• 306 HDi - squeaky wheel bearing? 8 Jun 2004 (Forum)
  With the hot weather and the windows down (air con not working at the moment!) I've noticed a squeaking from what I think is a wheel, perhaps a front one on my '99, 87k 306 HDi. This appears to stop after a certain speed (perhaps 40mph?) and also lessens when the car has been running for a while??

  I'm looking for a used car under £7k to take me, the missus, bikes and junk up and down motorways at the weekend. It needs to be cheap to run, comfy on motorways, have ABS, Air Con and 5 doors. I've seen quite a few 306 2.0 Meridian's with about 35k - 45k on them at a Car Supermarket. Can anyone let me know if these diesel's are a bad/good buy? Or, the 1.8 petrols? Any experience / advice appreictaed.

  I am setting up a delivery service for petfood in very busy streets in a busy town where parking is difficult and need to buy a newish used vehicle to suit this, and for personal use at the same time without being a van. Must have 5 doors and air con, It must be easy to park shortish in length - ideally diesel and my budget is #6,000 for a used vehicle. Any ideas anyone? Oh and it must be a totally reliable make!

  Spotted a nice example - 99V C180 Elegance 5 spd tip auto with low miles. Imagine my surprise when making further enquiries to discover it had no air con. I'm amazed they were turning these cars out at 25k new in 1999 without a/c. Worse still, they want 12k for one now! Apparently a/c was always an option on the old shape C180

• Renault Grand Scenic - Dangerous fault 2 days after signing waiver 10 Dec 2018 (Forum)
  I bought a Grand Scenic on Wednesday 28th November and paid using my credit card. On the test drive the air con made a whistling noise and there was some vibration when I hit about 75 mph. Apart from these issues the car seemed to be ok for its age and mileage, the MOT history and extensive collection of receipts and regular servicing gave me confidence that I was buying a decent honest car.

  just after a bit of quick help. car: '97 ford fiesta problem: with heater set to cool, the air the that comes from the vents is far warmer than it would normally be (very close to outside air temp), but full heat can still be obtained if needed. when set to the cold position the air is cooler when doing a steady 50, than when working the engine harder whilst "making progress" along a motorway.

  However, when running the heating there is a lot of cigarette smell coming through.  This is without running the air con. Is there anything I can do to get rid of this? Would a change of the cabin filter help? The car was supposedly serviced by the deadlier pre-sale, but don't know how much i can trust that.

  I have a 2000 model Citreon Xantia 2.0HDI (90bhp with air con) and the red stop light flashes intermittenly with the red light on the temp gauge,  I have changed the two fan motors in front of the rad twice and the lights stopped for a short while but now back again, I also noticed recently that when the cab heater/cooler fan is off the lights dont flash, any ideas please.

  I want to change the coolant on our 1.5dci with air con. Usually this job is straightforward - remove bottom hose , empty , fill and bleed but I can't find an easy way to get at the bottom hose to let the coolant out. Any one had experience of this vehicle?

  Don't see many of them about on the streets, but Autotrader (along with Daewoo Matiz and Ford Ka's) has hundreds of them... For example 2007 (07) Proton Savvy 1.2 Street (rear parking sensors, air con etc) 1,168 miles on the clock = £4999 Sounds a great price for a car with less than 1200 miles on the clock....

  i have a 99 diesal sharan with air con. I have just replaced the reciever drier and gassed the system but the compresor wont kick in when i press the switch in the car. The fans come on but thats it. I have tested the compresor by putting live to it when the engine is running and the system works and cools.

  Daihatsu Charade 1.3 LXi 99 on V reg, 70k. Its the base model so no elec windows etc but it does have air con which was optional, so its a strange spec anyway. Its at a Daihatsu dealer up for £1990 Sounds like really strong money to me? Problem is, it doesnt appear in any price guides that I can see, possibly because sales were tiny by that point as it was on its way out, but it makes it hard to judge.

  When I took the switch apart to see the problem I was presented with a circuit board (the car is 02 with air con). If I remove the circuit board from the car it runs cold in the cabin. Having replaced it back in the car it is now running cold all the time ? I have not replaced the fuse at this point. Any ideas?

  Finally got a pay-out from my insurers, and have found a nice 99 T-plate 1.6 GLXi, with Alloys & Air-Con, for £2.1K, which seems good for a 53K car. Engine same as my Beetle 1.6, the 100bhp one, so I know what to look for there - anything else go wrong on these as a whole I should look for ? Already noted slight leak in boot, which my local Skoda dealer says is a £100 rear-light fault to fix ....

  Mercedes CLK 230 Kompressor Avantgarde 2000 V Manual,66k,FSH (MB apart from last one), electric seats, windows MB radio/tape CD multichanger, multiple airbags. Taxed and tested for about 5 months more. Multi function steering wheel, air con. Only thing it hasnt got is leather. Obviously its only worth what someone will pay for it, but the prices in the Autotrader seem to vary wildy...... Advice gratefully received....

  I have a chance of a Rover 618 1999 with full leather interior ,Air con, FSH. Mint condition but with 107,000 miles on the clock priced around £1800 (buying from my company) Do these cars stand up to high milage? Im really tempted but the milage is doing my head in!!!

  Further to my previous thread http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=4&t=14891 The clowns who fitted my engine did not put the air con unit back on properly and consequently one of the bolts has snapped off leaving the whole full of half a bolt. I have been advised the engine will need to come out and it will have to be dirlled out.
