• Ford focus 55 plate - Error code p0240 on focus 4 Jul 2021 (Forum)
   So the engine light came on, I've run a diagnostics check and it came up  Fault 01 pending 01, error code p0420.  I've done some research and seen its Likely the catalytic converter needing replacing but wondered if anyone had any Advice or experience with the same thing.

  Compression test showed the following: 175 175 120 160 - the van does have a small coolant leak so maybe has a cracked cylinder head. The head gasket has recently been replaced but didn't solve the leak and was running ok until a few weeks ago. I have replaced ECU, EGR valve, and crank & cam sensors. I also have fuel in tank!! My question is should an engine start with the above compression readings?

  Am worried about engine size for the size of the car, the golf has 12 more ps than it. Will mostly be used tooting round town with the odd Holiday motorway run. Does anyone have any experience with this engine Or if anyone wants to recommend an alternative feel free. Partner is not keen on having a “big car” Thanks

  Engine sounds fine ticking over, has had a new camshaft kit so looks like its the bottom end bearings knocking What I want to know is can these bearings in the bottom end be changed without having to do any further work like regrind the crank etc Or does that really depend how badly chewed up the crankshaft is? It is only a cheap run about that I was hoping to use as a second car for travelling a few mile to and from work

  Looking for a small hatchback (not a city car preferably) My requirements for a car: reliable, cheap to run & maintain, up to 3 yrs old, A/C, cruise control, touch screen, Bluetooth, 5 doors, 0-60mph in under 11s, look good. Extras I would like are heated seats, android auto, start/stop & parking sensors/camera my budget is £6k (target) but I can stretch to £6.5k my annual mileage will probably be low - around 4-5000 Some motorway trips and lots of driving around town.
• Ford Fiesta - Radiator fan not working 20 Jul 2019 (Forum)
  Possibly one for elekie. The fan isn't coming on on my son's 2009 Fiesta with climate. It's not running either with the climate on or when the engine gets hot. I've only checked the fuse is ok and the fan is free to turn.  It's been suggested that the first check should be the temperature sensor.

  Skywing is running out of time to pass inspection and may be approaching the end of the line. Thinking of getting a Toyota Zace as a replacement. Snag (apart from fuel consumption, which will be high, but I don't drive much) will be getting maintenance information on them.
• Daihatsu Charade - 1999 Charade - help identifying pipe 13 Aug 2018 (Forum)
  There is a thin black pipe which comes from a grey, cannister type component low down at the rear, right hand side of the engine compartment. This pipe runs up the air filter housing then just ends. Is it supposed to be connected or is it just a breather? I only ask because the tickover seems quite high - 1500-1700 rpm at first & dropping to 900-950 when warmed up (about 8-10 mins) and there may be a connection.

  I'd be very grateful for some advice please. I'm fitting an amp and new speakers to my Zafira and was wanting to run cables from the amp and tie in behind the head unit at the point just before the two ISO connectors (which then plug into the secondary loom (which I'm not using), with the large black plug for the CD30 MP3).

  So What is the best way to finance a car? If by finance which makes are offering the best deals? He has been running a 04 plate Clio diesel, is there a scrappage opportunity? He's thinking new or nearly new, I'm thinking 3 year old. (i know some will say it's his money but.... general supporting arguments to give best advice wanted.

  Had coil pack done and Sparks was fine for 3 months now same issue.   BUT it' not all the time. It runs fine until I get to a bump road and after that my engine managemet light flashes and lose of power. Go still goes.  But when I use it again it's fine.  It' seem only when I hit a bump road.
• renault megane 1.9 dci - Lights dimming whilst driving 30 May 2017 (Forum)
      But recently i have noticed how terrible my lights are when they are on dipped and have on some occassions watched them go down, like when a battery runs out on a torch.    The car still holds a charge okay and starts as well as can be expeccted for an old dci,    Anyone have any ideas at all?    Many thanks

  Hi my friend has got a 2006. Ford focus cmax tdci automatic and has a problem when running  starts up OK and when you pull way the revs go up and it will eventually change up but if you put foot down the revs shoot up but does not go any where,went into garage they changed boost control valve as they said it was not boosting she picked car up and it was OK now she is saying it is doing it again has anyone got any ideas , if you put it into tiptronic it is still doing it
• BMW 1 Series - Poor body repair 28 Apr 2016 (Forum)
  At the weekend I noticed the nearside front door has had an extensive repair, not only that but the repair has been very badly done - The line of the repair is not straight, there is rippling where the filler is uneven, there are sanding and scoring marks and places where it's been badly rubbed down and finished and there is a paint run. I bought it from a dealer and want to know if they have to accept any responsibility for selling a car with such a bad repair and if I have any rights to help with the cost of sorting it out (quoted £560 +vat by local body shop).??
• Honda CR-V - NEW ALTERNATOR 6 Apr 2016 (Forum)
    The new alternator was fine but now the battery light is flashing on for a few seconds.  That has happened several times during local trips.  I have run with all electrical items on but still only intermittant and short period when the light comes on.  I need to do a 400 mile trip and worried about reliability.  The battery indicates fully charged but has never been replaced by myself.
• Pushrod design 15 Mar 2016 (Forum)
  Old pushrod ohv designs were supposedly superseded in the 70's because of the  introduction of high rpm short stroke designs. As newer turbocharged engines are designed to run at significantly lower rpm than those 1970s pioneers, I wonder if pushrod ohv could make a comeback. The main advantage being the camshaft could be simply gear driven from the crank and truly maintenance free.
• Peugeot 307 - diagnostic code 11 Feb 2016 (Forum)
  The only thing that indicates any fault is sometimes I randomly get a message on the screen saying ' Faulty Anti-pollution', but the car still runs smoothly.    Please can anyone enlighten me as to what these codes lead too.    Thanks for any help in advance.

  Also were they all jap cars and then been imported over the years or were they sold here as well? Seriously considering buying one to run for a couple of years and then go for a TF when the prices are a little bit lower.
