  • In praise of the Rover 75 10 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I have been running our ex-sales manager's Rover 75 for the last 3 weeks. I am enjoying it a lot. It's an 1800 club with 30K on it and I thought it a bit underpowered until I nailed it in third in the interests of research.
  • If Microsoft Built Cars 24 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Mackintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, twice as fast but would only run on five per cent of the roads. The brakes would say "Are you sure?" before operating. When you turned on the heated rear screen, the indicators would only work above 50mph. You would crash twice a week, and you would have no idea what happened.
  • Vectra intermittent ECU fault light 11 Sep 2001 (Forum)
The engine no longer stalls and after an initial hesitation which is the precursor to the light appearing then appears to run quite well. Switching the ignition off and dipping the clutch and then restarting will often clear the light which may then stay off for the remainder of the journey. My question is does the airflow meter have a reputation for intermittent problems of this nature.
  • Citroen Xantia HDI fault. 7 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Have some ideas but don't want to lead you in a particular direction. ........In January 2001 I bought a new Xantia 2.0 HDI 110hp. The car when running OK is brilliant but there is a cloud on the horizon . We went to collect the car, and whilst we were being shown the ins and outs the car stopped and the engine management light came on , the car was taken back into the workshop .
  • Accidents-- Pedestrians and Cyclists 31 Aug 2001 (Forum)
If a car jumps the lights at a pedestrian crossing huge howls would go up from the pedestrians involved but how many of them jump the lights when they turn red against them and run over as cars are moving off ? Drivers are no angels but they are not always to blame for accidents.
  • VW gearboxes. 8 Aug 2001 (Forum)
They suggested that the clutch slave cylinder was faulty and took the car into the workshop. After another hour, and three test runs later they said that they could find no faults and all fluid levels were normal, but they had adjusted the linkage and it seemed to cure the fault, but if the fault re-occurred i should contact them again.
  • Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - 04 Tourer diesel at 100k miles 18 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I love the intuitive interior lights - you push the lens to turn the light on/off. Stereo - marvelous sound quality and you can run it very loud. Would miss this in a lower spec model. Could do with the traffic news memory you get in the VW radios. H&V - generally good but the not up to the standard of VW - has the habit of steaming up after 400 yards on a cold morning unless it is running on auto.

Piech's Support Winterkorn's rise to the top is in many ways thanks to two key constituencies: Volkswagen Supervisory Board Chairman Ferdinand Piech and labor leaders. Winterkorn and Piech have worked closely with one another since the 1980s, when Piech was running Audi. Today that longstanding relationship is evident at Audi's public events, where Piech is a frequent guest and Winterkorn often credits his mentor for Audi's success. Piech's support is not only critical because he runs the supervisory board but also because Porsche AG, which Piech's family controls, is Volkswagen's largest shareholder.

I remain unaware of what crime I have committed or in what way I have been negligent, except to try to run a vehicle nowadays and thus be fair game. Even once I have paid the iniquitous £102 fine because I do not want to end up in court, I remain innocent of the further repercussions that await me, given that payments from my bank by direct debit have even now not resumed.
  • Porsche Cayenne e-Hybrid - Porsche Hybrid 9 Feb 2021 (Forum)
It does sound unbelievable that fuel has entered the engine oil especially when the engine is not running most of the time.  There is nothing in the instruction manual about overriding the default e-mode, or any advice about driving in the different modes. I have now been advised to run the car on its petrol engine until the oil has reached temperature before engaging e-power.
  • Honda Civic 1.0 SR - First impressions 9 May 2019 (Forum)
Technically I am disappointed that the 1.0 is a cam belt in oil with a 65k change interval.bNo issue to the fleets but a cost for those of us who run to higher miles. The electronic parking brake is not intuitive in manual mode. You can only apply and release it with the foot brake engaged. So setting off requires you to treat the driver behind to a blast of brake light, and then manually release the button.
