Driving in Europe with HID Xenon lamps!! 28 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I know that height adjustment is automatic, but I think that sales should make buyers aware of such an important issue when ordering with Xenons as normal light deflectors do not work. Has anyone here had these problems too, or in the case of driving abroad, found an easier way then removing the bumper on a VAG car to adjust them for driving on the right? Unknown to us seen by plod.. swmbo drives rarely, probably 2nd or 3rd time this year, Shortly after turned off main road, and as not very used to traffc, slows down a bit. -
n/a - standing around minding my own business 30 Mar 2014 (Forum)
This person comes up to me and says “sorry I don’t know how to drive, do you mind moving my car for me? If you reversed it onto the road I’m sure I would be able to drive it forward ok” I politely declined and explained I wouldn’t be insured so I wouldn’t take the risk it’s a none starter. -
Subaru Legacy 2.5 (2005) - Crankshaft aux-belt drive pulley disintegrated 1 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Hi Just been towed by the AA to my local Subaru Dealer as my aux drive belt broke..... Unfortunately the crankshaft pulley that drives it apears to have disntegrated -I assume throwing off/breakig the belt. Pulley seems to be a "Sandwich" construction of an outer metal drive ring with a rubber cushioning layer thats then all-bonded to the pulley that engaages on the end of the cranbkshaft. -
Any - Cold weather driving 17 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Switched to 5W-40 oil instead of the specified 10W-30 which probably has the same effect anyway. Drive straight off with no idling, keeping revs below 2500 for the first couple of minutes, below 3000 RPM for the next couple of minutes make full use of revs thereafter. Anyone else got any winter tips/customs/protocols for driving in cold weather? -

Vauxhall Zafira B (2005 - ) - 07 1.9 - wont drive in a straight line? 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)
If I point the steering wheel straight, the car does drive in a straght line. Just done a 20minute drive on motorway and not done to any slope in the road. I have had the car for like 6 months and got from a Network Q garage and is due for its 2nd year service in about 3 months. -
US/UK License and Driving 26 Nov 2007 (Forum)
4. Is it advisable for me to take a driving lesson from RAC, etc, or are they a waste of time/money considering that I have about 12 years of driving experience? Truly appreciate any help you can provide. Cheers! -
And another dodgey driver... 10 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My comment: And another person, who patently cannot drive, joins us on the road. Why does the system let people like this keep on trying? Other countries such as Germany require a person who keeps failing to undergo psychological tests whereby this would preclude them from driving ever again. -
Alternatives to Polo? 16 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The problem is, we've not seen anything in its class or price range which compares with it (in terms of how it drives, how solid it feels, how it feels like a bigger car than it is etc.). Have driven (in the same class): Fiesta (1999, diesel) -- not impressed Corsa (2001?, petrol) -- drives OK but feels smaller Peugeot 206 (T-reg) -- drives OK but not impressed with build quality Clio (2002) -- drives OK but feels smaller Jazz (2003) -- best of the bunch, but still feels like a small car, and noisy engine compared to Polo, also more expensive (perhaps not like for like, but I'm not interested in 'spec'). -
VW scirocco problems 27 Aug 2003 (Forum)
If you dip the clutch you can keep the engine running smoothly by hitting the gas but as soon as you let of the gas the engine dies. Very easy to start afterwards but will not drive, idles ok (sometimes!). if you leave it for a minute it will start ok and drive ok! You may be able to drive it ok for 20miles then go to the local shops and it lurches. Totally random when it happens, the car either drives perfect or not at all, normally on the same journey. -
SsangYong Korando - Average driving Speeds 23 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Average speed was 19 mph over the past 1500 ish miles which yesterday included a fast as legally possible drive to France including a nice fast bit on the Autoroute. 85 in the Korando is plenty fast enough for me most of the time... Traffic congestion in Essex is as bad as I have evr seen it. -

Insurance- driving through floods 3 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Well I've seen some particularly stupid videos here in S Wales of people deliberately driving through clearly deep flood water on the roads and the subsequent completely predictable stalling, floating away etc of the ruined car. I was wondering whether these kinds of actions are covered by comprehensive insurance or not. -
UK resident: Driving in the USA 2 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I’m told the insurance is different over there, something about the car being insured not the owner, which suggests he can drive their car. Is this in fact correct? Would he be fully covered? Anything else I need to worry about?! -
Driveway Obstruction 2 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Neighbours opposite have 2 cars (Father and Son) and either one will park their car opposite my drive on the street not having a drive of their own, it can take 2 or 3 shunts to get on/off my drive. Despite asking politely them not to do so that fell on deaf ears, explaining it's difficult leaving for work at 5.30 am in darkness. -
Ford Focus Estate 2010 1.6TDCi Zetec - Back seat removal, cleaning & driving without it. 29 Apr 2016 (Forum)

Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer - Astra Electric Parking Break Stuck On 13 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Hi, My wife's Astra has been on the drive other Christmas, she was unable to drive it due to an operation. I started it up last week and tried to reverse it off the drive, but it appears that the parking break is stuck on. It's an electric parking break and makes the normal 'noises' as if the parking break has been disengaged, but the car will not move. -
Clio II RXE Auto - Does the ABS sensor affect Auto transmission drive 16 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Just fitted new front brakes and for some reason after lowering the car the Auto transmission will not drive in D or R...just clicks. If I roll the car back and fore in D it sometimes engages. When I give it light revs the speedo goes up! As I said all was fine before I changed the brakes, could it be the ABS sensor?
