2002 VW Passat 2.0L 130bhp AZM Engine (petrol), Cylinder 3 Misfire, out of ideas 4 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I had the code read, indicating a misfire on cylinder three. I have completed the following checks and run out of ideas: 1) Cleared the codes and restarted engine. 2) Replaced the spark plugs with new ones. 3) Old spark plugs were in good condition with no oil, no deposits and the electrodes in good condition. 4) Checked HT lead condition and found no corrosion, a tight fitting cap and no damage to cable. 5) Earthed the HT lead and have strong spark when engine turns over. 6) Checked the injector electrical connections with a bulb tester and all is fine. 7) Removed the fuel rail and extracted cylinder 3 injector. 8) Performed a visual inspection of injector with all looking good and no blockages at the jets. 9) Tested the injector on the bench using a 12V battery to ensure it opens and closes correctly. 10) Replaced the injector in the rail and turned the engine over to check for blockages, with all injectors operating. 11) Swapped cylinder 3 and 4 injectors (misfire still on cylinder 3, no change) 12) Inspected fuel and air connections and ensured no leaks. 13) Checked the engine oil condition with no evidence of water contamination (head gasket) Any ideas would be most welcome -

ford mondeo 2004 tdci 130 - 2004 mondeo tdci 130, fuel contamination help 21 Mar 2012 (Forum)
hello i am new to this site with a problem, i work in a back street garage and we have a mondeo which the cam shaft snapped, we sent it of to a diesel specilist to fix the car they put a new head etc on the car we got it back i notice it is filthy under the engine bay any way i jet wash it down, after the weekend the car was AA'd back not running the guy that repaired it came alone and re programed the injectors ( which were re placed with head ) and ran fine..... for 10 mins then was all lumpy etc, the diesel expert said it needs to be driven to learn, we did and still wouldnt behave, so the expert takes away, then sends it of to another company who stripped the injectors out and say it has water ingress in them and will need new injectors as well as inpection for the whole fuel system to see if there is any other water in system, and they have said that the water could have got there from me jet washing the engine as it would get in the top of the injectors??? -
Vauxhall Corsa C - Car will not start, Help please! 17 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Also the central locking no longer works. The only key I have is the none remote locking key as this was damaged a few years ago. It has run fine since then. I have changed the CPS and Cam Shaft sensor. I have drained the ECU also to try and reset this and remove any faults, with no affect. I have a spark at each plug, and appear to be getting fuel in the cylinder and if i relieve the fuel pressure at the injector rail it repressurises when next attempting to start. -
Vauxhall Corsa Life Automatic 2002 - Dash Display disappears and then the car stops 18 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I still waited for the AA to be on the safe side and was advised that this is a notorious problem with the 2001/2 corsa's and that it was likely to be a dodgy connection somewhere. I have booked that car into a vauxhall garage to have a diagnostic check run but I am concerned about the price of fixing the problem and they are not able to give me a rough estimate. My question is has anyone come accross this before? If so, what was the problem? -
Car salesmen as Sons, that is. - Some mothers do have them! 31 Jan 2012 (Forum)

Anyway all in all left a bit of a bad taste to what should have been a relaxed plsurable afternoon. PS This is the 2nd new car & second cock-up, PS Senior Managment was in charge of both negeotations, speaks slowly & clearly & minimally and notes & remembers everything. -
2004 Porsche 996 C2 - Woeful Dealer not fixing problems - Help Needed!! 29 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hello all I purchased a 996C2 from Stratstone in Aylesbury on the 26th November, after a 300 mile shakedown run on the 29th November I reported 3 problems back to the Dealer: Air Con Not Working Steering Wheel Wobble at 65 plus Appalling Headlights (Porsche Li Tronics) After finally getting the car back to the dealer the Air Con has been fixed but I am told that no problem could be found with the 'wobble' or the lights, in fact i have been told 3 times that the car passed its MOT which I agree with but, they do not test for brightness. -
Proper car or appliance - Buy Car with Heart or Head - your experiences? 15 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Its come to that time when I feel like a change of car. Nothing wrong with the current one, its not worn out - to be honest its probably only just been run in, but would like something a bit more - well exciting and involving. And heres the issue - in the past I have been more satisfied with a car which I have bought with my heart than purely looking at the car tables and choosing a car on the more mundane elements such as mpg, insurance, servicing, practicality, resale etc. -
BMW 320D 07 Plate - BMW 320D SE 2007 Auto - Turbo Failure? 28 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I limped it back home carefully, any push of the accelerator met with this loud whining noise. Background: Owned from new, driven normally, driven kindly cold, ticked over after a long run, etc. Done 45K miles, always serviced when dash suggests, first 3 years by Main s******, last one by a credible Independent. On reflection, it has been getting smokier under hard acceleration, e.g. motorway overtaking, but no warning lights have ever come on. -
