Mazda 3 1.6 TDCI - After engine change - immobiliser on. 8 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The old engine had run on its own oil and was shot. I bought a 2008 fiesta 1.6 engine, swapped my loom and ecu, clutch, starter and sensors over but left the fiesta injector pump on it as it has much lower mileage. After putting it all together, it wont even turn over and the immobiliser light is flashing. -
Citroen C5 - Antipollution fault - Cylinder Reference Sensor 5 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Car uplifted by local dealers and they tell me that the diagnostics are showing a Cylinder Reference Sensor as being faulty. Could this be connected to a botched up repair on the ECU (removed from car to be sent for refurbishment, and lost by carriers) which was done in March? How much is this likely to cost me? Any pointers would be much appreciated. Bob -
'New' Galaxy 2.0 TDCi - Galaxy (56) Trip Computer Buttons 19 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Could simply be the buttons are wearing out, but the consistent behaviour makes me think that this may be a software problem - maybe the ECU is busy looking after something else that is also wearing out? Any thoughts appreciated Thanks -
Fastest production model Jaguar 3 May 2009 (Forum)
Just received a copy of a glossy magazine/brochure produced by my local Jaguar dealer; as well as an invitation to replace my XJ ;-) One interesting article in there is about the fastest production model Jaguar, the record being set 17 years ago by Martin Brundle in an XJ 220 at 217.1mph. On 12th Jan. 2009 an XFR with no changes other than a remapped ECU, modified intake and exhaust system, and revised supercharger settings achieved 225.675mph at Bonneville Salt Flats. Even the auto gearbox and ratios were standard. Kevin... -
Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 2001 1.4 16v Engine Management Codes 12 Jan 2009 (Forum)

The ECU light > came on and two codes are showing:- 201 Polluntant & 202 Cat error. The > Lambna sensors on the cat are fine and the exhaust gases are normal. Any > ideas please what the two codes refer to and how to clear them. -
Ford Cougar (1998 - 2000) - 99 2.5 Low rev misfire - high rev battery light ! 3 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The car then drives fine up to about 5,000 when the battery light comes on. There are no fault codes logged in the ecu. Anyone got any ideas before I spend any more cash swapping out the battery? -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - remote central locking - possibly a handy tip 25 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I have tried various "fixes" to no avail, but this worked for me. Disconnect the green connector on the driver's side near the ECU. Start the car and drive the car for approx 30 minutes. At the end of the drive with the engine still running reconnect the green connector. Turn off the engine, remove the key and try locking the car remotely. -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - gti180 engine specific data please 6 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Also does it use the normal peugeot type 60-2 crank position sensor? A friend wants one wiring into a project car but the standard ecu is out of the equation due to the multiplex issues. Thanks -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - '96 1.25l 16v Zetec, MOT Fail - emissions.. 17 Aug 2007 (Forum)
If I were to fit my own new lambda, would disconnecting the battery for an hour or two "reset" the ECU, and therefore have erased the fault code, and hopefully help me through a retest? Many thanks, Karl. -
Read on, MkV Golf owners 8 Jul 2007 (Forum)
While he was in, I had asked them to look at a slight stutter on accelerating, mainly through second gear. Apparently there is an ECU update for the tdi, to correct what they called 'rough running'. This has now been done to my car, and it's like driving a totally different car! It's much smoother, and much quieter. I wouldn't have believed one small tweak to a computer could make such a difference, but I definitely love Gunther again now! -
Nissan Almera throttle damping 29 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I appreciate some damping is necessary for emmission control, but are all Almeras like this, and can it be changed? As it's 'drive by wire' I presume any change would be by software to the ECU maybe? Has anyone any information or advice please? -
Emissions Quick Fix - 1999 VW Golf 26 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi Im having emission problems with a 99 golf. Brought it to fuel injection/emissions specialist. Was charged £1250 to replace ecu, map sensor, O2 sensor and CAT. Worked ok for a few days but has failed MOT again on emissions. CO of 0.78 (allowable is 0.3). Any ideas on the cause? The garage are claiming that the problem is that there is some oil getting into the system ('car is running a bit smokey'). and that the stuff the replaced is 100%. -
95 Mondeo 1.8 Zetec timing 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Due to persistent pinking not cured by various attempts by DIY, main dealer and independent (fuel filter, vacuum leak checks, new air mass meter, new EGR valve, new ECU! etc) the next step is going to be to check the timing. However Ford have said that they no longer sell tools and the manufacturers approached so far do not supply one for locking the crankshaft in position on the Zetec engine. -
Mk3 cavalier non start 25 Oct 2005 (Forum)
There is no spark, the crank sensor tests ok, the coil tests ok, there is power to the coil and ignition amplifier, all the evidence is pointing to a engine ECU fault but i was just wondering if anyone had the same problem and cured it? -

vw diesel problems 30 May 2005 (Forum)
Just had a diagnostic test done on my 99 polo sdi diesel. It has 2 stored faults, 1 suspect ecu and 2 suspect injector pump. Total = £1800. I spoke to the fitter halfway through the test and he said the diesel temperature sensor looked to be at fault, my problem is how do you get into the pump to change it since it has security screws fitted as well as the torx screws. -
BMW 320i E36 questions? 27 Apr 2005 (Forum)
1. would a 1994/95 E36 320i have belt or chain cam drive? 2. If upgrading to 2.5/2.8, is everything except the ECU the same? 3. Will an E46 320/323/325/328 engine transplant easily? I'm trying to find out whether its worth buying a cheap 320i that needs a replacment engine. -- Neil T Mondeo Ghia TDCi 130 Estate, SEAT Toledo 20VT Sport, Various Montegos... -
Idle problem with Rover 114 auto 23 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The problem is with the idle speed: it either ticks over too quickly, or not at all. I have changed the temp sensor to the ECU, but the fault\'s still there. Any one out there got any suggestions as to what it could be? All ideas are gratefully received. Many thanks Clown Doctor. -
Jump starting 4 Aug 2004 (Forum)
In yesterday's Telegraph, HJ wrote the following in response to a question about jump starting: 'Connect the starter car's positive battery terminal to that of the stricken vehicle, then attach the former's negative terminal to a metal earthing point on the latter. Linking both cables battery to battery might cause ECU damage.' Does this rule apply to all modern cars? Is the positive/negative earth thing irrelevant now as all cars are the same? Is it still OK to attach battery charger leads directly to the battery terminals, or do similar rules as for jump starting apply?
