FIAT Panda diesel - Performance and consumption 17 Dec 2012 (Forum)
It wasn't a fluke, it was the second 106 diesel we had and the first was equally economical. The Panda seems to run ok, no warning lights stay on, it just seems a bit of a poor show that with all its computer controlled engine management, an inherently more efficient direct injection diesel is using more fuel to haul around less weight more slowly. -
KIA Ceed 2L diesel Sport 3 years old 33,000 miles - No accelerator - loss of power - engine stops 23 Sep 2012 (Forum)
The Kia dealer is 25 miles away and I really don’t want to risk driving the car that far. When it fails it slows down quickly without break lights and someone is likely to run into me. I’m unsure if it’s an engine management problem or a fuel starvation problem. -
Peugeot 405 GDR diesil estate - Fuel problems 24 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Hi thereThis car has, until now, been the most reliable that I have ever owned, however it decided to die on me, I thought that pahaps I had run out of fuel, as it was showing low before this and the orange fuel light had come on, so went and bought some more and put it in, however she still will not go, tried priming the filter,( this is bolted to the battery housing, and has a primer on top) but the primer is drawing little or no fuel through, just to make sure that it is a definate fuel starvation problem, I filled the rubber inlet pipe from the filter to the engine manually, and she fired up right away, this morning, i took off the filter unit, and it had some fuel in it, but not full, I am now at the stage where I am left with the fuel pipe sticking up, but not going to anywhere, I flattened the battery whilst trying various things, so have now taken it off and put it on charge. As a chef I am not the best mechanic, however I can turn my hands to most things, I just wanted to ask, when I re connect the battery, and turn the engine should I see fuel being pumped up through the fuel pipe...? -
Various - Replacement car advice and opinons 14 Jun 2012 (Forum)
My commute is about 25 per day, dual carriage way and city centre and my wife travels about 70 in her Note. I have learned a lot on here about modern diesels needing a good run out etc, but would happily switch cars if it made sense (regarding mpg) otherwise she'd rather stick to the Note. Finally have a 9 month old so being able to chuck a pram in the back on occasion would be nice too. -
2005 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 E (55PS) - Help with Error Codes 2 Jun 2012 (Forum)
It is sometimes hard to start the engine aswell when it is hot. Starts fine when cold. If I drive somewhere without stopping the engine, it runs fine, revs right up to the red line and does not lack power. But if I drive to the supermarket (for example), park up, then return while the engine is still warm, I get the lacking power problem. It seems to be going in to limp mode when the engine is started from warm. -
Vauxhall Vectra B Dti 16V LS (Xreg 2000) - Vectra B Dti Xreg No turbo when cold, until warm 25 May 2012 (Forum)
It shuold also be noted that the fins on the air intake side of the turbo have taken a beating, but like i say the turbo spins and works when warm. On inspection with the engine running and the air intake side pipe removed, you can clearly see the fins spinning, and slowly come to a stop after engine switch off. Thanks -

Renault Koleos - Renault Warranty Claims 13 May 2012 (Forum)
We are in dispute with Renault. My company runs a number of renaults all bought from Renault Wirral. We had a 58 plate Renault Koleos that had an engine failure at 28,971 miles. The vehicle was 6 months old when we bought the car from the main dealer. -
Mazda 3 - Engine failure at 33k miles - 2010 TS diesel 11 Apr 2012 (Forum)
The car was serviced in December 2011 (admittedly circa 5 weeks late) but at that time the Mazda garage did not flag any issues with low oil. The car was running like a dream and my husband checks oil every 2 weeks. It is always fine. 4 months later and the car suddenly starts making ticking noise which seemed to get louder when revving engine at a junction. -
Vauxhall Astra G Diesel - Knocking Astra 1.7 CDTI 11 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I have heard that the cam lobes can be turned on the cam shaft after a cambelt failure, I am starting to think that this may have had a snapped belt at some point and hit valve, then repaired and sold on with the knock. The engine runs fine just has this loud tappet knock, If the Cam Lobes have turned slightly on the shaft would this cause the knocking sound? I have examined the shafts and i am a little suspect of a couple of the lobes on the exhaust side but its very hard to measure accurately. -
Volkswagen Golf V - Security system has disabled my Golf 3 Mar 2012 (Forum)
