  • Volkswagen Golf - VW Golf MK 6 Diesel 140 GT TDI clutch problem 6 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I stated that if that was the case, how could they determine that it was my fault when I've only had the car for five months having covered less then 4000 miles....Being the second owner etc..I'm due to take the car back on the 4th October, I'm beginning to think already that there going to find no mechanical fault and that I'm going to have a bill for almost a thousand pounds for a car I've had for five months!
  • Damage only, 3rd party delaying/disputing 5 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hi all, back in April, whilst coming home from my nanas funeral, a car overtook a row of parked cars and smashed my mirror. Anyway, we made after her and forced her to stop. She kept changing her story and I pointed out my in car CCTV. I reported it to my insurance and the police.
  • Daewoo Matiz - Cracked Windscreen 16 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Cracks in the windscreen do not just suddenly materialise and I am certain something was dropped on it. He told me that I should check my insurance to see if I have windscreen cover/ excess. I assumed that seeing as the crack occurred on his premises, while the car was in his care, he would just replace it especially as I had just forked out almost £400 for the MOT. Surely, I should not be expected to cover the costs through my insurance?
  • Nissan Bluebird (1986 - 1990) - Anything bad to look out for? 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I can't remember the last time I saw one on the road! Grandad has owned the car from new and it has only covered 40k miles. It's just passed its MOT for another year and has service history. Friend has asked me to give it the once over for him, and I should be able to cover most bases, however I was wondering if any BR contributors have any specific experience of this model as I've never dealt with one before.
  • Car insurance - incorrect details 14 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I am of the opinion that, although he accidently entered incorrect details and he requested cover for a provisional driving licence, that is the cover that his insurer quoted for and was happy to provide. He did not set out to deceive anyone and should he have had to make a claim during those 12 months (thankfully he didn't), he would not have been covered.
  • best used car mag ? 9 Nov 2001 (Forum)
This mag covered every angle in the used car game, great stories about car dealers antics, mystery shoppers visiting showrooms unveiling scandulous selling scams. I'm not aware of any other used car mags on the market but it seems strange considering the used car business is far larger than the new car market.
  • form of assignment and agreement 2 Feb 2016 (Forum)
It now refers to third party as "the unisured driver" and states that her company will pay for my repairs and then persue her for the fees. I am a little confused: It states the fee covers repairs but there is no mention of hire car, when details were checked on the day it seemed the lady was insured. She seemed very genuine and I would hate to do something that led to her having unnecessary agro or cost but obviously my compant are waiting to be paid.
  • Toyota Avensis, Honda Accord - Auto Avensis, Accord or something else for <£3k 12 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Oh yes, and it must be automatic. I am planning to keep the car until it runs out of steam completely so am not worried too much about resale value. So far, I am thinking of buying a large engined petrol and then converting it to LPG after a few months. That will help me spread the initial cost and also see if I like the car before spending dough on the conversion.
  • MINI Cooper and Cooper S - mini cooper camshaft sensor failed 21 May 2013 (Forum)
I agreed for them to clean it up and place a sensor on the block. if it failed again i would pay if it worked the sensor should  be covered by the warraanty I would still pay for rocker cover and remedial work. On arriving to pick up car I found they had cleaned and removed the rust but not put a new sensor on stating it a waste of time but still requested £105 for work carried out even though the work was carried out on basis of sensor being fitted I have offered to pay for sensor and if it doers not fail after 10 weeks have asked them to honour the warranty then and give me a refund. they refused.
  • Mondeo - Incident Alighting Taxi 17 Oct 2011 (Forum)
There wasn't passing traffic, presumably the lights had just been changing, but I manged to just clip the door mirror of a passing car.  No body work damage to the passing car, but a big dent in the Mondeo door. The taxi driver is now looking to me to cover all of the repair costs and loss of earnings, which could be well over £1,000.
  • Dandy Highwaymen? 28 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Anyhoo, the dismantling and cleaning of the carb seems to have stopped it roaring from cold (the main thing that was annoying me) and the car is running okay (touch wood). I'm going to do all the other stuff myself - dizzy cap, rocker cover gasket etc. But the inlet manifold looks a bit tougher - what with all those vacuum hoses I'm loathed to remove the carb myself.
  • Cheeky admiral 21 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I recently renewed my car insurance with admiral, this is the third year running they have given me the best deal, and until now have found them quite good. They quoted for renewal as per usual and tried to sell me additional breakdown cover etc as per normal.
  • Fiesta watery oil 1 Apr 2002 (Forum)
And a mechianic friend tasted the residue and said it isn't coolng fluid as it wasn't sweet (which anti-freeze apparently is). I'm now aware that the emulsion also builds up on the inside top of the rocker cover, so my quick paintbrush clean has to be supplemented occassionally by cleaning that out too. She does about 4 miles a day in the car to go to work, 2 miles there and two miles back. I know there is significant risk in this, and longer journeys would cause any water in the oil to be evaporated.
  • Ford Fiesta 2014 zetec - FIESTA radio stopped working 11 Aug 2017 (Forum)
The Ford radio picture is there when you press the on button but absolutely nothing else. None of the buttons do anything when pressed.  Do these cars still have a code? Also is it covered on the warranty?  Many thanks
  • Daimler Double Six - Export specifications 14 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I'm in the market for a late model Daimler Double Six ( series 3 ( 6.0L ), and have seen a couple of re-imports of Japanese cars, ( which have the advantage of being RHD ).  There's  a Haynes owners manual that covers the American export model, but I can't seem to find any specification info for the Japanese export model.
  • AUDI TT 2.0 LITRE PETROL ROADSTER 2009 REG - When does the cam belt need changing? 30 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I have been advised by the Audi Dealership that the cam belt needs changing after 5 years old - the car has covered approximately 23000 miles, mainly short journeys around town.
  • KIA cee'd - Malfunction Indicator Light 13 Jan 2014 (Forum)
My malfunction Indicator lamp suddenly came on the other evening and when reading the handbook it indicated it could be a fault in the engine emisson system and to get the vehicle checked by Kia dealer.  Has anybody else experienced this problem and if so what was the outcome.  The car is now with a Kia dealer andI am assured that the fault will be covered by the 7 year warranty.
  • Subaru Legacy and Outback Petrol (2004 - 2009) - Door mirror/indication unit 15 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I had a small accident with a tree falling on my car and subsequently have a broken lens cover on the n/s door mirror indication unit. Will I have to replace the whole unit or can the window/lens be replaced. If replacing the whole door mirror is this a straightforward job?
  • Ford mondeo- washer jet 26 May 2006 (Forum)
I investigated the cause and it turns out that the water in the rear seems to be collecting in the boot rather than washing the screen. Now would you expect this to be covered under warranty on a 16month old car? Ford seem to say no, I think its a design flaw. Anyone else had a similar issue?
  • Nissan Almera gearbox 29 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The gearbox on SWMBO's 2000-reg Nissan Almera (1.4 petrol)has just packed in: 1. What would have caused it to go so soon? The car has covered 62,000 miles. 2. When replacing the gearbox, would it also be prudent to change the clutch? I'm wondering if changing the clutch while changing the gearbox would only add the price of a clutch to the total cost of the job?