  • MG 6 - Honda Civic - Honda Civic vs MG 6 - better value used car? 31 Oct 2017 (Forum)
    7) Considered a good driver's car, with a fine balance of handling and ride comfort. 8) Rare / uncommon / not run of the mill car Cons:- 1) The manufacturer has stopped seeling the car in UK. Potential issue with  availability of parts.  Car is still sold in other markets.
  • Peugeot 206 lx 1.4 automatic 2001 - Diagnostics Fault? Gearbox problem? 3 Jan 2013 (Forum)
with this i went to my local garage, explained what had happened they ran a diagnostics and brought up two fault codes: P1544 STEPPER MOTOR CONTROL P0116 COOLANT TEMP SENSOR CIRCUIT but he said this would be a cheap fix. he told me to run it for a few days, come back and they would run the test again for free of charge, so I done this. When I went back to the same garage I saw a different man, I explained to him and he said that it sounded like a problem with my gearbox and if thats the case its best for me to get rid of it  he said it could possibly be gearbox oil but he highly doubts thats what is making the car over rev and jump forward like that, sounds like its had it.
  • Electric & Hybrid Cars 12 May 2012 (Forum)
Of the four cars the only one that I considered utterly pointless was the Honda CR-Z hybrid. The petrol engine runs all the time, with the electric power used to give it a bit of an extra push when necessary, so the fuel economy is nothing at all to write home about, and for a car that claimed to be a sports car, it was ugly as sin.
  • Fiat Panda 1.1 Review - "slower than a cockroach" 18 May 2010 (Forum)
Just the job, I thought.... i could do an interview on her new car while she is a captive audience. "How do you find the new Panda, now it`s run in" --- " IT`S SLOWER THAN A COCKOACH!!" Oh, dear - shouted a little and I caught that rare edge of emotion coming through ..Gulp. "Anything else, Mrs O?" --- " It only has one door lock and the drivers backrest won`t fold back" Leaving the cockroach to rest for a moment, I explored the last two comments.
  • Nissan X-Trail (2007 - ) - J D power 2009 xtrail 14 Jun 2009 (Forum)
On the old car i had a new intercooler fitted due to an oil leak, also the sump plug leaked after a service. And that's it! My son now runs the old x trail, again no problems. But i appreciate that many did have problems, so the xtrail was never in the top 5. Prior to that with my two primeras, i never saw a oil leak! Now the new x trail has a renault engine, and to be honest i would prefer nothing French, having said that the 171bhp dci i have is a peach, constantly getting over 40mpg.
  • Nissan X-Trail (2001 - 2007) - 04 2.2dci oil leak 17 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Now from having a few spots of oil on my drive and nearly £200 bill from previous garage who did not fix my problem i am getting a little bit worried now ,i asked a local mechanic for his advice and he said i should really take it to an authorised Nissan dealer & they would be able to find out the real cause but when i called the local Nissan they qouted me £110 an hour for diagnostic check & in this case it may well run into hours. Now i simply cannot afford that but niether can i afford to keep paying tin pot garages money just to tell me what the problem is not ! I am getting a little desperate now as where to turn if i have to go to Nissan then i will, i have been told many things, i could do with some advice , the vehicle runs fine allways has no smoke out the back or anything some people have even said that this oil is not a problem because its not unusual to have a little coming through the breather but surely it should not be there and is this the oil that is leaking down on my drive ,the oil level is ok .can anyone please help
  • More efficient propulsion 6 Jun 2008 (Forum)
BMW made a demonstrator a couple of years back that captured exhaust heat to add extra power, and there's no reason why we couldn't do this to generate electricity or even run the air conditioning system. This works more or less the same as a kerosene fridge and would remove significant loads from the engine e.g. a Range Rover has a 14kW (19Hp) air conditioning pump and a 100A (say 5Hp) alternator.
  • BMW 1 Series E81/E87 (2004 - ) - 120D SE : 6000 mile ownership report 20 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Styling is subjective, of course. I prefer ?different? to ?boring? so I quite like it. Others may take a different view. Running costs are reasonable with 42 mpg, relatively low depreciation, no cambelt changes and variable service intervals. And now for the not so good? The ride is awful on the standard runflat tyres.
