Hi, i'm about to borrow about £8000 towards our next car, i am self employed and was wondering if it makes a difference to how much you can claim back, wether i take out a personnal loan or have straight hp with the dealer. On £8K the total amount of interest payable is £963pounds, and going with dealer finance its £1220 interest. I am not vat registered. thanks.
  • MG 4 EV - Finance showing against VRM - but no Finance had 27 Nov 2022 (Forum)
Seriously considering going to the FCA or the like with this as it is so badly managed by Santander, they should be Financing the VIN not the VRM. Plates can and are changed across vehicles all the time, the finance should not be following it ! Thanks Dean
  • Personal loan vs Car finance 12 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I wasn't certain I understood this correctly. Car being secured against the loan -> does this mean if the car were stolen, the finance company would consider that and write off my loan, meaning I wouldn't have to pay it all back? Is this true? What is the advantage of the car finance over a personal loan ? Are there any other things to be considered here ?
  • Finance/HP questons 8 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I'm also assuming you will be in negative equity in the vehcile value, you owe, for example, £1,500 and the value of the car will be around £1,000, is the balance re-financed to your new car?
  • VW - Early settlement of PCP finance 8 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Is the owner entitled in law to see the detailed breakdown of the Interest Rebate calculation ? I'm planning to settle the PCP on my VW Touareg early and VW Finance's settlement just shows the total of the Interest Rebated, despite my requesting the detail - as the amount is several £100s lower than my calculated amount, I want to reconcile the difference before settling.
  • Finance question 26 Sep 2023 (Forum)
Hey ,I'm quite unsure when it comes to things like this so looking for some advice. I currently have my car of finance and I have seen another car I am really interested in. The car in question. I have been in touch with the garage and they have told me that they don't do part exchange so wouldn't look at my car. .
  • PX - Will the dealer test drive? 3 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I am part exchanging my 2 series for another car which is worth atleast 1.5k more than the 2 series. My finance company is paying the dealer the full amount for the car I will be purchasing and the dealer will be sending my finance company the funds to settle my finance on my 2 series.  Am I right in saying the dealer will usually test drive the car to value the vehicle to reach an offer.
  • use the dealer's finance - discount off price? 23 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Respected dealer chain, shiny floor, I like them and have used them before.   Car is £9000 and I'm going to finance about £6000.  If I use the dealer's finance, I know he makes money on that, fair enough, so what room have I got to bring the sticker price down?  Tiny bit?  Or loads? By the way, I notice yet again that Parkers guide is ridiculously out.

apparently he incures a charge - and any talk of paying of a few days/weeks after doing the deal - makes him lose his commission. when i worked at hyundai - we rarely did finance so its something new to me.
  • SEAT Ibiza III (2002 - 2008) - Finance 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I have enough to cover insurance and the first £1k, should I try to get the extra and then go for a car or wait until I find a car then go for the finance? Thanks, Luke.
  • Is this a valid way of thinking about car finance? 8 Sep 2022 (Forum)
I am buying a new car and ordered it some months ago when the APR on the Personal Contract Plan (PCP)  finance package was 4.9%. That was locked in and will be the rate I pay for the next 3 years if I go ahead with the finance option when the car arrives in a few weeks after the long delivery lead time.  Obviously 4.9% is less than the rate of.inflation is at the moment and for the foreseeable future.
  • Ford S Max - Finance or not 20 Jul 2020 (Forum)
The choice is to go to an independent dealer and part ex my current car and use a no interest credit card to purchase an older model (2010 being max age) with reasonably high mileage or go to a Ford Dealer and get a newer one on finance. I can’t work out if the interest id be paying on finance is worth the added security which will come from having a newer car, with less miles from a main dealership Compared to getting an older model which I own outright.
  • Volkswagen Golf - Car Finance - Best Options? 10 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I'm likely to need a new car before a house (as I'm not sure on area etc. yet and may buy at the end of the year or next year).  Ideally I would buy a house before, assess finances, and then buy a car. However, I'm likely not going to be in this position till the end of the year.  Would you recommend total financing (which will affect mortgage loan) or put a chunk of current mortgage savings in to buying a car and try to get an interest free car loan if any good ones are about?

Is it worth calling the finance company and telling them that I'll cancel my Direct Debits until the problems are sorted or is this a no-no?
  • KIA Rio - Lead to apply for finance on a car that was sold 28 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Today i called the dealer as i hadnt heared anything, only to be told that the car i applied for was sold on saturday, A DAY BEFORE i even applied for the finance. This was the only SR7 in the company and the dealer is now looking for alternative options. The issue is that whatever he come back with, cheaper or not, it isnt going to be the SR7 trim which is the only reason i applied for the finance.
  • Finance PCP - Total Loss Cat N 16 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I chose to retain salvage of the vehicle as I believe it can be fixed pretty easily. Once it has been fixed and passed its MOT; do I legally have to inform my finance company or do I just continue my monthly payments as normal?   I do understand that at the end of the contract agreement the car will be worth substantially less as it has been declared a cat N.
  • Anyone buy on finance and return it after 3 years? 31 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Hi Looking at whether its worth me doing the type of deals where you buy a car on finance for 3 years, and then return it to them. Cars I am considering inc Suzuki Vitara - as they are doing 0% credit. I currently drive a old Pajero - done me well, but thinking now I fancy a nice bit of creature comforts and wondered if anyone does what I am thinking.
  • Finance Insurance 14 Mar 2001 (Forum)
I have just realised that my car insurance policy does not include additional cover for any outstanding finance should it be written off. My previous insurer did, but in an effort to save money i forgot this when comparing quotes. My new insurer does not offer this option. Does anyone know if I can get cover for this item alone?

Why doesn't anyone want to take responsibility for their own actions anymore? It's always someone else and something should be done about it: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-your-money-48776454...
