  • Hidden Heroes: Alfa Romeo 147 2.0 Twin Spark 6 Dec 2019 (News)
.  It came at a time when Alfa was on a roll, with the build quality and dynamics of its cars matching their handsome looks, while keen pricing made the 147 a viable alternative to mainstream hatches such as the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra as well as more obvious rivals such as the Audi A3. The bulk of sales went to the 1.6 Twin Spark - with 120bhp, it was livelier than most 1.6s on the market at the time and it was keenly priced, too. Fleet buyers, meanwhile, contented themselves with the JTD diesels, which were admirable enough performers while still enjoying the 147’s fabulous looks.

  • Fiat Panda scores zero stars in latest Euro NCAP safety tests 5 Dec 2018 (News)
Fiat says: "We take the safety of customers and road users extremely seriously and the Fiat panda and latest Jeep Wrangler comply with all safety legislation in every county in which they are sold."  In other tests, the new Audi Q3, BMW X5, Hyundai Santa Fe, Jaguar I-Pace and Peugeot 508 were all awarded five star ratings along with the Volvo V60 and S60. But even those were not without issues. The crash tests on the Hyundai Santa Fe highlighted an issue where the side curtain airbags of cars equipped with a panoramic roof could be torn during deployment.

  • Skoda Octavia vRS TDI (2006-) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
That changed in 2006 though when Skoda added a TDI option to the line up. The engine was the trusty 2.0 TDI Pumpe Duse (PD) which was used across the Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Skoda ranges and even made its way into oddball stuff like the Dodge Caliber. The Octavia vRS got the 170PS version of the TDI engine (rather than the more commonly used 140PS) and although it has 30PS less than the petrol TSI version, it has 70Nm more torque.
  • Focus On: Volks Autos 4 Feb 2016 (News)

  • One-off Daewoo Musiro concept car comes up for sale 30 Apr 2015 (News)
The Musiro’s reveal at the 2000 British Motor Show proved to the world that Daewoo was capable of so much more than producing cheap and cheerless hatchbacks. It might have looked similar in concept and profile to the Audi TT of the time, but the Musiro showed real innovation in other ways. Its roof panels, for example, slid rearwards along the cant rails and were stacked vertically behind the rear seats when you fancied ‘going topless’ – ensuring that the Musiro lost none of its boot space.

  • Techno-Classica 2014 event report 31 Mar 2014 (News)
Germany-based AC was there with its impressive MkVI, while Alfa Romeo dug out some of its best exhibits from the Storico collection to mark the 60th anniversary of the Giulietta. Once again, our favourite 1980s Turbodelta model made an appearance. Audi put on a typically impressive show to mark '100 years of four rings in motor sport' - the Auto Union and 90 quattro IMSA cars were highlights of that.  BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce, teamed up with the clubs to put on a 20-car strong display that included delights as diverse as the original BMW-Dixi, BMW M1, and the new i8 hybrid supercar.
