• Fiesta watery oil 1 Apr 2002 (Forum)
  She does about 4 miles a day in the car to go to work, 2 miles there and two miles back. I know there is significant risk in this, and longer journeys would cause any water in the oil to be evaporated. But can this really be the sole cause of the problem, or is there something else I should be looking at/changing? Would the problem be any different on a different car? Or, to put it another way, is this engine particularly susceptible to this problem?

  hi, Got a strange problem with changing gear, it feels fine with the engine running when the car is not moving (change is notchy and changes easily) but with the car moving 2nd and 4th gear (nearest to the back) feel strange, the notchyness is gone and just feels wierd, althougth there is no cruching of gears.

  Since then I've noticed the MPG reading is not reaching as high as it was before. Is there anything that could have affected this? It was a full service with oil change and also two new tyres. Thinking tyres might need wearing in or a wrong type of oil was used?

  The head gasket on my 2010Peugeot 207 1.4 was repaired under manufacturer warranty. The failure caused oil to leak into the cooling system. Now there is oil in the coolant and the reservoir is black and stained. Should the cooling system have been flushed and the reservoir cleaned/changed.? Should the cambelt have been renewed?

  Hi guys , looking for some help there are terrible fumes in the cabin they are like crankcase fumes checked the exhaust it was ok no leaks, no oil leaks,air filter was clean would changing the oil and filter be of any benefit there are no loose or punctured breather pipes the car runs as sweet as a nut i would be obliged for any help

  Just got myself a Fiesta Frascati 1.3 on a 95 M plate... Was tapping fairly loud when i got it, and ive now done an oil change and engine flush.  Tapping is still there, when i took the oil out.. there was only 1 litre in there... Is this a case of damage done??  Or is there something i can do to stop and fix this tapping??

  about 3 months ago i a brought engine flush and had the oil changed, since then the car does not seem to have the umph it had before, i noticed that the oil level on the dipstick is half way between the minimum and maximum points, any ideas why?

• ATF and Mayonnaise 13 Feb 2003 (Forum)
  HJ refers to checking ATF level on his section on checking a used car out. ATF? Also he refers to mayonnaise under the oil filler cap. Now I'm pretty sure I could spot this but if I was a dodgy dealer, I'd probably change the oil when I was putting on the forecourt, so is there any other way of spotting gasket probs especially if the engine's been steam cleaned?

  I have a 2008 1.4 petrol roomster. The tappets make a very loud noise on tickover and when changing gear. They are quiter at speed. Any suggestions as to what it can be? I have had the oil changed without any benefit.

  In my Ford Focus (UK) petrol owner's guide it says that 5w30 engine oil should be used at all times for optimum performance. However, further down the page below where it says engine oil top-up it says that 5w30, 10w40 or 5w40 oil can be used albeit with reduced fuel economy, performance etc.

  My Mk6 Golf is set to longlife services, but being a bit 'old school' i just cannot agree with 18,000 miles or well over a year between oli changes. So at about 9-10 k miles from a service, out comes the trusty Pela extractor, and the oil is swapped. Thing is the oil going in was mostly Carlube triple R, but I also added the remainder of a can of Comma prolife & a little bit of Castrol SLX that was leftover.

  The wife's 306 1.9d is poorly, spewing oil and water out of the expansion bottle. My first thoughts were that the head and or gasket was pooped, or even the block cracked, but we had the oil cooler changed and it was fine for a week or so but is now back to spewing oil and water everywhere.

  , Happy new year... Just want to check something out with you chaps, took my car (mondeo) for an oil change at ATS yesterday as kwik-fit were to busy (cant afford a full service just yet! xmas has hammered me!!) :) to be fair I was really impressed with the service ATS offered i'll be going back for sure.

  For interest, it does about 40mpg, more on a run, and fuel consumption got worse when the egr valve was changed. I've done an additional oil change between annual services, as it does a lot of short runs. Handling was improved when I had 235/60-16 fitted all round, as was noise in the cabin and grip particularly in the wet-recommended.
