and that the diff won't be as smooth afterwards.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 2002 Ghia - High oil consumption? 11 Oct 2015 (Forum)
On the 10th August I had a oil change and filter change. Done at home by me and a friend (I trust him. He has done other work for me)   Since then I have had to top it up twice. The dip stick read almost low on both occasions.
  • Toyota Verso - service enquiry 5 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Is it normal to service my 2009 verso so often? It will costs  £350 and what I looked , beside standard oil and oil filter change  , sparks is just only full inspection of all parts. If something is needed to be replaced another extra costs , even with brake fluid .Anyway  according  service book its time (40k) for fluid changes espacially brake fluid .Mentioned by phone to service  department about clutch fluid  and differential oil found in book but they said its not needed, only level check.
  • Rover 214 - excessive exhaust emissions 26 May 2010 (Forum)
Spark plugs were dry and clean.  The gasket had slight evidence of a possible blow but no mixing of oil and water/coolant evident - the head was smooth and clean.  Everything else was good - replaced all with the new kit and new coolant. cam belt good. Air filter clean and good - changed the oil and the oil filter obviously. manifold gaskets changed too.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1998 1.8 Misfire 26 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have changed the HT leads and changed the plugs, so not sure what my next step should be. I can confirm that all plugs are sparking though. Thanks Jon ps : Hi by the way :)
  • Ford Fiesta - oil for 1.4 tdci 31 Dec 2018 (Forum)
    3) 5w30 is not available outside- i mean outside ford garages. What options i have: Mobil Delvac MX: 15w40: mineral oil, can be changed every 5k. Shell Helix HX7: 10W40. semi-synth. I don't see ambient temperature below 20 degree celcius(68F) and summers see it crossing 40C(104F). What i am wary about is i have read that this engine "must" use low SAE because thicker oil-crude buildup-turbo failure etc.
  • Peugeot 106 - Gearbox oil seal 11 Sep 2015 (Forum)
My cunning plan ;) is to smear gearbox oil round ALL surfaces of the seal. Would this be ok, or do certain parts have to be dry on installation. I don't have any grease... Do I really need some?, or will gearbox oil do?
  • "Flushing oil" BMW 325 TD 22 Apr 2004 (Forum)
as everthing works fine.. i want to bring this car back up to a loved and well maintained vehicle and want to do an oil/filter change before i drive it any distance and take it to a BMW service garage later in the year when i know everything is well and its worth spending money on. to ensure the oil (5w 30 fully synthetic) i'm going to use has a good start i'm considering a full flush 1st (drain completely fill with flushing oil only).
  • Forte ENGINE flush & Gas Treatment 14 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Hi I have heard about these forte products, i am specifically referring to FORTÉ ADVANCED FORMULA MOTOR FLUSH (oil flush) and FORTE ADVANCED FORMULA GAS TREATMENT (petrol tank cleaner). I have heard they are the very best products to use for a car and can help it very much, I am wondering if this is true? I can obtain the stuff and can use for this oil change, but I have heard a roumer but not sure if true, apprantly if the motor flush is used incorrectly then this can cause severe engine failure, apprantly the sump has to be removed to ensure it is fully clean and any clumps of oil or simiar have to be removed, i have also heard that this cleaning stuff can remain in the engine with some bad bits and can do no favours?
