  • BMW 1 series 118d M Sport Auto - House buying predicament 3 May 2018 (Forum)
April 29th this year I brought my BMW for cash as I had saved for the car I wanted (I wanted a auto BMW 1 series) I'm now having to make the very difficult decision whether to keep the BMW or P/X it for something more sensible like a Ford Fiesta Zetec S Black and get some cash back from it. This has got me thinking, has anybody else found themselves in my position?

  • Audi 80 - Audi 80 Master Cylinder Seal Grommet 17 Feb 2018 (Forum)
The old grommets I have for reference but I am not certain which diameter to measure as they narrow near the base bur have a larger centre diameter.  Car is an 88 1.8 S with NE engine code. None of the larger factors list them, a few places have suggested I need 22.2mm but the bore seems a bit smaller to me (approx. 19mm it looks like?) Will it say on my reservoir?   Thanks chaps, already ordered the wrong ones once..
  • Next car debate 1 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Audi's Quattro seems far superior to any other 4x4. Cars I have been looking at are a very mixed bag 1) MB S Class 2) BMW 7 series 3) BMW 5 GT Series 4) Audi A6 Avant 5) Audi A8 6) Lexus GS300h Yes I'm not asking for much lol. But for me what I'm looking to spend is a lot for me and I want to get the most for my money (as we all do)
  • n/a - Expats using UK driving licence. 22 Nov 2017 (Forum)
I noticed in the Telegraph motoring section "Car advice with Honest John"  Q & A 's Home internationals In the recent past it has been the case that expats adopt overseas driving licences. Is this still the case? NR Yes. You can't have a UK licence without a UK address for the very obvious reason that you couldn't be checked or penalised.
  • Peugeot 207 (2006 - ) - 07 1.4 Car Needs to be revved when starting! 3 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Hello, I have only had my peugeot 207 S for around 6 months, at first it was fine, but now, it wont seem to start by itself. I always have to press the gas to get the engine to start. The starter motor seems fine as the engine is turning over, but its asif the car is failing to squirt a little juice in and i have to do this manually with the peddle.
  • anything at all - Small hatchback - suggestions welcomed 11 Apr 2017 (Forum)
So, suggestions welcomed for a replacement. We'll be helping her out with the purchase, and want something that;s going to be as trouble-free as possible (we hope, obviously). Budget £3,000. Petrol, manual, hatchback with 5 doors. My wife would prefer something at 119 or lower CO2 (as that's then £30 or less tax per annum), but that's not an absolute essential.
  • Any - Enrolment Contract (Sixth Form College) 15 Feb 2017 (Forum)

  • Saab 9 3 - Exporting and Importing a Car 7 Feb 2017 (Forum)
The buyer will work with me but my only concern is VRT. If the car is brought back into N. Ireland, re registered, MOT's and Tax''s for the purpose of retention. and goes back to ROI, will the buyer need to pay the €1800 he paid originally? Thanks

  • Worthwhile? - Independent Car Inspection 1 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Guys/Girls I was hoping I could get some advice from anyone who has actually had a independent vehicle inspection carried out on his/her vehicle? I am thinking of buying an 2001 Alfa 156 (2.0 T.S), I have owned two 156's before. I would like to know whether or not you felt that the inspections were of benefit to you, i.e. Did they inspire any confidence, or would you use the inspector (AA, RAC or independent) again.
  • AURIS HYBRID - TOYOTA EXTENDED WARRANTY 29 May 2016 (Forum)
I would not buy one of these warranties ever again. However I have had an offer from Toyota to extend the manufacture`s warranty for 2 years at a cost of £516... this includes breakdown cover so the extra cost to me is somewhere in the region of £300-£350. On the surface this looks a good deal if the warranty is a good one and the terms and conditions are not silly.
  • Honda CR-V - Rare shock leak 6 Apr 2016 (Forum)
It appears they were least bothered with what I requested, did a basic service and on MOT reported as O/S/R Shock leaking. The service advisor, I guess Philip, gave a call back stating its replaced and told it costs around £350 for the shock. Later on, I told, have this extended warranty and was not charged.

  • Volkswagen Golf V - Turbo replacement?! 9 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Took the car to a VW main dealer to get diagnosed to prove issue with dealer - no joy with the dealer, but VW diagnosed a turbo problem. Ended up getting VW to sort the problem (new turbo £££'s), only to get it back a week later with the same issue (black smoke and hesitation). Car went back to them and I'm told that the engine had been remapped (black smoke solved) and had a fuel supply issue (hesitation solved)..
  • Lost control on roundabout 31 May 2015 (Forum)
I rang the local police, and they will check the road surface for oil etc. Any suggestions? The tyres are Khumo 7's, all new 1 month ago. I was driving as per usual. Could this be an issue with the car steering? Or the tyres? (Fakes maybe? There are three deep grooves running round the tyres, and side 'slots' which looks rather shallow.)
  • Fiesta 1.0T - Real MPG 22 Dec 2014 (Forum)
If there's some bright spark in Government reading this, what about doing every motorist a favour and ditch the Official MPG figures produced by manufacturers and replace them with HonestJohn's Real MPG? My old 2010 1.6 Zetec S offical figure was 48mpg, real world I'd see 44mpg at best. The 1.0T ecoboost I'm thinking of purchasing has an official figure of 65.7mpg but according to HJ I should expect little more than my 1.6  What is the point of producing offical mpg figures if they are so inaccurate?
