  • Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.9TD - oil in cooling system 28 May 2008 (Forum)
My Xantia 1.9TD (1997) has suddenly pumped the contents of the sump into the cooling system such that black oil has erupted through the coolant filler cap (filler cap screwed fully in place)and is now dripping everywhere. Is this likely to be a cylinder head gasket blow or are there other possibilities? Philippio
  • Servicing. Rover 420 SLDi 27 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Rover 420 SLDi. I had the coolant and brake fluid replaced yesterday for £37.50. ATS carried out the work. Their staff proved friendly and helpful. Well recommended. Two weeks ago they replaced the engine oil and filter, using Helix 10/40 & a Cooper filter for £22.99.
  • mayo in the oil filler 10 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Hi, I just had a coolant leak fixed and an oil gasket replaced. The next day I saw some (not a lot) emulsion on the dipstick and can see more in the oil filler tube (on an MGF). Could this be caused by the engine being opened up to replace the gasket, letting moisture in, along with several days of stop/starting the engine with no distance covered?
  • Fixing a pipe with a weld 4 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Hi, My MGF has been in the garage (an MG Rover dealership) for over two weeks, waiting for new metal coolant pipes to be delivered. Apparently Rover are having probs with their parts dept. and things can take ages to be delivered. The garage are saying they can fix the leaking pipe welds by rebraising the join.
  • Thermostat fluctuation 25 Mar 2001 (Forum)
My 91H 205 D turbo has just had a third cambelt and a coolant change. I thought I noticed temp. fluctuations before, but it is now obvious that during a long run, once the thermostat opens (after 5-6 miles) the temp. continues to cycle up and down approx. every 40-50 seconds.
  • Toyota Starlet - Coolant temperature sensor and temperature gauge 31 Mar 2022 (Forum)
I finally got around to getting a warning code from it, and it came back with 22, indicating an issue with the coolant temperature sensor. I researched the correct part to buy, and decided that Cambiare VE375145 would do the job, so bought one from ebay for about £15.
  • Ford Mondeo estate 2010 - Ford 1.8 tdci mondeo overheating 14 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Dealer mentioned about an overheating issue which they had 'fixed' by changing the thermostat.  So last summer it overheated on the M25 (almost no coolant) - I should have taken it straight back to the dealer (another bad move) but took it to my local garage instead.  They changed the fan which wasn't working.  Overheated again about a week later - this time found the coolant leaking out the thermostat housing.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 overheating problem? 1 Jan 2014 (Forum)
There are seemingly many causes of overheating and so far I've been lead towards the following : faulty CHT sensor, faulty thermostat and the blue Ford coolant which has never been renewed, so could do with being replaced. The fact that the temperature gauge can go into the red and then (once you ease of) back again so quickly leads me to suspect a faulty CHT sensor.
  • SEAT Altea (2004 - ) - 55000 mile report 22 Oct 2009 (Forum)
this required 13 dealer visits over 6 months before they found a fix. Front wheel bearing failure Remote locking failed Water pump leak Coolant leak from plastic coolant port Boot lock failed Coil pack failure Exhaust gas recirculation valve failure Catalyst broke up - this was a £700 fix Further coolant leak, source unknown. A common response when discussing the issues with the Altea was ?
  • 1.4 cvh 55kw 1998 - Ford escort overcooling 12 Jan 2025 (Forum)
I have read about the cvh thermostat housing and it has some kind of plastic ball inside that melts when engine overheats which i think is my problem because last year my engine overheated because of faulty fan when it overheated i replaced the coolant tempeature sensor and the thermostat thinking it would help but it didnt since then i have no heat :( . Now that i know the ball inside is melted i know that coolant is bypassing the thermostat going straight into the radiator.

  • Nissan Pathfinder - Nissan Pathfinder Head Gasket Gone Again... 16 Jun 2018 (Forum)
I did note that the area around the expansion tank was damp (the weather on the day was bright sunshine and high temperatures) and there was a pool of coolant below the expansion tank. I pulled over and called the green flag man to get me home. The vehicle starts fine and sounds normal. The only thing I noted was that having topped up the radiator with some water, after 10 minutes of running at 1500rpm and with the temps Normal, the expansion tank was almost full, on inspecting, there was at least some of the original fluid in there (the coolant was bright orange).
