Renault Scenic '05 - rear brake squeal 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Their suggestion was to take it to a car wash and use a pressure washer on the back of the wheel for 2-3 minutes per wheel. They also told me that they couldn't clean the pads under warranty because it's a "non-service" item and Autolease won't pay for it. -
Mazda 6 2.2d Sport Nav 2016 - What to do? P2118 & DPF Malfunction 5 Jul 2024 (Forum)
There is not a chance that we will go to a Mazda dealer as we just don't trust them. (When it was 2 weeks outside the 3-year warranty, with 58k miles on the clock, Mazda wouldn't do anything when we had a broken oil chain which caused severe damage resulting in us having to have a new bottom end, cam shaft, turbo charger, flywheel and the dpf removed from the car and professionally cleaned at high temperature). -
Mazda RX-8 - Seat problems (painful, wearing, misdescribed) 5 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I have problems with my seats on my RX8 R3 that I want Mazda to sort out and would appreciate advice on what I can realistically achieve, how to go about it (I was intending to start with a letter to Mazda, copied to Recaro), what the legal position is and where I can get cost-effective professional help. The car: I bought privately (no dealer to strong-arm) 6 months ago, it is 2 years old (one year of the original manufacturer's warranty left to run) and it has the Recaro seats standard on this UK 'face-lift' version of the RX8 ('R3' is a trim level - the US and Japan had several others but the UK only had the R3, which is the 'sports' version and the only one with these seats). -
Time of life? 5 Feb 2005 (Forum)
In a nutshell it boils down to this: Should I a) Sell the Alfa and buy a new Nissan X-trail SVE DCi as my main personal transport, running up 25,000-30,000 miles per year or b) Keep the Alfa until the wheels fall off, using it as my main car, and spend a not dissimilar amount to the purchase price of a new X-trail on the purchase of a secondhand Maserati 3200GT (likely to be a 1999 or 2000 model, with perhaps 30,000-40,000 miles on it), using it for no more than 5,000-8,000 miles per annum. -

Honda Civic Hybrid 2008 Au - Automatic Hybrid Gearbox problem 4 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Once I brought the car home, I got it checked from a mechanic who suspected that it is the Gearbox. Requested AA to check the car and they conformed the dreaded news that the noise is for Gearbox and not for the drive shaft. -
SEAT Leon - 2007 Seat Leon 1.9 DTI DPF or not? 31 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I tried a 2010 Hyundai i10 today 1.2 petrol and it was ok. I just like the torquey desiels which I am used to. -
FIAT Scudo - failed ECU sales of goods act 3 Oct 2013 (Forum)
FIAT however simply stated that the car was outside of their usual warranty. I then contacted the vendor on the basis of the Sales of Goods Act. He repeatedly pointed me to FIAT Customer care, and in the end I began small claims proceedings. -

Corsa to sell - effort to put in 27 Apr 2007 (Forum)
My son has accepted a job and will have access to a cheap lease car so his (I paid for it) 52 reg 1.0 Corsa is to sell in a month or so. It has around 17k miles on it and has been used to get him initially to sixth form after we moved and to work in summer holidays from University and very occasional use in between. -
Nissan Pulsar - Handbrake/back breaks (one issue of many!) 4 Feb 2023 (Forum)
I use the car mainly for school runs and the odd day trip so it’s not done many miles in the time that I’ve had it but I feel pretty sick about the fact that I’ve been driving my kids around in a potential death trap. -
Mercedes E Class Rusting 96-02 Model 8 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Hello all, I have a Jan 1997 Mercedes E280, a fine car that runs great even with 99,200 on the clock. Has never required any repairs in 2 years of ownership. HOWEVER! As many Merc owners of this type will know there are rust problems. I have heard various reasons, like "its the streched steel construction" or "these were built in humid India" I have heard conflicting reports that Mercedes will repair rust damage and that these cars have a 30 year anti-perforation warranty. -
Alfa GT 3.2 V6 - Problems with new(to me) car dealer won't fix! 12 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I've currently wasted about 12 hours of my time going to and from garages and in fault tracking which has prevented me from working as well. The web site of the garage states that all cars are hpi clear, mot'd, serviced where needed, have a 140 point check, are professionally valeted and come with a 3 month/3000 mile warranty for peace of mind. The garage will not pay for anything (except for the £80) saying that it's just normal wear for a car of that age. -
Renault Scenic - recurring probem with used car in Scotland 14 Jan 2013 (Forum)
My Sister travelled the 100miles by Train to collect the car and when she got there the dealer wouldn't let her take the car away unless she signed a letter waiving her rights to any further warranty claim. As my Sister is the sole carer for my other (wheelchair confined) Sister, and my elderly Mother, she reluctantly signed and drove off. -
Looking for cheap reliable Japanese car for my gf 14 Jan 2018 (Forum)
However this is not what you here from garages and people from the RAC who come to tow your car! I think they may only look at within warranty failures etc. We need a car which will go on for a while without too much trouble. Thanks in advance -
Nissan Juke Suzuki Vitara - New Car Time. Juke or Vitara 23 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Anything from new to 3 years old Depending in prices . Probably rather buy new at around 14k than 1 year old at 12.5. No need to think about why car was sold. Get full 3 years warranty. Looking to keep the car long term. I,m wondering if the Nissan 1.2 engine with turbo is likely to be reliable or the 1.6 non turbo Vitara might be a better bet. -
New year, new car 9 Dec 2021 (Forum)
Does not seem as well regarded by the press but owners seem to love them. All 4 have good warranties, Hyundai 5 years, Kia 7 years and the Toyota and Lexus 10 years. A bit immaterial since we only intend to keep 4 years but it must be an advantage selling a car with warranty left. Obviously need to view and drive but is it best to forget this lot and simply buy a Skoda Scala 1.5 TSi Dsg SE-L at £19900 OTR. -
Most - Let the sun shine on in! 20 Sep 2018 (Forum)
For my new car there was no factory sunroof option, and anyway when I purchased the car the dealer had a special offer, a new car laden with lots of useful toys nearly 40% off list price - and that’s also important to me too. -
Sensible Car up to about £3000 28 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Criteria are: smallish, reliable, cheap to run, not too ancient, power steering (something the current car lacks), comfortable for driver and 11-year-old daughter, and likely to survive being used for frequent short journeys. Her previous car was an Escort, and she doesn't want anything larger than that, so there's probably no point in recommending Mondeo-sized vehicles without a compelling argument to persuade her that such cars aren't significantly harder to drive and park than superminis.
