  • Are French cars just converted LHD for UK 22 Jun 2022 (Forum)
A taxi supervisor told me that apart from the earlier 405 and 406 most taxi firms choose other makes because they prefer cars that are designed for RHD and not converted LHD. The reason I ask is that my partner recently broke her left wrist and now back driving she is struggling with the biased gear change on her Captur which favours LHD drivers who use their right hand for gear changes.
  • Petrol car still better than PHEV and EV? 6 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Cost wise petrol car is cheaper to buy and repair / maintenance cost seems also cheaper than PHEV and EV.  Is it still worth buying a petrol car then? PhEV has 2 different drive train and both phev and EV batteries are also costly. Feels like the two are still at least 5 years away from being cost competitive. Could I get some input on this?

While driving the car home for the first time, I heard a lot pop like sound come from I believe the front driver side area of the car, and the malfunction engine light came on afterwards. • Buying private - protection? 8 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Hi. I'm on the verge of buying a car from a private seller. The car checks out - drives well, FSH, looks good, solid MOT history, reassuring HPI check, and getting it looked over by the garage.  However, parting with lots of money to a private seller doesn't feel that comfortable.

  • Hyundai i10, 2017 - Serpentine belt 11 Feb 2021 (Forum)
2017 i10 automatic. 23,000 miles. The car is in for its 4 year big service and Hyundai say the drive belt is shredding. They say £160 to supply and fit which sounds crazy. Some questions. Is there one belt on an automatic? How easy is it to change. ( I have done belts before on other cars).
  • Renault Captur - Are these advisories major? 31 May 2020 (Forum)
I’m thinking of buying a used car from a private seller, I checked the mot history and the following were advisories and just wondered if they were major or may affect the car in future. The car passed last mot so obviously been fixed Nearside Outer Drive shaft joint constant velocity boot split or insecure, no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (6.1.7 (g) (ii)) offside front outer cv boot slightly leaking grease (clip)
  • Visibility at motorway exit roundabouts 10 Feb 2020 (Forum)
The slip road usually meets the roundabout at an acute angle rather than 90 degrees, which means that drivers have to twist round in their seats and look over the shoulder to see traffic coming from the right. I have been driving since the mid 1970s and don't remember this being a problem in the past. Is it just me? I was considering one of those wide angle attachments for the door mirror.
  • Suzuki Grand Vitara 2009 - New D bushes for knock - now squeaks! 5 Feb 2020 (Forum)

The next day I go over a speedbump and it's now squeaking!  Any ideas? I don't want to be 'that' customer...
  • Volvo V70 - Windscreen and insurance 28 Dec 2019 (Forum)
These cars have a heat bonded screen and mine is coming away slightly and letting water in. Insurance company  say as there is no crack or chip in the driving vision area its not down to them. This car has just about had a rebuild, smacked by a post office van, front a real mess, scraped by a lorry next, side dented... both no fault...Christmas Day reversed into a wall, my fault.
  • SEAT IBIZA MK 4 - SEAT IBIZA MK4 - Brake fluid needs changing? 16 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Hi Folks I have had a reminder from my local dealer that the car brake fluid needs changing.  They claim that the fluid needs to be changed every 2 years. However, when I am driving, the foot and hand brake seem to be fine. Do you think the fluid does really need changing or is it a money making exercise? Thanks

  • Peugeot 206 1.4 Petrol - Dirty brown stuff inside coolant reservoir 16 May 2019 (Forum)
Also the oil on the dipstick is a lighter brown than I'm used to seeing, viscosity seems normal though.   Is this likely a head gasket about to go and stop driving it now type scenario?  It seems to run fine, no overheating or anything. • Ford cmax 1.6 diesel - Engine fault 7 May 2019 (Forum)

Spoke to a Dpf cleaner who said probably doesn't need cleaning as no crap coming out the back especially up the motorway    Only done 82000 miles any ideas?
  • Does rain affect fuel consumption? 15 Mar 2019 (Forum)
We have had lots of rain at the moment so the roads are wet and have some puddles whick surely must affect rolling resistance. I drive mostly motorways but my tyres are quite wide, 235/45 x 18. Have other people noticed this or am I typing rubbish?
