Driving Me Crazy 16 May 2007 (Forum)
I did see it and at first I thought it was being presented by Jo Brand (John Sargeant must be her brother as they look so similar to me!). -

Mobile Phones & Driving from the ET 1 Aug 2001 (Forum)
We would not want to introduce a law that would fall into disrepute because it would very rarely be detected. It would lose its deterrent effect." However, the law on using mobile phones while driving is far from clear and both police and motorists are often confused about when they can use a mobile phone while driving. Last year, the RAC Foundation urged the Government to consider an outright ban on the use of handheld phones by motorists while driving, though it said careful use of hands-free systems should continue to be legal. -
Toyota hybrid, Seat Leon, Ford Focus - Used car recommendation 30 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I am looking for a reliable, decent to drive and ideally with an mpg of around 40 or more 2016-2017 petrol automatic to have for the next 3-5 years. My budget is about £15000. I am not interested in the way it looks very much, but I do care about reliability, decent comfort inside and to be nice enough to drive especially around town where I do most of my driving. -
Any - New driver: worth driving something cheap first? 24 May 2013 (Forum)
As you can tell I'm not quite sure what type of car I want, but I'm also wondering if I'll be well placed to test drive cars with very little experience. So, my question: is there any sense in buying something cheap while I get the hang of driving/reverse into bollards/get a sense of what I might want from a more expensive car? -

Driving on side lights 24 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I followed the BMW for a couple of miles until he/she turned off the motorway, looking back I could see he/she was driving on sidelights, or to make matter worse, one sidelight. I doubt if the people who drive with sidelights ever bother to check if they are working, so they could be blindly unaware that they have no lights because their dashboard lights are on. -
Racer type cars, new advanced driving test? 14 Feb 2008 (Forum)
A guy about my age (old enough to know better) was standing next to it not making eye contact with passing traffic. Point is, with traction control and front wheel drive making powerful cars safer from spins, should this type of car need advanced training like a big bike in order to be licensed to drive one? I`m refering to powerful rear wheel drive where there is no traction control or where it can be switched off. -
Driving Other Cars, Insurance Q 21 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I am 24yrs old, when I took out my current years insurance I was 23. I am with Budget but my current policy is underwritten by Inter Hannova. I currently have the 'drive other cars' extension on my policy. It was a bit of a surprise when I got this facility from Budget being under 25 and all, but it is very useful thing to have-share the driving with a mate on a trip out, borrow a family car to nip to the shops, take the old man's Cooper S out for a spin etc. -
Grandad's Accord auto - advice? 16 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Apart from that it drives and shifts fine. I have a horrid suspicion it might be to do with the fact that my Grandad shifts into neutral at every set of traffic lights he comes to. One other thing - the engine seems to idle when cold (according to the rev counter) at under 500RPM when in drive. -
Advanced Driving Test - worth the money? 15 Aug 2004 (Forum)
What is Sparkle?! I guess it's all about making progress, driving at the speed limit when the road is clear etc etc. My problem with this is that I'm a bit of a Sunday driver when it comes to country lanes, where the speed limit may *be* 60mph, but I'm damn well not going to drive at 60mph because country lanes scare me! -

Test Drives. How did you get the one you wanted? 9 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Following on from my previous thread (asking for car buying advice) I would like to ask about Test Drives. Until recently I have always known exactly what car I wanted. 3 x XJ in a row and a RangeRover before that. Test Drive was easy. The Range Rover had a 3.5 petrol and was an automatic. no problem. -
Audi A3 - Police stopping a car 15 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Now almost a week later I got told by someone I trust that someone phoned the police and told them I would be drink driving. Now to my questions, if the police have received intelligence, would I be within my rights to ask that? (obviously not asking for names because it's supposed to be anonymous) and if they said they haven't it was just a routine stop, is driving to work at 4.30am really reason to suspect I'm drink driving and can they actually stop me if I'm doing nothing wrong or would they need reason to suspect me of drink driving? -
Switzerland BEWARE! - New speeding drinkdriving penalties 29 Dec 2015 (Forum)
There is not an English translation of the above, but anyone losing their licence for 12 months will have to drive with a "black box" recording their driving for a minimum of 5 years as a condition of getting said licence back, and in some cases will also have to retake the driving test. Probably coming to a country near you soon. -
SEAT Alhambra 2008 - drive problem 12 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I have a 2008 SEAT Alhambra – it has done 46500 miles. I have a problem with the drive. In the last year (15,000 miles), I’ve had 3 sets of disks and pads because the disks have warped. In attempt to find the cause, the drive flanges were replaced 7000 miles ago.
