Undersealing 4 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I know that there have been quite forceful opinions on the wisdom of running an imported Japanese MPV (Toyota Masterace). However, with due consideration to it's low purchase price and it's full complement of "extras" compared to the traditional types of MPV, and acceptance that these vehicles are not for the fainthearted owner in that it is essential that the cambelt, cooling systems, electrics etc have to be checked/maintained and fully understood to obtain satisfactory and satisfying performance, I have been more than pleased with my vehicle over the last nine months. -
Serious Virus Warning 27 Nov 2001 (Forum)
The virus loads files into the Windows System folders and adds a Registry entry to ensure they are running all the while so you can't delete them easily. The "payload" is that the virus loads a program that can send information from your PC to the IP address that sent it to you, I gather it can transmit such things as all keystrokes you make on the PC and passwords etc. -
LPG 26 Nov 2000 (Forum)
LPG burns cleaner - less pollutants - and the power issue vanishes when you stop trying to make cars burn petrol OR LPG. These Fords which are engineered to run LPG only you lose a little at high peak power but gain in peak torque. All larger filling stations now sell LPG. More and more fleet buyers are moving to LPG. I just swopped leased petrol Falcon for for a dedicated LPG Falcon. -
Carjacking Notes 4 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Motion the other driver to follow you; you do not want to give the other driver the idea you are running away from an accident, even though the other driver caused the accident. Keep your car doors locked and windows rolled up. Keep packages, purse, etc. on the floor rather than on the seat where they are easier to see. -
Sub £1,000 motoring 21 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Stick with simple mass market models and be prepared to be flexible. A tidy Honda Accord could cost less to run than a tatty Fiesta despite being dearer to tax and fuel because it never costs you in repairs. Don’t go in with a fixed make, model or size of car in mind if you can, you need to be flexible. I’m not going to break down a list of cars based on size as again you need more flexibility to get ultra cheap motoring right but here’s a wee list of cars I’ve sold and run at this end of the spectrum that’ve proven cost effective and reliable. -
Hyundai Tucson Diesel 2019 Plate. - DPF ISSUE 12 Aug 2025 (Forum)
Hi All I bought my 2019 Tuscon when it was 6 months old, despite doing on average 10 miles a day during the week and longer runs at the weekend and on holidays etc, it had zero issues, I broke my ankle last September, the Car was stationary for 2 months and has been a nightmare since, essentially around 15-20 miles the dpf light comes on, and then the Engine warning light, a few months ago the Engine light went out and obviously the dpf light goes out/resets when the car is turned off, i use nothing but Esso premium fuel and have tried a lot of different dpf cleaners, a friend who's a mechanic has looked at the car and he cannot see why there's a problem, and that the dpf maybe faulty, I suspect that the 2 months the car was sat still caused a soot build up, can anyone recommend a solution please. -
Mazda3 2.0 SE Nav 5dr - Buying Mazda3 2015 @80k £6,000 cash? 23 Apr 2025 (Forum)
The engines got the louder cold-start sound, but the two queries I have are: - - rattle/ and separate high end clicking noise when running. Dealership engineer has confirmed is normal' but sounds similar to slack T.Chain tensioner noise on you tube - cracked dashboard display, is still readable Just wondering if this sounds a fair price from a dealership. -
Renault Clio - Techron D Concentrated Diesel Fuel System Cleaner 28 Oct 2024 (Forum)
Last year i was getting 58mpg on my clio but the MPG dropped massively to 50mpg and even after a minor service in January , The MPG didn't improve, So i booked the car into ATS for a Major service last month which included adding Techron D Concentrated Diesel Fuel System Cleaner which i would imagine into the fuel tank. After a few days and a run on the motorway, I am now getting the 58 MPG so i would imagine that the Cheap fuel that i buy from Esso isn't all that clean. " I have a Card for Esso" ATS is selling Techron D Concentrated Diesel Fuel System Cleaner at £32 a shot with a ebay seller selling at £15 a shot, I just wonder if how this competes against Red X and other engine cleaners, Its certainly cleaned out my engine and it maybe worth buying a couple of bottles I may give the ESSO synergy supreme a try the next time i fill up. -
NSU Ro80 3 Oct 2024 (Forum)
Given that it cost only a little over £1000, It's something of a bargain classic in my eyes, especially given its good condition, MOT, tax and provenence. Does anyone have any tips having owned/run one of these, or a weekend car in general? My father-in-law had one for ten years until 1986 and cant' wait to have a drive again. He's a keen restorer of classic bikes and is currently working on a rebuild of a 1971 Silver Shadow, so will be able to help me out. -
