  • Need a practical car with good access for elderly passenger - any ideas? 27 Oct 2016 (Ask HJ)

  • Hyundai i20 1.2 Petrol Classic 2012 - i20 Electric Power Steering - USB Audio Fault? 25 Aug 2016 (Forum)
I now guess that plugging in a USB memory stick to replay an audio book through the car's audio system somehow triggers this difference. I guess that this somehow affects the wheel speed sensors or computer(s). I guess that this stops the power steering from switching properly from slow-speed (max. assistance) to its high-speed (min. assistance) mode, and the brakes/ABS wrongly assume that a wheel is skidding, so can pull to one side or perhaps trigger the stability control?
  • Jaguar XF - Jag XF - update from private owner after 2.5 yrs 26 May 2016 (Forum)
New pads & disks fitted all round this year - parts from motor factors were ~£180 (they are the same as the S-type it turns out) and a few hours of my time in the summer evenings. Even eleccy handbrake still worked afterwards! Upcoming costs are spark plug change (the inlet manifold has to come off to access 1 bank of cyls) and considering changing the anti-freeze as its' been in there 5 years.

  • VW Golf - Fault Claim - Dealing with the insurance company. 25 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Due to a high wall obstructing my view coming from a side road, I edged forward on to the main road get a better view - possibly 12"s or so. Sadly, a car travelling along the road collided with the very corner of my driver side bumper, which resulted in their passenger side wheel being pushed towards the wheel arch.

  • LandRover Freelander 2 - Land Rover ongoing costs 10 May 2015 (Forum)
The car was 7 years old but bought from and known by the dealer and had done 43000 miles. Having had two company Freelander 2's previously I was confident that I knew the fuel running costs and having the warranty set my mind at ease to do the deal. In March however the car needed servicing, the service flagged all brake pads needing replacement and one pair disks.

  • Honda CRV 2005 2,2 diesel - misguide of DPF -have replaced the pre-converter 1 Dec 2014 (Forum)
City driving  short distances got me the dpf light again , when I decided to replace the dpf with a new one ; I did not do it with the dealer due to high price but with an authorized workshop ; It has been removed the right part ( the DPF by the mechanics) but following my pal instructions ( he was working 7 years with Honda as car mechanic ) I told them , "this is not the dpf " - I meant the part of the exhaust that has two small pipes attached - and also " I want you to remove for me this part because that´s the DPF (??) " and , due to the fact the mechanics of that workshop do not face every day such cars (situations ) they have removed what I asked them do do ; and that was pre-converter - catalytic convertor - ...

  • LPG : which system is best? 11 Jan 2014 (Forum)
t seem to suffer from this problem so much (???). Petrol Land Rover owners will be glad to hear that the venerable LR V8 in it?s various guises is very popular with LPG converts. However an awful lot of them seem to be complaining about very poor consumption on LPG, for example mpg on petrol is 20-22, therefore with LPG you would reasonably expect 15-17 mpg, but owners are only getting 10-12 mpg on LPG which makes the conversion almost redundant.
  • re-registering, MOT & tax 10 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The car was owned from new by a leasing company, and was then bought at auction by my trade seller. The only problem(s) are... - I was given the V5C when I bought the car, but the trade seller didn't sign it. We were rushed in completing so I'm wondering if this just got forgotten. - I notice on the V5C the ownership hasn't changed from the leasing company to the trade seller.

  • big van! - reckless driving 25 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I accept that I can probably be done for reckless driving as I am aware I did change lanes a bit swiftly, I was driving behind this car that seemed to be braking for no reason ( you know the ones), police said she reported that I was tailgaiting her, but to be honest she was kind of racing me futher back up the road ( I say sort of - we weren;t speeding, just playing silly b*****s trying to get in front, stupid now looking back, its strange but somedays I don't give a damn, and others I'm zipping in and out of traffic, which is pointless really.  Apparantly the damage is very minor, just a slight dent on front wing, (the car looked like it was worth less than £500) how badly can I get done for this??

  • Honda Jazz EX - Best Choice Tyres, limited choice 30 Jan 2013 (Forum)
OK in the dry and not bad in the wet, but wont get them again On the rear are a pair of Conti PC2's - but I feel I want something better for the snow - but won't be buying to sets of tyres (IE Summer and Winter) The other option is to increase to 195/55/16 - not as bad as it sounds as the speedo reads 70mph at 67mph and this would make it closer to correct.