It must have had power in the battery by that time. I can now start car easily if I jump start, and car works quite normally when engine running but will not do anything after car is switched off. Is this an alarm problem which disables car if you try and jump start it? I have tried phoning my normal garage to ask them whether it can be reprogrammed but they will not let anybody technical talk to me, all they want to do is send a car transporter and collect vehicle and take back to garage. -
A6/A4 - Audi A6 or A4 Avant 7 Feb 2012 (Forum)
We will be looking at a 56/07 plate with high milage, ex fleet car with full Audi service history and timing belt changed ect ect. Does anyone have any experience of these cars? What are they like to drive, run and live with day to day? Are the diesels a better drive? I cant stretch to the 2.7 or 3.0 models and the 2.0 A6 seems way underpowered...... I have an old golf gtdi 130 going strong for the commute to work so this isnt an issue. -
Ford focus lx 1.6 petrol 51 reg 5 door. - mgnt light has come on and flashes when speed inc. 8 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Hi. I have a ford focus 51 reg 1.6 zetec. It has about 127,000 miles on the clock and runs fine. I was on my way back from london last night and the engine management light came on just before I got to oxford services. When I stopped I noticed the engine was making a chugging sound and there was a definate loss of power. -
All - DPF regen and low EGTs 2 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Clearly this is waste of fuel since diesel burned in the exhaust does not contribute to useful work. But the more worrying problem is unburned diesel running into the sump and contaminating the oil. There is a very simple way to raise EGTs-raise the intake air temperature. Modern cars are designed with Cold Air Induction which draws in cold air from the front of the engine bay. -
C5 2.2HDI 2002 - C5 particulate filter 13 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I had the fluid changed at another garage who warned me that they could not reset the warning light. The light would always come on for a few seconds after starting the car and running for 1/2 mile . This was OK . However, not only did the Eloy light come on but the diesel filter was blocked, wipers operating, service windows lights came on etc. I brought this to the attention of the garage. -
citroen c3 2003 1.4 16v - c3 hdi starting problem 19 Nov 2011 (Forum)
i have checked the flow to the injectors and its getting to them fine, i have disconnected the fuel return pipes and had someone to turn the car over but no excess fuel is coming out of it. I noticed that the fuel pump which runs off the timing belt has some type of round metal relay, do these need to be programmed in aswell? or would a good old tow just do the trick to try and start it -
Rover 214si Manual petrol 16 valve 1997 R reg - Rover 214si cuts out after long hill descents 4 Nov 2011 (Forum)
After starting it again It then settled down and it ran fine the rest of the way home, it has since done in this on 5 other separate occasions, all at the bottom of longish hills. The car runs *perfectly* the rest of the time, it's a 16 mile journey to work, it's fine on the way there, but on the hill on the way back it does it at the bottom of this particular dual carriageway 50mpg limit hill without fail usually So far fitted new throttle body, new plugs and leads and a coil pack .Thanks -
Buying a first car - diabetic/insurance 31 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I was taught to drive in a 2000's Vauxhall Corsa, and then my instructor changed to a new Peugeot 207. I need something cheap to service, and cheap to run and insure. The initial purchase price of the car isn't that important as long as I get the right car. Does anybody have any ideas? -
Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 97 3.3 Intermitent cut out 24 Oct 2011 (Forum)
When it cuts out i lock the doors and wait for the LED to flash slowly I then unlock seems to disarm but will not start. After 10 min to 30 min of continually locking & unlocking it will start & run fine. I did think it was something to do with the vehicle cooling to allow start?? I also have the aircon light & the button next to it flashing continuously, I have followed instruction given on the forum but cannot get these to stop flashing. -
any - Obtaining service history 1 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I've rung BMW UK and they state that it's never been to one of their dealerships which at first I was worried about but apparently it's all services by the lease company in house. I don't know where to turn now and seem to be running out of options. My only card in my favour (I think) is that I still have the log book for my part ex, so I don't think it's able to be sold, at least not for full whack? To be fair the dealership I bought it off have been good in chasing the previous owner but crucially haven't managed to get the service history.