How many miles will a Routemaster bus have done? 23 Aug 2024 (Forum)
And no hearing ability left whatsoever. This is one of the 40mph models - apparently a few examples built for the Gatwick run had a much higher final drive ratio and could exceed 60! - although I levelled out at around 34mph due to the incredible noise from the engine some 12" from my left elbow. They don't have odometers, so.. how many miles is a RM likely to have covered since it was built? -
Renault Kangoo 1.4 diesel 2012 - Van electrics went off whilst driving, engine was 3 Jan 2024 (Forum)
It worked and got me going. Then two weeks after I was driving and electrics went off, engine was still running I wasn't far from home so managed to get it back home even though power steering went off. Whilst this was happening all warning lights started coming on until eventually they were all on. Once I got home I turned engine off, then tried to restart it but it just made a ticking noise and wouldn't start, it has been Christmas holidays and havnt needed it so left it 3 days before looking into it. -
Honda Civic - Honda Civic vs Audi A4 15 Sep 2023 (Forum)
Can I ask if my assumption is correct - that Honda civic is certainly more reliable, cheaper-to-run option than Audi? Thank you -
None - Looking for a suitable car 19 May 2023 (Forum)
I really like Mazda's reliability, and I'll be disappointed if I have to go with another make, but I'm not sure if I really want to end up with an estate or other larger type of vehicle.... Mostly because of the running costs. I'm looking at Toyotas but don't know as much about them (or the boot space). I know Honda is good for boot space and reliability but I've driven a 2002 Civic and didn't enjoy it at all so I'm not keen on going with Honda, unless other models are very different. -
Juke or yeti? - Best larger reliable car on a budget 24 Jul 2022 (Forum)
I am considering selling my Yaris and getting a bigger slightly newer car such as a Skoda Yeti or a Nissan Juke I think I would get around £4,000 to £5,000 for my Yaris and I was hoping to get a newer car for no more than say £11-12,000.Ideally I would like an Automatic this time with some mod cons like heated seats parking camera bluetooth etc but I also want it to be very reliable and relatively cheap to run and maintain, thank you -
VW Jetta - DSG Problem 17 Apr 2022 (Forum)
No amount of acceleration would move it forward or backward. Managed to get it pushed round the corner. The engine was running fine, and the gear selector was able to be moved along the slot. On the dash their their is a guide to which gear you are in all the letters were flashing. Called out the RAC all they could do was tow me home, not to far a distance. -
Mazda 6 Tourer - 2.2d Auto - Cold Start Problem 6 Jan 2022 (Forum)
Third/Forth attempt - starts. This now happens every time I start the car from cold. Once the car has been running and the engine is warm it starts fine. I thought is might be battery related, but I changed it about 2 weeks ago and I still have the issue. Any thoughts? I was thinking glow plugs or fuel pump. -
Parking issues 18 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Even though there is plenty of space between my driveway and neighbors driveway, people just don't realise the inconvenience they cause by parking closer to either of the driveways, over the H bar. Letters to nearby offices, council etc etc has had no effect. A friend who runs a used car dealership suggests buying a car with MOT & tax it, park it outside my house, so no one else can park. I don't need to use the second car though. My neighbors will have no issues as they their own parking and also in the same situation as me. -
Torn between a Passat and an A4 Avant- HELP!? 9 Oct 2021 (Forum)
I have a bit of a conundrum. We are in the market for a car. It will mainly be used for the school run and the odd longer journey at the weekend (max 20 miles). We probably do 5000 miles a year. I have a large dog so an estate is a must for me. I have spotted a PHEV 2018 Passat with 70k on the clock in budget. -
Ford fiesta 1.6 petrol 2007 - Engine tapping noise 7 Apr 2021 (Forum)
It's worse when driving past parked cars and built up areas as I can hear it bouncing of which makes it sound louder. The engine is running really well and pulls fine with no problem except for this noise. The car has been serviced by me every 6 months since owning it and I don't rag it around other than a few b Road blasts when the oil is up too temperature. -
Polo, Mini or Jazz? 1 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Other than that, considerations are speed (current have an old i10 - it would be nice to have something a little more exciting to drive), reliability, style (personally like the look of the Mini), cost to run and space for luggage. I'm mostly a weekend driver, putting in a lot of miles in the summer for mini breaks and camping trips. Will want to mount a bike rack at some point too. My head tells me the Jazz is the sensible choice, but my heart is with the Mini.
