Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - Car from trader- timing belt broken. 2 Jul 2009 (Forum)
On 8/06/2009, I bought a 1999 Vauxhall Astra from a trader for £850. I purchased this car as a surprise gift for my wife?s 30th birthday. I kept the car at my work address until the 25th of June, just before my wife?s birthday. The only driving that was done during this period was from the garage to my place of work (10 miles). -

VED correspondence with Tory MP 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
And incidentally requiring that production energy to be spent again on a new car. 3) The car gets sold on. The owner takes a massive hit in the car value thanks to Mr. Darling, but it?s still on the road, it?s still doing exactly what it was before When the VED rates were changed previously in 2006 they were only applied to cars produced from that point on. Changing that strategy now will mean leaving a lot of people who had budgeted sensibly massively out of pocket, and is morally very dubious in my opinion. -
Cheques & Drafts 29 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Although cheque use has fallen over the last few years, cheques remain important for certain customers in certain situations. Whether it?s a small business or someone selling a car, there are many occasions where cheques still get handed over. These changes will really benefit anyone paying in a cheque, offering them certainty and clarity on when the money has cleared and giving real peace of mind.? -
An Open Letter To Car Drivers 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
skilled? or a Trade. That we do it because we are thick and can do nothing else, that?s the reason we chose to get in your way and delay your journey by a couple of seconds. If this is the case, WHY do you then see me in a queue of slow moving traffic and trust me completely to jam on my brakes and stop as you slot into the queue, braking hard on my front bumper? -
Ford - faulty diesel injectors, hesitation on accelerating 18 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Having purchased a new DTCi Estate in May 2006 I was initially pleased with the car?s performance. However, by mid-Nov?06, the car developed annoying hesitation issues during cold-engine acceleration. It became very lumpy and difficult to start, often emitting copious grey/white smoke on turnover. -
third letter 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I parked my car in a designated pay and display bay and put the correct amount of money in the meter. Your letter of 28 September states that ?it is the driver?s responsibility to always check the conditions of use for any bay, in which they intend to park, to ensure that they have parked in accordance with the regulations?. I had checked the conditions of use and I did park in accordance with the regulations. -
Diesel Gods, This one is for you 22 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I mean the pump is mechanical and there is no ignition obviously. So the only way to drop this engine?s revs is to cut the diesel supply, however in this engine this is done via a solenoid on the injection pump which either fully cuts off the supply or leaves it fully on. So I cannot figure out for the life of me, how can the engine revs drop via some electric signal. 2) This also happens when you are driving. -
Don't try this at home. 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I know I check the oil for my other car religiously but for one week on my daily driver didn't and this happens. s**s law? Absolutely. Glad I bought the cheap RAC cover with my car insurance, too right. God knows what's wrong with it, I really hope it's a slight split in the gasket but with that much smoke I know only too well it could be something a lot more expensive. -

Alfa Romeo - Avoiding a category or a write off? 23 Oct 2024 (Forum)
The second part is that even I somehow manage to avoid the write off, im being told I will get a Category S or N, which will also reduce the cars value and potentially increase insurance costs. My questions is is there any way to to avoid my car being written off and/or being given a category. Im pretty sure I can pursuade the insurance company the car is not a write off as the cost of repairs and parts is quite low, but I really want to avoid a category altogether. -
Peugeot 508 SW - Should I change Tyres? 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Hello, I have a Peugeot 508SW Hybrid which I purchased not too long ago (couple of months) It appears in that time my front offside tyre has developed a slow puncture (will lose about 10PSI over 3 weeks) and it is just around 3mm of tread depth so I am considering replacing rather than repairing - They are also summer tyres and I would prefer All Seasons. Currently fitted are Continental EcoContact 6's all round Fronts both around 3mm, rears around 4mm. I'm just looking for a bit of advice, as if I go for replacing then I will replace all 4 at the same time as will be switching to all seasons, or whether it'd be worth getting the tyre repaired and keep it going for a bit longer. -
Fiat 500 - Who is liable for problems after a battery change? 27 Aug 2024 (Forum)
At the beginning of July I had the battery changed on my Fiat 500 (with Halfords Autocentre). Since then my bluetooth, phone connection(s) and start/stop have all stopped working and my mileage won't stop flashing. On Google's recommendation I disconnected the battery, left for 10/20 mins, and reconnected. Nothing! So, I took it back to the autocentre that changed the battery - they were stumped as to what the issue was and advised that perhaps it was a different issue that coincidentally occurred at the same time I had the battery changed. -

Honda Civic 2017 - My rights? - Engine failure 15 Jan 2024 (Forum)
No warranty Reading the consumer rights act 2015 it seems I could have some recourse with the Car S and expect that they repair it as its within 6 months of buying it. It appears its not a wear and tear type issue for a timing chain to break at 45k. Since I started writing this the Car Supermarket got back to me and advised me to contact Honda main dealer and see if there is any 'good will' on behalf of manufacturer.
