. >> After a couple of minutes, the engine will start again and >> run for maybe 2 to 20 minutes before cutting out again Exactly the same problem here,on a Golf Driver,G reg,1.6,but with one difference, mine ONLY does it in cold or wet weather, its fine in the summer, any ideas?I`m about to start checking the stuff in Andrew Moorey`s very helpfull piece on carb icing,(23 nov,02). Peugeot 406 warning light 29 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Last week you helped me out with a warning light problem on my 406. These things seem to run in 3's and true form no sooner had I sorted them than another light as appeared On the way home from work, I'm assuming that it is the engine management light (shape of an engine right in the middle of the display) came on and stayed on. -
Seat Altea 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Basically, the workshop can't find the cause.....thought it might be the bearings & on advice of the technical dept at SEAT, have changed one & rotated the tyres. Surprise surprise, it's still doing it. The dealer don't think the problem''s "too bad"(in other words, put up with it) & say that SEAT have no reports worldwide of this intermittent fault. Called SEAT today who weren't much help either. Is there anyone out there how's heard of this problem or has any suggestions?! -
peugoet 307 SW 1 Dec 2006 (Forum)
i am about to buy a 307 sw as a sensible option to a large MPV and cannot decide whether to buy a 2litre 16 valve petrol one or whether to air on the side of caution and stick with the sensible 110BHP 2litre HDI deisel version (which is only £110 a year tax too) it s only really going to be used as a second car and im just not sure i can justify all that extra money on a diesel when it would take me a very long time to recoup that extra initial outlay . what do you think people ?? -
The Real Hustle BBC4 yesterday 27 Nov 2006 (Forum)
-man drives off?it then transpired that there was a sat.nav unit in the glove compartment, with the driver?s home address loaded. When the man returned for his car, and his ?receipt? was revealed as fake, he was flabbergasted, and the presenter handed back his keys, pointing out that if the hustle had been in earnest, he would probably have lost the contents of his house as well as the Audi. -

I fought the wall, and the wall won.... 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Morning all, Been a bit of a prize turnip over the weekend, tried to negotiate quite a tight turn in local multistory, thought had got through then heard the dreaded scraping as rear n/s door caught the brickwork. Has left quite a nasty gash that about 5 cms long, but spread out over a height of about 10 cms. Is very uneven, and gone back to the metal in one part (although not extensively). -

The Top Gear Thread - Volume 23 20 Jul 2006 (Forum)

Audi S6 16 Jul 2006 (Forum)
d buy one just to listen to it! The car itself is, as you?d expect, supremely competent, but as is often the case with 4WD, it?s secure rather than exciting. After the S6, the 3.2 A4 cabrio seemed dull ? I didn?t like it as much as A4 saloons I?ve driven. Final car was the V6 TT which Mrsb wanted to try ? she loved it, and I? -
What car to get the girls? 18 Jun 2006 (Forum)
One presumes ( if my neighbour is anything to go by ) that if your a teenage lad, you take one Corsa, fit a piece of your dads drainpipe where the exhaust should be ( checking a cat hasnt gone to sleep in it before you start the engine ) and put a stereo in it worth three times the cars value with that extra half turn on the volume only the under 20's can find. That seems to work for my neighbour who has many girls hanging off his arm, though not what you would call classy girls by any stretch. Ive always found an Aston DB7 gets quite a few pretty faces looking at it ( a mate has one ). -

Merc W124 Estate Buying advice 27 Jan 2006 (Forum)
To test, is it as simple as getting a friend to climb in the boot and see it the car comes back up, and is it essential that the s/l works? (thought the clunk on the 230 could be a solved by changing the shock a'?)Any general advice on the cars very much appreciated - I know there are people here that are big fans. Frustrated as there are few around and wild price variations. -
Classics or rubbish ? 25 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I could go on... come on folks lets have some input Another point of note there used to be a excellent car show (note not used the word classic) by me in Llanberis (Snowdonia) and it was more a celibration of motoring It had every thing from Hillman Minxes rubbing shoulders with XJ220'S dodge vipers astons new and old Rather than rows & rows of teadeous BMC's & the like -
Two cars to one. 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Wife has a smart cabrio - good for her daily commute and parking in urban areas - cabrio good fun in summer. They need something between the two. Have considered a Mini Cooper S. Convertible Pluses - still quite small so easy to park, still a cabrio, good for longer journeys. Negatives - really only a two seater, small boot (they don't want to use the van for shopping), £20,000 price tag. -
Why not to to travel by train 6 Jan 2006 (Forum)
That was just silly, so I asked for Standard class which came to £90 for two separate singles (bizarrely, that?s cheaper than a single). Luckily for me, my company will reimburse the £90 and luckily for them the value of the client work I did on the train will more than recoup the cost. But ?.. would anyone spend £90 of their **own** money for a 75 min journey? -
Best book for the mechanically illiterat 25 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Can any of the Backroomers recommend me an easy-to-read book that will fill some of the gaps in my mechanical knowledge? I s´pose the ultimate aim would to be able to do more basic maintenance, but the initial priority is something to read rather than a specific Haynes manual. The kind of thing I would have in mind would be maybe something like the ´Internet for Dummies´ book, but obviously with a mechanical theme. -
Ugly, ugly, UGLY drive way! 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
On route I saw the most ugly, ugly UGLY drive way. Basically, you have a bog standard red brick 1930's end of terrace house with a frontage of no more than a Mondeo's depth. The 3 sided brick wall was constructed of yellow stock(to go with the red obviously!)it was way too high for a front brick wall, and had 6ft pillars with concrete lions atop as gateposts. -
406 V6 coil (again) 24 Nov 2005 (Forum)
In the service history, it was recalled to have all six coils replaced, coil 5 was replaced three months ago in Gdansk. I know it?s only a ten minute job once the right faulty coil has been diagnosed, would I be able to do it myself in future if I carried a couple of spares? How involved is it? I can change brake pads, oil and put shelves up and I carry a basic tool kit.