Toyota Celica - Toyota Celica VVTLi Overheating Nightmare 15 Aug 2011 (Forum)
All was well until a month ago when it suddenly started overheating with no warning signs. The car has been to 2 mechanics now, the first could not fix it and the second is running out of ideas. Here is a rundown of what has been done to it so for. The car will drive for around 4 miles from cold before the temp gauge goes to max. the first mechanic suspected a blown head gasket, so done a "sniff" test on it, this showed no problems. -
Mondeo III 2.0 tdci (04) - Grumbling Noise coming from rear 1 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I took it to my garage and the wheel bearing was suspected, so I ordered a new wheel bearing (not ford) and this was fitted on Tue 26/7. At this point I expected everything to running smoothly, however the grumbling is still there at around 45mph onwards, only it is not as bad since the wheel bearing changed. The grumbling seems to have started when the loose nut was tightened still attached to the car on 20/7/11. -
Mazda RX-8 - Seat problems (painful, wearing, misdescribed) 5 Jul 2011 (Forum)
The car: I bought privately (no dealer to strong-arm) 6 months ago, it is 2 years old (one year of the original manufacturer's warranty left to run) and it has the Recaro seats standard on this UK 'face-lift' version of the RX8 ('R3' is a trim level - the US and Japan had several others but the UK only had the R3, which is the 'sports' version and the only one with these seats). -
Rover 45 2003 1.4 - Am I being ripped off 3 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Four days later engine had been returned to breakers yard where it had been purchased and they would check it. Next correspondence was that engine was running fine with they're gearbox and starter and they had requested that my mechanic remove gearbox and starter from rover to go to yard and check them I'm now told today gearbox and starter are faulty and they can repair for £385. -
vw golf mk6 gt 1.4 tsi 160 - VW warranty repair 21 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I appreciate that VW have repaired the vehicle so have fulfilled the conditions of the warranty. Can i reject the car, either via VW or the lease company or do I have to run it until it either goes wrong again, or goes back? It seems a bit unafir on the next owner that they will potentially get a timebomb. I certainly won't be buying the car after the lease ends which is what I was considering. -
Ford Focus LX 1.6 TDCI MKII (07) - injector replacement recoding 6 May 2011 (Forum)
After the garage checked it they replaced number 1 injector as it failed the leak check. I go a full service at this point aswell as it was due. Car seemed to run ok for a few days 4 days later the car developed more of a loud rattle which only happened when warm initialy but progressively got worse. White smoke developed and I Brought the car back and the mechanic said number 1 and 2 injector had gone and replaced them with siemens injector. -
BMW 3-Series E90 (2005 - ) - 08 3.0 325D oil consumption 7 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Neither I did not bother to find out the manufacturer's recommended oil. I had intended to follow HJ's running in advice and leave it untouched for a year. 1) Does the minimum oil level indicate underfilling at PDI; 2) Or, Excessive oil consumption; 3) And if 2 is true how is that usually manifested (other than at the dipstick)? -
2003 Ford Focus CL, Manual, 5D hatch - Acceleration issues 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
On driving some 80kms last week with no issues - 110kmph on the freeway - when pulling off the freeway and slowing the car down, I noticed I was getting no response when my foot was pressed down firm on the accelerator. I pulled the car over. No lights lit on the dash, did not lose power - engine still running. Brought the car back up to 'biting' point, started to go forward and the revs just fell flat, couldn't go anywhere. Called roadside assistance, who took 40mins to arrive. When they got there, there was no apparent problem. -
Nissan Micra K12 - Advice on a Nissan Micra 7 Sep 2010 (Forum)
It seems to be shuddering when idle and when driving and seemed to not respond to the accelerator, and then shoot forward. The engine management light was also on. The dealer replaced an o2 sensor and it seems to be running smoother. It still varies its revs slightly when idle, especially if air con etc is in use. I just want some general advice about whether this may be problems caused by the extremely low milage; now I worry every time I drive it as to whether it is going to break down again. -
Ford Mondeo TDCI 130 Ghia X - Mk3 Mondeo TDCI 130 Catestrophic Engine Failure 1 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I've called in a favour it's having a diagnostic check on Wednesday 1st Sept, BUT i really could do with finding out sooner - any advice or guidance would be appreciated... i've run out of patience and money! History I purchased a Mk3 Mondeo Ghia X TDCI 130 privately in February 2010 and encountered an issue with the heating, so i put it into a independant garage who told me that the water pump had failed.
