  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.8 What is the correct battery spec? 17 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Trying to work out the correct battery spec for my Focus 56 plate 1.8 TDCi. The original Ford one is rated 80Ah. Spoke to Ford who say that it is not covered under warranty and they listed 4 different types. The most expensive being the 80Ah one at about £140. Must I use exactly the same rating and is calcium type battery critical? I believe Varta do a Blue and Silver range and Bosch do a Silver range, but havent a clue if they are equivalent to calcium.
  • Suzuki Swift (2005 - ) - 06 1.5 Petrol leaking out of the filler cap 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
They say they have never seen anything like this before and are saying that it could take a few days to diagnose what is causing the problem. I have to drop it off with a full tank and that they would probably use a great deal of it in determining what is wrong. I still have ten days left of the Suzuki warranty but I am posting on here for advice as I have phoned around a number of garages and none seem to have a clue what it could be, and I am worried that I may have to pay labour charges if they can't find what is causing the problem.
  • Any CR-V owners / feedback? 22 May 2007 (Forum)
(I want to keep the mpv / high seating position). I am a bit wary of keeping the Scenic as it will be out of warranty and with all the electric gizmos it has as well as the EGR problems it can have (mine has been used for a lot of stop/start journeys which has potential for trouble) Any CR-V owners out there with any feedback / thoughts on the matter?
  • Vectra vs Mondeo 30 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I've always preferred Fords over Vauxhall (for no real logical reason) but these seem such a good deal I'm seriously tempted, but something is holding me back. Here's the pros & cons as I see it over the 01'Mondeo 2.0 Ghia I want:- Pros 17 months warranty remaining Considerably younger, lower mileage car Lower insurance costs (group 7 vs 10) Better fuel economy? Cons Lack of grunt from 1.8? Not as much fun through the corners Fewer toys to play with (though it does have cruise over the M) 1st service not yet been performed so due imminently Help I can't decide what to do!

  • Am i paranoid about oil changes 30 May 2004 (Forum)
This is the important part, I start my car up from cold three times a week we are very rarely out long enough for the engine to get cold so it does not get a second cold start. In a year I start my car from cold 52x3 = 156 times My total mileage is about 3500 per year Mr Average Working Guy Starts his car up from cold to go to work finishes work starts his car up from cold again to go home.
  • Toyota RAV4 - Advice on Part-Exchanging My 2008 Honda CR-V for a 24 Aug 2024 (Forum)
Hi all!  We're in the process of buying our first second-hand car and could really use some advice. We've put down a refundable deposit on a 2017 Toyota RAV4 2.5 VVT-i Excel AWD with 48,000 miles on the clock (in grey). The car is priced at £17,500. We visited the dealer to inspect the car and found a few issues: - There are some chips and paintwork problems, plus a bit of rust on the metal step to get into the car.
  • Honda Jazz 2016 - Starting problem - Battery / charging system 30 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Problem: I attempted to start the car after work and it took about 7-8 seconds of cranking to start. The car in question is a Honda Jazz 1.3 petrol. Background: The car was driven to work over 50miles on the motorway and was parked for 9 hours and seems struggling to start.

  • Ford Focus - how to sell faulty car 24 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi, my car Turbo is damaged and costs £1000 to fix it. it is a second hand car and I have spent a lot on it already for repairs. my car warranty company inspected the turbo and said it is damaged due to oil flow interruption to the turbo and since it is not a mechanical failure, they won't pay for it.
  • Audi TT (51 Plate Reg 2002) - Second Hand Car Purc 7 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Here is a timeline of events (apologies for length!):  - Car purchased Feb 9th, day of purchase front wiper motor fails rendering the car unsafe to use.  Contact dealer immediately who offers (lengthy conversation) to let me take the car to a garage (on a dry day) and get it repaired.
  • Audi TT (51 Plate Reg 2002) - Second Hand Car Purchase From Trader 6 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Dealer refused, has said he will re-repair but refuses to rectify issues present at the point of sale, and keeps telling me to go through warranty. Warranty have said they will not do work as the liability is with the dealer! As a comprimise before court action I suggested the following: Repair car against issues mentioned above to bring the car up to a roadworthy and safe standard, and MOT to prove roadworthyness.
  • Rot In Peace, Peykan 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Conventional wisdom was that every Peykan owner had to fix all the faults himself, after which the car ran fine. Which proved to be the case. With the Shah gone and my position at some risk as the Revolution gained momentum, I was hauled out to Bahrain. No US auditor wanted to come to Iran at that time to check all the assets, so I gave the car away to Youssef.
  • Ford Focus ST - Stalling Issue 6 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I looked at Honest John car reviews that said there was a problem with this model stalling. I did a search on internet and found pages of complaining owners with the same problem. So I booked my car in with a dealership under warranty.
  • SEAT Toledo - My new car 17 Sep 2018 (Forum)
A family member has just taken ownership of a 2015 Fabia and I was frustrated to see how easy it was to update both the maps, and system firmware, using the online Skoda portal. This free service is attached to the car for 3 years and is available for SEAT in Europe! Warranty – The SEAT warranty is equivalent to the Skoda new car warranty (3 years / 60K miles), but I was disappointed to see the breakdown cover only applies for 2 years, whereas it is 3 years for a Skoda.
  • Best SUV/4x4? 20 May 2016 (Forum)
However it's also out of warranty next year and it's always been on my mind to move it on then as I'm wary (without any justification I may add) of big repair/servicing bills when it's out of warranty.  I have had a couple of niggles with it, nothing major, with the biggest pain being to get the dealer to have a look at it within 3 weeks!
  • Passat Turbo Exploded 30 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Reason should be apparant in one or more of the posts subsequently made by chasman below. DD} Dear John, I have a VW Passatt TDI 130 bhp (or used to!) At just over 100,000 miles there was loss of power which was caused by turbo failure. This was rectified by the local VW dealer (turbo boost valve) who was not prepared to offer a sympathetic warranty despite it being only 4000 miles over the warranty.
  • Audi SQ5 - Legal advice- issue with Audi SQ5 from main dealer 11 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I was, however, assured that it should be OK to make the return journey. On returning home, the car was immediately taken to my local Audi dealership (Audi Roadside Assist had booked it in for me in advance), who gave me a courtesy car to use in the meantime, as my newly purchased car is still under manufacturer's warranty.
  • Hyundai ix20 - What cars will take a 44ins wide load? 30 Sep 2014 (Forum)
The good thing is the ix20/Venga are available with a proper auto box (no horrible automated manual for us), the bad thing is it isn't big enough to tow our caravan. So OK as a replacement for Mrs SDA's ageing Yaris Verso but the search goes on for a 44ins wide tow car.
  • MINI MINI One R50 (2001 - 2007) - 06 1.6 Con Rod Failure 16 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Bought from a main dealer with 14k miles and FSH. Serviced by them since and now has 26k miles. The car goes to and from the kids schools, shops etc - usual local mileage, no racing, mods or anything silly. Went out of warranty in May but we decided not to renew because what could possibly go wrong on a car of this age, mileage, use etc!!
