  • BMW - BMW Depreciation question 14 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Possible a 320 CI but more likely a 3 door 1 Series 118SE. What percentage of list price should I expect to pay for one six months old and 12 months old assuming 10K miles per year? (Her previous car had a "mishap" at the local garage when in for a minor repair this week - needs a new bonnet, windscreen, and the roof is less than perfect!
  • Crazy insurance prices 8 Oct 2005 (Forum)
It's costing me 280 a year to insure an old banger worth 200 quid, third party fire and theft. I phoned up to ask them how much extra it would be if I changed cars to a R reg Audi S8 4.2, which is listed as Group 20. An extra 270 quid. I asked the dude to check his price three times, as I thought there must be something wrong.
  • Rover 214 Antifreeze renewal 1 Jan 2005 (Forum)
But how much roughly will I need, and is it easy enough to do off my driveway without access under the car or should I just take it to the garage.
  • How long do engines last? 2 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Showed my dad an advert of the car i want -\'96 Mazda 323 1.5 gxi with 70,000 miles. His first concern was that 70,000 miles is too much for a petrol engine (my/his old diesel corolla has done 86,000) and i should watch out for blue smoke etc etc.
  • Hood shrinkage 29 Jan 2003 (Forum)
The hood on my vitesse has shrunk during this summer. I don't know whether it was because it was off the car while body work was being done ( 3 whole months but that's another complaint!) or old age (it's about 7 years old, probably mohair) or the fact that I used a well known hood dye on it. Is there anyway of stretching the hood back or should I just give up and get either a vinyl or double-duck (what ever that is) replacement?
  • Toyota Yaris - Older Car with Low Mileage - good idea or no? 29 Jul 2016 (Forum)
So for a first car, after sharing my mum's car for nearly a year, I've been looking at some of the old style Toyota Yaris - one in particular I'm looking at has done 32,000 miles - the 1.4 D-4D. Now I'm going to be seeing the car in person soon but the advert has claimed it has full service history, has been well looked after, no advisories previous MOT etc - would you say reliability wise this car would be a safe bet to last a while, or would I do better looking at a newer car with higher mileage?
  • Which car - Mazda 6 or Subaru Legacy 5 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi, i am looking to be a used car, approx 3 years old and have narrowed it down to 2 cars - the Subaru Legacy 2.5 and the Mazda 6 2.3 Sport. Would appreciate any views & experiences on the 2 cars and which would be the better choice

  • Super unleaded petrol 23 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Just changed car to a 1.6 litre Fiat Multiwagon. Can't decide whether to run on premium or super unleaded. Old car, 2.4 litre Mitsubishi, ran well on Optimax. Is new engine too small to justify extra cost?
  • Time wears cars out? 8 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Sorry for the repeat, but I think the following got lost in the old messages - Robin wrote: 'Thing one: time wears cars out more than mileage these days, like aeroplanes.' Interesting point - Do the people who repair cars when they wear out agree?
  • High milage cars 27 Feb 2001 (Forum)
I am looking for a 3 or 4 year old car to last about 6 years at 7,000 or 8,000 miles per year. Would a car in good condition but with 90,000 or 100,000miles miles be a good bet? If so which of the golf or larger estates would you recomend I look at?
  • KIA Pride - What's the best way to sell my old KIA Pride? 7 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I've an old Kia Pride that I've had for the last six years and now I want to sell it. I know there's at least a couple of people here in the used car game and I thought I'd pick their brains. It's just got a new MOT and I put six months tax on it so it can be legally driven on the roads if anyone wants a test drive (I thought that would also make it more attractive).
  • Car insurance for newly passed 17 year old 24 Apr 2024 (Forum)
He is taking his test next week so in a spirit of optimism I am tentatively exploring options for insurance.  Last summer we bought a project car for him on his 17th, a 2002 Fiat Seicento and since January I’ve been taking him out for practise in addition to his lessons. Insuring him as a learner was through Adrian Flux for £257 for 4 months (I’m also insured to drive it on a cheap classic policy).
  • Old large diesel estate 11 Oct 2006 (Forum)
What I want is a large and by large I mean Volvo sized, estate which is also fairly economical ( hence the diesel idea ) which will also be durable and reliable as far as you can with old cars. My shortlist is Vauxhall Carlton 2.3D, Audi 100 Avant, Volvo 740 TD, Peugeot 505 2.5D and the Ford Granada 2.5D. Im not keen on turbo cars really as at the age Im looking at, its likely to be knackered, so id prefer one of the non-turbo options as a preference.
  • You'd banger believe it. 23 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Jonny said: "I was expecting it to be a real wreck, but it was better than ever... whoever took the Sunny obviously liked their cars and had treated the old girl well. I've done very well out of the whole incident." That's one happy ending for a stolen car story, and here's another - a violent London gang responsible for stealing £350,000-worth of cars were jailed yesterday for a total of 80 years.
  • No depreciation £5-8k sport car 24 May 2005 (Forum)
What's come to mine is an mid-80s Porsche 911 coupe for £6-8k. What's there to look for on these cars other than in the c-by-c breakdown? My main worry is that everything will be welded/rusted together on a 20 year-old car and, as I will be working on the car myself, I will be blow-touching when comes to replacing parts.
