Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.25 Heater only hot when driving 8 Feb 2010 (Forum)
On Tuesday I noticed my heaters where only blowing cold air then half way home (driven about 5 miles) the temp gauge hit red. Had a look under the bonnet and the coolant was boiling away but not coming out. AA came out 2 hours later and car had cooled down, he followed me home and all was fine. He said the thermostat could have failed to open and get it replaced. -

Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - County Court [Small Claims] dilema. 8 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Following an abortive installation of a radiator to my 1997 Peugeot 306 D-Turbo [one owner from new] resulting in the bottom hose becoming detached from the radiator, with subsequent loss of coolant [no overheating at this point, stopped immediatly low coolant warning light appeared ] I summoned my recovery/breakdown service, whose operative securely refixed the bottom hose, but failed to bleed the system, resulting in an an 'emergency' stop a few miles down the road, with engine warning 'stop' light illuminated, and engine fan operating. -
Ford StreetKa (2003 - ) - Overheating warning and erratic fuel gauge 5 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Certainly, there are no signs as mentioned earlier. The car has done 35,000 miles, and has the original coolant in it at the right concentration and the right level in the tank. My best guess is a good old fashioned earthing fault, but with the unusual places electronics are employed in new cars, who knows? -

Hot and bothered 5 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Before any suggestions are put forward, here's what I've already tried: New thermostat, new temperature sensor (it's definitely overheating - not electrical), new radiator cap, new radiator, new coolant, new water pump, back flushed engine (no blockages) and bled system for air locks. It's not losing any coolant and there's no water in the oil, or oil in the water. Any thoughts? -
Sloshing water in passenger footwell 6 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The engine started shuddering when I was stationary e.g. waiting at traffic lights, so I took it to a garage and was told that the head gasket needed replacing urgently & that the coolant was leaking. So I shelled out hundreds of pounds for the head gasket to be fixed, picked up the car tonight, and on the way home could hear the water as much as ever. When I opened the bonnet, I could see that the coolant reservoir had drops of water on the cap and sounded as if it was hissing/bubbling & it was still quite hot about half an hour after I'd parked at home. -

Peugeot 207 1.4 - Head gasket repair under manufacturer warranty 12 Sep 2012 (Forum)
The head gasket on my 2010Peugeot 207 1.4 was repaired under manufacturer warranty. The failure caused oil to leak into the cooling system. Now there is oil in the coolant and the reservoir is black and stained. Should the cooling system have been flushed and the reservoir cleaned/changed.? Should the cambelt have been renewed? -

My car leaks engine coolant and a garage has told me the thermostat housing needs replacing. I've heard its a common problem on the focus. Cost is £163 (£105 is for the part, rest is labour and antifreeze). Seems expensive to me but this price is also quoted by other garages. -

Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.9TD - oil in cooling system 28 May 2008 (Forum)
My Xantia 1.9TD (1997) has suddenly pumped the contents of the sump into the cooling system such that black oil has erupted through the coolant filler cap (filler cap screwed fully in place)and is now dripping everywhere. Is this likely to be a cylinder head gasket blow or are there other possibilities? Philippio -

Rover 420 SLDi. I had the coolant and brake fluid replaced yesterday for £37.50. ATS carried out the work. Their staff proved friendly and helpful. Well recommended. Two weeks ago they replaced the engine oil and filter, using Helix 10/40 & a Cooper filter for £22.99.
