  • Toyota Hilux Vs Jaguar XK - Parked car accident. 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
But, what should I do to cover myself from potential fraud (I've not seen the bump and took no photo's).  I'm happy to run this through my insurance, does he just need my details? Unbiased advice would be really appreciated!

  • Alfa Romeo 147 - alfa 147 vs skoda yeti 8 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I have owned since new an Alfa 147 2.0 petrol which now has only 64k miles on the clock and am thinking of changing possibly for a Skoda Yeti 4x4 (petrol?). This would improve my chances I hope of getting to work - I run a pharmacy on Dartmoor and must be able to offer a service irrespective of the weather . Over the last few winters a set of snowchains has enabled me to get up the road to work on the bad days - but dealing with ice and flooded roads is still an issue.

  • Renault vel satis - Renault vel satis aircon/climate not working 26 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I have replaced the evaporator sensor and pollen filter. The outside temp sensor reads ok and the passenger temp sensor fan runs and I have had it and cleaned it just in case. I had the aircon gas recharge at Kwikfit fit. It detected no leaks and says the system takes 650g and it only had 75g in it so was nearly empty (there may be decimal point in there somewhere) still the aircon didn't work.
  • Mazda 6 - AHC Services & independent servicing in general 18 Jul 2012 (Forum)
However, they are not VAT registered (does it matter?), and not a limited company either. It seems they run the place from their home. Also, I could not find them in any of the MOT directories, but then even the Mazda dealer I used to go to did MOTs at a garage next door. They are not a member of any association either.
  • 1.4 - Fiesta TDCI - another change 13 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I doubt very much it will have stop start and brake regeneration otherwise the claimed figures would be much bigger. I get between 57-61mpg and the engine has yet to be run in.
  • 1995 toyota celica convertible 2.0GT Auto - Celica Charge and Catalyst lights suddenly on 12 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Tried disconnecting/reconnecting the battery to clear ECU but they remain. Tried disconnecting battery with engine running and it dies - does this mean the alternator is dead ? Why would that cause the catalyst light ?? The drive belt is going round fine. It had a new catalyst and oxygen sensor about 1,000 miles ago when I bought it.
  • Why do dealers not believe you? 16 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I collected the car and drove the two miles home.  There was an odd noise which I realied was the radiator fan running constantly.  The next day my wife rang them and told them about it but said we would bring it in when convenient.  In the meantime a local a/c specialst replaced the consdenser. So we took the car back today and Lo and Behold they said the fault was caused by the a/c company.
  • VW Golf MK4 - VW Golf 2001.....what to do??? 10 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Hey, I am in a bit of a dilemma I have owned a 1.4 VW Golf 2001 (Y) for the last 4 years and 4 months it is still in great condition, and 80,000 on the clock. I am getting a new car and always thought I'll keep the Golf as a run about for taking the dog up the hills, and for the missus whist she is off on maternity leave so she can nip to the local shops, classes and appointment etc......basically it will be hardly doing any miles.....BUT its fair to say its cost be a bit over the time I have had it and my question is to anyone out there that can help is it worth keeping?
  • Ford Mondeo - 05 Octavia to 56(07) Mondeo 30 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I have now spotted a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Titanium X with 55k on it, and I am wondering if its worth buying. Its up for £6000 and in mint condition with a full service history. Its one of the run out Mondeo III models and possibly an ex-rental car. Registered Jan 07 and sold on in July 07. They're offering me £2000 on my Octavia, even though its in above average condition, but I agree the mileage is high.
  • Nissan Pathfinder - clutch 12 Apr 2012 (Forum)
He recently tried bleeding the brakes - I sat in the car to depress the pedal when asked. The engine was not running during the procedure but, the moment I touched the pedal, it went to the floor on its own. When asked to take my foot off the pedal, it would not return and took considerable force to lift the pedal with my foot.
  • VW Camper - Halford's battery guarentee 17 Mar 2012 (Forum)
They were told that as it was not holding a charge it was not performing as a car battery should etc as per "sales of goods act"  Result but with same guarentee running out as on old battery. Why do they try it on????
  • How to sell a 1919 Renault type EU 11 Mar 2012 (Forum)
We have found it fairly easy to market the Royces, but we are looking for advice on how to best sell a 1919 Renault type EU. It needs a respray, but runs and drives lovely. It would make an excellent recommissioning project for someone. What I am asking, is how rare are these vehicles, what are they worth, and what would be the best place to advertise such a vehicle?
  • Private insurance as a trader 9 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Hello all, I started out as a self employed car dismantler 2-3months ago and have now decided to branch out into trading aswell. My question is.. I have a multicar policy for both me and my girlfriend which is due to run out in 2 months time, and being 22 the extra years NCD makes a large difference, so I don't want to cancel early. Come April I'll be getting traders insurance to make it all nice and easy, but in the mean time how can I insure the cars that I buy and sell?
  • BMW E46 320D - Ignition/Starting Issue 6 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I can get it to start eventually by turning ignition on and off until all lights etc come on the dash as normal, you can then hear the fuel pump working but takes a long time to build pressure - around 13 seconds. It will then fire up and run normally. After a reasonable legth drive (50 miles to work) it will restart no problem, fuel pressure builds in 5 seconds and pump sounds much stronger. After reading various threads with similar issues I've replaced the fuel pump relay and this made no difference, I'm not inclined to spend £170 or so on a pump just yet as people who have gone this route seem to continue to have problems and I get the feeling its more of an electrical issue i.e. signal to/from ecu or instrument pack etc.
  • Ford Focus TDCi (2002) - Air con - fans issue 2 Feb 2012 (Forum)
If, say, I drive on the motorway for 5-10 mins, stop the car then start the car and AC, the low speed fan then seem to run as normal. I have recently had the condensor changed and the car regassed and checked for leaks, which came back all clear.  The AC man also checked the gas pressures when I mentioned this problem to him a few weeks after and they were normal.
  • If Someone Gave you 50k... 1 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Bare in mind that this would be a one off lump sum so you would need to take into account MPG and cost of running as you wont get any lump sum again only your average wages. The first thing that came to my mind was aston martin! but then i saw the MPG...then i thought bentley!...again MPG So then i stated looking at sporty yet realistic cars such as the new focus ST due mid 2012, Audi S range and BMW M series.
  • Any large diesel estate - Ride comfort 24 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I know this subject has been done to death but I haven't yet seen a really objective answer that meets my needs.  I have been running hydropnumatic citroens for the last 25 years or so and have got used to there excellent ride, my last XMs are coming to the end of their lives and I am looking for a suitable secondhand large estate car that has a good ride.
  • Audi A4 Allroad - what am I missing? a good Audi A4 Lease deal? 9 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I purchased my 2005 Audi A4 2.0 TDi 140 S-Line Avant - Leather, Navigation, Colour coded Optics Grille Kit etc with 78,000 on the clock Oct 2008. its now got 107,000  (approx 9600 p/yr avrg) and I am in the position that I have owned thrown far too much money at a 6 year car with high mileage and now looking at the lease option. Gear box has just gone! I run my own business (partnership) - not sure if this makes any difference when applying for a lease? I've found this Audi A4 Allroad on just a couple of sites at this sort of same price, seems too good to be true?
