  • Indirectly related to Susan's post 2 May 2005 (Forum)
My pal's father was then apparently granted a licence to assemble Austin cars in the Philippines from imported parts to aid the rebirth of the country's auto industry, and his factory produced for a number of years Austins: Devons, A30's, Cambridges, Minis and the like, which sold in moderate numbers to people who could afford them. This he told me survived till the early 1960's when the Marcos dictatorship wanted economic ties cut with countries which did not support it and to rebuild ties with Japan.
  • Woe, Woe, Woe ! 18 Mar 2005 (Forum)
t see the low wall, path is narrow and very steep. Keep touching wall and knocking blocks off onto neighbour?s side with loud noise (600mm drop). The car only has only one reversing light, which is set too high and to one side. So, I discuss with dealer?s service manager the fitting of two after-market reversing lights, almost hiding them below the rear valence, as high as I can without affecting the beam.
  • 3 x idiots - 1 x unfortunate 22 Feb 2005 (Forum)
There was much screaching of tyres and this fool missed being wiped out by about 8 - 10 feet as the driver of the on coming vehilce did not react as soon as (s)he might have. He dived towards the pavement where he thought it would be amusing to roll around acting like the car had actually hit him, as his mates cheered and aplauded. Made me so angry to think of the consequences for the other motorist had (s)he hit him, I wanted to go over and pound him into the ground just for his sheer stupidity - tough love or road rage - i'm not sure which!
  • Local lunacy (again!) 29 Jun 2004 (Forum)
The doors were unable to shut tightly because rust had loosened their hinges. The rear hatch could not be opened and a missing window was covered with tape. The driver\'s seat belt had no anchors and hung loosely from a hole in the floor. The windscreen wipers, which did not work, were held together with tape. \"The whole thing is held together with body putty and duct tape.\" \"It is literally about to fall apart and it was only a matter of time before someone died in it,\" said Lee.
  • Advice needed - Smokey Escort TD. 4 Jan 2004 (Forum)
In mid november, i sold my BMW 328i cabriolet and down graded to a 98 S Ford Escort TD with 77k on the clock and part s/h(Due to buying a house and doing lots of miles for work meant i needed more economy) When i test drove the escort, it was fine apart from blue smoke on overrun, which i assumed to be it burning off excess oil (Had just been serviced and sat on forecourt for a while) Anyways, salesman put my mind at rest and i bought the car. less than a week and 600 miles later, the oil light flickered on going round a roundabout to work.
  • Fun weekend car - suggestions? 30 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Naturally I know that these come with an element of risk which I'd like to try and mitigate a bit in terms of not buying anything that is notorious for problems or costly repairs. I have always wanted a Mini and have seen a number of 2019 onwards Cooper S models that I am very tempted by as they are a riot to drive.  All FSH with auto boxes (I want auto) and main dealer supplied - would these be a decent or a risky buy in terms of reliability?  I have an excellent BMW/Mini independent garage very close to me if I had any issues or for servicing at reasonable cost.
  • Is there a way of finding out if a used car been used for private hire? 14 Mar 2024 (Ask HJ)
Is there a way of knowing if a car has been used for private hire (taxi) as now it seems that any car can be a private hire (taxi) and once plates have...
  • Yaris Hybrid/Mini/Jazz/Zoe/ID4! - Quality Small Hatchback - Which One? ?? 5 Jan 2024 (Forum)
What are your thoughts?  My reasoning for these cars I'm reviewing are I drive around two under 12's for school runs and activities, 80% is urban short distant driving.  Hence for parking I'd like a small car, but I would love a little more space than the Yaris Hybrid offers in the back, and could do without the headache of EV charging.
  • What reliable car do you recommend for two pensioners? 3 Oct 2023 (Ask HJ)

  • Gadgets we rarely use... 30 May 2023 (Forum)
they serve no purpose at all: When I occasionally flick them on and off on a quiet road, I can hardly see any improvement in the front lighting, although they may provide a tad of early warning for any myopic racc***s in the area. I've only used the horn once or twice in all this time. (Fellow Toyota Auris drivers will understand why.) Rear seat passengers never seem interested in the central armrest. Perhaps if would attract more curiosity if it held a drinks chiller or the controls for a rocket launcher rather than two dull cupholders.
  • Dacia Sandero Stepway - Car won't start after airbag issues 2 Nov 2022 (Forum)

  • Audi Q7 - Air conditioning issues 16 May 2021 (Forum)
Hi I'm new. Bought a 2008 3.0tdi s line a few weeks ago and the a/c doesn't work properly. The econ light was on all the time so i had it pressure tested. Changed the pipe on the nsf and pressure tested again, all good so had it charged.
  • Civic 1.8 VTEC - Poor fuel economy after little use for 12mths 1 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I don't know if it's one of those things where because it has not been used the plugs need changing or water in the tank/piped meaning poor fuel economy? My knowledge of this is limited so any help advice without paying £££s would be great. Thanks, Darren

  • What's the best diesel on a £5000 budget? 16 Jan 2019 (Ask HJ)
I'm looking for a used car with a £5000 budget but it needs to be a diesel as I'm covering 1400 miles per month. I'd prefer an automati0. What do you recommend?
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - yr2004 - camshaft snapped, compensation???? 23 Dec 2018 (Forum)
They want over £2500 for a new engine. The car is just out of Vauxhall warranty. It has full Vauxhal S/H. Its done just over 30K miles. She has a computer print-out showing she asked them to investigate the noise & that they didn't have time. The service manager isn't entertaining any sort of "compensation" which to me stinks, considering all of the above.
  • Another what to buy 5 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I do find I am sitting quite low in the corsa, I have arthritis and I tend to 'roll' out of the car, I did have a look at the Fabia and found the driving position to be higher than the Corsa, Do any members of this forum have any good or bad experiences of either the C3 or the Fabia, or should I be looking at a small SUV, for example the Ingis or S-Cross from Suzuki?
