  • Primera won't start (Fuel system fault) 31 May 2005 (Forum)
The Fuse & relay test ok, and spraying some of that Quick start spray through the air filter inlet seems to make a difference. The obvious problem could be the Fuel pump, but does anyone have any other ideas of what it could be. Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  • Fuel gauges 10 Apr 2005 (Forum)
How exactly do modern fuel gauges work? Presumably the simple system (do manufacturers still use it?) involves a float. I've read that Indy/F1 cars use something that measures the rate of flow from the tank and can therefore deduce how much remains.
  • High Fuel consumption. Renault Laguna 11 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I have a Renault Laguna 2.0L 16v 98 volvo lump NQ7 or N7Q, I have had the exhaust replaced after the cat secton, as it was blowing a little. The fuel consumption has gone out the roof, this was the case before the replacement exhaust. its doing something like low 20's. which is alarming. Does anyone know if its likely to be a sensor of sorts, or anyone had the same problem.
  • Honda CD250U Fuel Tank 13 May 2004 (Forum)
The fuel tank on my Honda CD25U sprang a leak last week. An AA temporary repair with liquid metal enabled me to get it home. Ideally I would like to find a second hand replacement as a new one is just under £250 and the bike has a few more miles left in it.
  • Fiesta Leaking Petrol. 12 Mar 2004 (Forum)
We have a '97 R-plate Ford Fiesta 1.3 Encore, when the tank is near full & parked on a slope it will leak petrol from the fuel cap nozzle. Despite this being checked by a local garage who could find not fault (the fuel cap has been replaced.) Problem still occurs - again only when the car is parked on a slope & the fuel tank is near full.
  • petrol prices inevitable 21 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Recieved e-mail today trying to stop the inevitable fuel price increases, it suggested boycotting one major fuel supplier ie ESSO. suggested this was a shure winner if we all did it forcing said supplier to maintain / cut fuel prices over all over suppliers and therefore force all to keep prices down.
  • Petrol consumption 27 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I have been back in the UK for 4 weeks and I am using an Alfa 166 2.0 twin spark throughout mainland europe it has been doing 32 mpg according to the computer ,the same driving on Uk fuel i have dropped to 23mpg .I thought there must be a problem with the car but everythink checks out ok.I have tried all different fuels with the same result .It confirms to me what I always thought that UK fuel is substandard.
  • RPM for Max Fuel Economy 13 Jun 2002 (Forum)
A few days ago somebody posted a question concerning what was the best rpm for Max fuel consumption? I replied that, so far as I was aware, it was the rpm at which max torque is developed and added that this might be hard to find out. I have since found that the torque figure and the rpm at which it occurs is printed the New Cars Tech Spec section of Wh*t Car each month.
  • Aircon and fuel consumption 27 Aug 2001 (Forum)
There have been a few posts recently about the affect of airon on fuel consumption. I've recently been running with the aircon permanently on, and the following are the results of brim-to-brim tests under the same driving condiditons (approximately 1200 miles in each test, 2 fills).
  • Diesel Fuel Prices 27 Jan 2001 (Forum)

  • Ford Fusion (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.4 tdci stopped after fuel fill. 16 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Anyway the car was mot'd yesterday I got in it today after handing over the money drove about 50 yards to a filling station (the fuel gauge was on the bottom bar), put a tenner in got back in and nothing, so the car was pushed into a workshop, The immobilizer light remained on, so the dealer rang a ford contact who said becuase it was low on fuel there might be an air pocket in the fuel pipe so for about 20 mins 4 of us tried to get the car going pumping the black fuel valve Any ideas please, I left the car with the dealer (minus the paperwork he'd given me of course) to sort out, is this a regular occurence on fusions.
  • Mondeo Diesel run dry 17 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I deduced the problem was probably the incline and told him to go on the main road on the flat where we tried to start it again we had one spark of life from the engine then nothing. We noticed some disel leaking from the 2nd cylinder plug (probably from the fuel line which feeds to this plug, none of the others were leaking the fuel line leading to/from this plug was also saturated with fuel - but none of the other fuel lines between plugs were wet with fuel.
  • Honda Africa Twin crf1000 - Honda Africa Twin im rejecting 4 Apr 2023 (Forum)
It was upon their recommendation that the fuel pump, fuel tank and injectors were to be replaced.    We were contacted once again in September 2019 to advise that the issue had reoccured. We reported this incident to Honda Motor Europe and they advised the fuel pump, fuel lining, and injectors were to be replaced.
  • BMW 523i E39 - What stopped my car?! 5 Feb 2024 (Forum)
On Saturday, my 2000 year 523i suddenly died on the motorway. It was like it had run out of fuel. AA diagnosed fuel pump as no fuel at rail and it was recovered back. New pump arrived today and fitted. Car wouldn't start, seemed to be no power at pump. removed the relay in the boot and tried jumping + to gnd but no pump running.
  • Economy question 16 Sep 2022 (Forum)
I think like most people that if you put your foot down you use more fuel BUT If I travelled say 70 miles on a motorway in 1 hour at 70 mph would I actually use more fuel than if I travelled 70 miles in 2 hours at 35mph? I would by cruising in top gear at 70 and assume the fuel ratio would always be optimized by oxygen sensors unlike carbs of yester year.
  • Nissan Micra - Fuel Tank Capacity 1 Oct 2021 (Forum)
i am due to have my car go in for a service/m.o.t. tomorrow and i have been advised that the car that Nissan will give me is a Micra. they have told me that it will have a quarter tank of fuel and that i will need to re-fill before i return it. I understand this. i have tried to explain that this may be an issue in the current situation. my question is this how far can i expect to travel with a quarter tank of fuel in a Micra and not run out, using average speed, tyres and wet weather conditions. i need to be able to travel 55miles at least to get from point A to Point B and then back to point A.
  • 2005 Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec petrol - 2005 Ford Fiesta: stuck fuel filler cap 9 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Does anyone have any experience of this or suggestions? Is there an alternative release for the fuel cap anywhere? Is it just a case of spraying some WD40 inside and hoping for the best or is there a definitive fix?   Cheers
  • Fuel Pre-Payment 14 May 2018 (Forum)
Bit like hire car and hotel pre-payments So what if you want to pay by cash ? Reminds me of visiits to States when you had to pay for fuel before delivery which made it difficult to 'fill it up' ! Do they still do that ? I plea for the return of petrol pump attendants  I loved this bit: "Mastercard said the move was designed to prevent drivers from filling up with more fuel than they could afford" I thought thats what credit cards were for - credit !.
