  On opening bonnet, coolant level normal (was replaced recently), belt ok and pump ok (not hot and no leaks). Decided to continue and complete remaining 40 miles of journey. During, temperature guage normal, but warning light blinking on and off the whole way (most unnerving!)

  No steam or other smoke, coolant remains in overflow tank did not have any oil in them and no mayonnaise on filler cap or stick. Got the car towed to a Toyota dealer in Slough and will find out on Friday what the problem is. If its not too bad and driveable I will take it to a Toyota specialist nearby but am I on the right path ?

  I saw a carina today but have two questions. 1. The coolant is black. Is this normal on a petrol 2.0 2. The top of the oil filler cap has some sludgy black deposit. Again, is this normal. Please help. Gregory

  In the end i paid 600 which included for some parts and fluids. when I got the car back he told me that the coolant pressure cap was damaged when he removed it and he would have replaced it but he didn't have one, so at some point I should get a new one. After having the car back for 5 days, while driving down the motorway the coolant hose connection to the. radiator came off and the engine dropped the coolant.

  The 2013 Hyundai i10 seems normal with no warning lights on the dashboard, despite having only a small amount of engine oil in the dipstick, empty brake fluid tanks, and empty coolant tanks.  Why is that?  What should I do next?

   Then got worse - engine temp fluctuations (though it's never overheated yet), cold air through the heater, coolant vanishing but no leak, misfires from a cold start, etc. The guys at the garage checked it out and deemed it a head gasket failure - the give away was bubbles coming through the coolant at the radioator cap when the engine was started with the cap removed.

  Took a ten minute trip not going any more than 40mph and noticed that the car seemed to be over heating (no lights came on just noticed dial was reading hotter than usual). When i had a look i couldnt see coolant level clearly but could hear a slight hissing noise. Popped into local halfords and they wasnt very helpful so i drove home with my heating on full blast trying not to let it get too hot. After it all cooled down I added some water/anti freeze and it drunk about a litre and a half, obviously loosing water somewhere.
