  • Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - 94 1.7td non starter 12 Feb 2008 (Forum)
hi,i have recently aquired the cv off a friend.i put jump leads to it with a new battery too, still wont start.so i towed iyt and she fired up and purred like a kitten.shes been stood for a year. the only thing ive noticed now is that i have to put a jump lead to the engine just to get it to slighlty turn over. when i do this she turns as if the battery was dying, just a couple of turns then nothing. i left a small lead attached and it melted it straight away. when i was connecting the earth to the engine i could hear a relay somewhere clicking?????
  • VW Golf MK3 no spark at HT leads 6 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Ladies and Gents, My 1995 Golf 1.8GL, decided to cut out the other day when I was driving through a set of roadworks and I had to get a tow to a local garage. Whilst I was waiting for the tow truck, I took off one of the HT leads and held it close to the engine to see if I had a spark whilst my wife tried the ignition. There was no spark. I took off the distributor cap and it looked okay inside. Am I right in saying that I am looking at one of the following being at fault : 1) Distributor 2) Coil 3) Crankshaft Position sensor ?
  • Misfire on 93 polo 1 litre 1 Nov 2006 (Forum)
the car now a fault of appearing to run on three cylinders, espicially when depressing the accelerator. On closer inspection found that when I removed the 2nd spark plug lead (2nd from distributor end of the engine) there was no effect on the overall running. Removing any other lead caused the car to splutter a lot more. I checked the spark from the plug of this second lead and it appears ok.

  • Honda Accord 1.8 - Honda Accord Cutting out 17 Mar 2012 (Forum)
I expect that this can be solved my replaceing the HT leads. Pretty simple. However while going round a sharp RHT the engine died, no error lights, and started up easily straight away. It has since done this 2 more times. Could these be related (havent changed HT leads yet) or am i looking at something like fuel pump/filter or a loose connection?

  • A Big Hurrah for the Backroom 3 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Top of the list was tracking on the plugs of cylinders 3 and 4. Lo, what do i find when i look at them, nasty black marks, iffy looking HT leads. Anyway, new plugs and a set of leads and problem appears to be solved. But.......If this is a common problem, what is the cause behind it? It may be straightforward to fix, but the idea of throwing plugs and leads at the car on a regular basis is unappealing.
  • All - Green number plates 24 Oct 2019 (Forum)
It is reported today that the powers to be are considering Green number plates for electric vehicles. This in turn may lead to such vehicles having favourable conditions on the road such as driving in bus lanes and lower parking charges. Such a policy if proceeded with will discriminate the vast majority who drive conventional vehicles and could possibly lead to even more road rage.
