  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - More expensive to change cambelt in France than UK 23 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Talk about Rip off Britain Just looked up the cost of the cambelt and water pump change for my 130 TDI passat in France. Total cost = ?877 (including TTC(VAT)) at the local VW dealer in the Charente!! Checked with Gilbert Lawton in Manchester, they quoted £395 plus £30 for the water pump including VAT. No prizes for guessing where it will get done!
  • Bank Hols in France 10 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Just got back from Easter weekend in France. Motorways empty, towns and villages virtually empty......Pont de Normandy looking fantastic in the mist. Omaha Beach landings, Pegasus Bridge, Pointe du Hoc, Colville American cemetary, Longues sur Mer gun battery, Ste Maire Eglise....all approachable, easy parking.
  • Experimental traffic law in France.. 13 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I've just got back from a couple of weeks working on reducing the Wine Lake. Anyone going to France from 30 October (I assume that's when the clocks go back) should be aware that for an experimental 6 month period they will be insisting you drive on dipped headlights at all times. Motorcyclists are not amused as this will make them less obvious but they look like going the way of the Nordic countries after an experiment in Les Landes prooved encouraging.
  • France via Eurotunnel 7 Oct 2004 (Forum)
How busy are Eurotunnel? £100 extra seems a bit steep! And, obviously, any suggestion as to how to negotiate France and the centre of Paris would be greatly appreciated!
  • Formule 1 hotels in France? 4 May 2013 (Forum)
I'm taking a friend of mine on a road trip of sorts towards the end of next month - we intend to get a Ferry to France, drive over to the Nurburgring for a day or so, and then spend the next week or so having a poke around Switzerland and France, hopefully taking in Nice. Now, in true student fashion, it's intended to be quite random.
  • Going to France on a Ferry Query? 31 Oct 2013 (Forum)

  • Crit'air stickers france - Scam sites 19 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Be very careful if you go to get a crit-air sticker, like the british gov sites, there are some convincing copies, one of which charges 29.75 euros.....
  • Driving in France? you may need this ..... 28 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Planning to drive in France? You may need a clean air sticker for your car .... the current fine for non compliance is up to €135, being refused permission to drive the car will be a much greater problem. Stickers may be purchased on this web site ...
  • Honda CRV - Speedo KPH 13 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I am bringing in from France a CRV 2.2 dti and have been alarmed at the complexity of what should be a simple process as all recent vehicles are covered under the Europe wide Certificate of Conformity. A CRV from France is the same as a CRV from the UK infact they are both manufactured at Swindon!
  • The deep joy of driving in France! 12 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Very comfy, well run, only £68 return (which was £100 cheaper than P&O/Sea France/Euro Tunnel for same times of travel)
  • Help, please, re accident in France 27 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The paperwork is, of course, in French so the first thing they have to do is to get it translated and then, I suppose, find an appropriate Lawyer...perhaps their Insurance Company or Motoring Organisation can help. Any other suggestions, please? I thought the rule in France was that one gives way to traffic joining from the right.
  • a year in France - with/without UK car? 29 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I have a problem. Planning to go and live in France for a year and wonder what to do with our car. Ideally I want to keep it for the next three years. It is a Toyota Avensis Estate R reg 80K worth £4k? and it does everything I want from a car. Do I?
  • Brexiter to build Land Rover successor in France 16 Jan 2021 (Forum)
"..... billionaire Jim Ratcliffe moved to Monaco while also deciding to build his Land Rover successor in France instead of Wales – all after supporting Brexit. "  (Private Eye) I respect people who voted either Leave or Remain, but it is disappointing those businessmen who supported Brexit,  such as Mr Jim Ratcliffe, who should be supporting Britain are instead deciding to invest their money in other countries.
  • buying a used car in France 4 May 2006 (Forum)
When I buy a second hand car off a bloke in France, usually presumably, like UK, I would fill out my Name and address on the registration form and send it off to French DVLA.... But as a UK resident, would I put or give the seller my UK address?
  • Ferry Roure ? 4 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Looking at next years holiday and the Britanny coast in June is favourite.Which route in France is the easiest to navigate? St Malo to Britanny or Roscoff to Britanny? As i live in Taunton, Plymouth to Roscoff appears the easiest all be it a 6 and a half hour crossing.Just a bit dubious about the Navigating in France.

  • Steering pull on new Renault Scenic 24 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I took delivery of a new Renault Grand Scenic 1.9 Dci and drove immediately to France. In England the steering was fine. In France on their cambered roads it pulls to the right. Two dealers cannot find a problem with the geometry. Any ideas? Sorerightarm
  • Driving Down Through France 11 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Next Summer we are planning to drive down to the Perpignon area from the channel ports. We know to avoid the first week in August as all of France is on the road then. If was looking for advice on the following points :- 1) I estimate it is about 750-800 miles, is this feasible to do in 2 days, given that I have to think of my wife and 9 year old ?
