vw golf markIV stdi engine cut out 31 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have had acouple of local garages take a look and both say it is a problem with the fuel system. Sometimes the car runs like a dream and other times it feels really lumpy with no power. Any ideas gratefully received -
Vito 110cdi Pre Glow Light Stays on?? 22 Mar 2006 (Forum)
They informed me that they had to use a sledge hammer to remove the discs!! As soon as I went to collect it, the pre glow light would not extinguish... The van seems to be running fine, no loss of power etc. Could this be linked to whacking the discs with a sledge hammer or just coincidence?? Also, any hints/ tips.. I rang merc & they said it would either be the cable, relay or the plugs. -
Pug 306 oil leak near turbo 10 Mar 2006 (Forum)
It appears to be leaking from the lower bolt of the turbo, visible from underneath the car. It only leaks when the engine is running, resulting in a few drops when the car is parked up. I tried tightening this bolt in the past, but made little difference. I guess this is related to the oil feed for the turbo. Is the oil return fed back into the engine through the mating surfaces? -
Primera DCi estate - rubbish mpg or not? 23 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Trip computer, which I reset when I filled it up is saying almost exactly 40mpg which I reckon is simply poor. Not measured it manually yet but I will when I fill it up. Was hoping to see 45mpg on this run tbh. Question is, is this the going rate for this engine? If its abnormally low, what sort of things are common faults with ths engine to cause it? Car has had the recall work done apparently.. Thanks everyone -
VW 2001 Passat needle flicker 9 Feb 2006 (Forum)
It seems to be related to movement so I suspect its a connection somewhere that needs cleaning or re-making do you think this is correct? If so which side of the bulkhead is the connection likely to be and where do these cables run so I can follow and check them. Or taking a more sinister view is this a symptom of something else as I do recall previous posts on VW electrical faults where something doing something was actually a sign that something else alltogether was beginnging to fail. -
Omega 2.0 Eco, DOHC. Smoke in engine bay 15 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Unable to find exactly where fumes are from but looks to be in the direction of the EGR valve? The odd thing is that it will run OK for a short time then it?s as if something is letting go of pressure. That?s when the above happens? Any ideas? Please !!! Another quick question too if I may... There is what is described (in Haynes) as a cut off valve on the right side on the engine bay to the left of the power steering fluid reservoir. -

my tappets are noisy! 1989 Nissan Micra 8 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Helo everyone,i was hoping i can get some advice....... im new to the internet and having trouble finding a site that might list the valve clearances for my 1989 1.0 gsx nissan micra (87000 miles one previous owner no history) its not worth buying a haynes manual because its the only job i have to do that requires spec.Besides, the car was only £20, but i expect it to be a reliable a run-around seeing as it went straight through the mot after being stood still for a year outside(i only serviced the brakes before i took it down mot station) Its in real good condition other than the clearances needing doing.Im not expecting much power out of it but i do need to do this so can anyone tell me where/if i might find the spec? -
Brand New Car Damaged by Dealer 25 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Hi, Got my new car on Saturday, however, while checking it over last night I've noticed that the car has been jacked up, presumably by the dealer, without attention to the designated jacking points. As a result the seam that runs along the side of the floor-pan, underneath the car has been damaged (bent). Needless to say, the paint and sealer has been knocked off, exposing the metal. This was not a cheap car, and the manufacturer has a good name for reliability so I am aghast at the unprofessional behaviour of the garage. -
'Blocking' someones driveway 22 Nov 2005 (Forum)
It appreciate the backroom's opinion on this one. I usually do the school run by cycle, but occasionally use the car. The school is in a residential road (detatched houses) so the pick up involves parking outside the houses. There rare usually enough free spaces on the road, between each drive, but it I'm one of the last to arrive I'll park (still on the road) right outside one of the drives (drop kerb). -
Computer Related Questions - Volume 71 12 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Hello, I have got an FTP folder set up on a machine running Windows Server 2003 Std, I want to set up sub folders for external users and password them so external users can only access their own sub folder. At the moment I can access the FTP myself via ftp://192.XXX.XXX.XXX from any browser on any internet enabled PC however I am using the administrator password to do so. -
Which Diesel - yes inc Mondeo! 2 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I have also suggested he look at Laguna. Which Focus diesel is the best, which Astra and Mondeo diesel are the best? How does their running costs compare to each other? Will the Mondeo mpg be significantly more than the other 2? Probably does in excess of 20K a year so mpg will probably be the biggest cost factor. Any advice would be appreciated. -
1994 1.4 Golf Coolant Issues 28 Oct 2005 (Forum)
For some reason, despite about 6 litres coolant coming out when I emptied it, I can only get 2 litres back in?! I assumed an airlock and have run the engine up to operating temperature with the expansion cap off (the radiator started steaming and the cooling fan kicked in)but hasn't seemed to clear it? What do I do? I need to get more coolant in but I can't. -
Ford Focus - DIY pad change - uh oh! 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I was going to change them last time but seem to recall needing some caliper tool or something. So firstly - what do I need? Secondly, can somebody run through what to do please? I don't mind getting my hands dirty and I could have a good stab at it but with it being brakes, I want to get it right! Lastly, what pads should I get and where from? I don't want cheapo ones and if the more expensive ones mean better stopping power then so be it. -
M Reg Fiesta 1.1 burning oil 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I haven't looked too hard yet but I hadn't noticed clouds of black smoke when daughter pulls away. During elder daughter's ownership, it was run pretty dry of oil once. There is no oil in water, no water in oil as far as I can tell - head gasket was done about 2 years ago (3 maybe). What is the problem likely to be and how can I verify what it is? -
Audi 80 1995 2.0E, Which CV joint? 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I am sure a CV joint (perhaps joints) needs replacing as I am getting a distinct knocking noise on full lock whilst manoevering in the car park. Also a clattering/knocking noise on taking up drive and on the over run. I have looked under the car and the cv joint covers are all intact and everything else - suspension, tie rods and ball joints look fine. Outer driveshaft bolt and inner joints bolts checked for tightness. -
K reg Renault Clio - choke? 11 Oct 2005 (Forum)
It then ran ok for a couple of weeks, but for the last week has returned to doing this every morning and also in the evenings when I leave work. It runs fine when the engine is warm and I can drive it from cold ok - i just have to rev the hell out of it as I get going, which the neighbours don't appreciate at 6am in the morning!! Would I be right in thinking it is the automatic choke? -
flashing glow plug light Golf MK2 17 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Golf MK2 Diesel, running fine until today, went to start and Glow plug light came on briefly then started to flash, then went out. Had this once before 3yrs ago same car, cured problem by locating a broken connection. Flashing GP light seems to indicate fault on circuit - Anyone agree. -
Born again cyclist 16 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I am taking it seriously and intend to continue cycling through the winter, I have bought a set of lights, a high visibility jacket, a cycling helmet & a set of waterproofs. I am saving money on car running expenses, my car is safer left on my drive than parked on the street, I have lost 11 pounds in weight in 4 weeks, I feel healthier and my jurney to and from work takes only 5 minutes longer on a cycle than in the car. -
Volvo V70 vs back pain 31 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The seats I know to be ideal are in the new Volvo 4x4, the Toyota Landcruiser and the Lexus people carrier, but I can't afford either to buy or to run any of them. Has anyone else had to move from Volvo because of the re-design? I'd be very grateful for advice about spine-friendly alternatives. I'd be reluctant to move to a much smaller vehicle, although I use the full capacity of the Volvo only when I fill it with wine in France!
