Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 1993 1.1 - Starting Problems when Cold 29 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Sometime if I leave it an hour it will start ok. Battery is good and spark is evident. When it does start it immediately ticks over and runs perfectly. If I tow it for a bump starts it starts ok and runs fine and seems to restart fine when the engine is warm. Have tried various numbers of accelerator pumps pre turnover and holding pedal to the floor, taking of air filter etc but cannot find a single reliable 'trick' to get it going. -
3 years of a C220 21 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I have run a W reg Merc C220 diesel for just over three years and thought it would be interesting to compare costs with other BRs who have had their car of any make for a similar period. I paid £8500 after part exhange allowance of £2000 and I might be lucky to get £3000 for it now. -
Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - 2002 1.3i - oil top up followed by white smoke??? 20 Nov 2007 (Forum)
We immediately bought some oil and filled it up (the correct specification was used according to the handbook). For a couple of days, the car was fine, and running more smoothly than it had been. However, today, there was a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust which smelt of burning (not normal cold weather condensation). The engine seemed to be running ok, and there was no white sludge under the filler cap, nor any loss of power. -
A Radical Approach To Performance Tuning.... 7 Nov 2007 (Forum)
After running the car and letting it suck in sand we got about half way through a 25 lb bag. The check engine light was on and the engine was bucking and kicking and sounding really weird. We stopped and hooked the car back up normal and took off the sand supply. -
Your dream ten car garage 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The cars I would have are.. 1) My 1982 Porsche 928S - fully restored to showroom condition 2) A late Porsche 928GTS - as a daily run around 3) My Discovery TD5 - its not perfect, but I like to call it home! 4) A Ferrari 355 Spider - great looking car, but I'll need suncream for my bald head! 5) A Mclaren F1 - perfect for the school run 6) A Matra Rancho - in orange, to match the Corgi model I had one Christmas as a boy 7) A Toyota Celica GT4 Carlos Sainz - the last shape with the pop up lights 8) An Austin Clifton Heavy Twelve Four - anyone remeber Gumdrop? -
ABS Warning light on 01 Vauxhall Vectra 30 May 2007 (Forum)
On one occasion they told me that they had found a loose connection on the ABS sensors and that the 'problem' should go away. Then they tried to charge me £30.00 to run a diagnostic, even though the light wasn't on! Have now left the main dealership and am using a local 'approved' garage, but they tell me the same - no light, no error code, no fix. Is this true? -
Punto 60SX - starts and then doesnt 5 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I can start and run the car for ages or for a ten minute trip to the shop, and then if i turn it off and come back to it in like10mins or so it wont start again till about 1/2 hour. This started around 2 months after i owned it too, altho it doesnt happen lots either, and seemed to stop when it got serviced in january. -
E90 BMW 320Si guages in dash 12 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi BR's I've just taken delivery of my new company car - a BMW 320Si and have been driving around for the last week running her in. (1000 miles in 5 days) I've come across a few oddities. They may be common knowledge to other E90 BMW owners but as its my first company car/BMW/new car please excuse my ignorance. 1) There is no temperature guage in the dash - The handbook informs me that there is a warning light in the event of the engine overheating! -
Insurance and buying tax disc! 26 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I was told the insurance certificate was not acceptable because it didn't refer to the period for which the tax disc would run. Now the insurance has been renewed, but the new certificate hasn't actually arrived, so I thought I'd get the disc while the old one was still valid. Nope! The assistant in the Post Office said that even if my current certificate had run one single day into May she could have issued the disc! -
Company car / cash alternative dilemma 31 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hopefully by then there will be a decent amount to choose from at semi-reasonable prices. While we're on the subject - anyone got anything to say on running a new shape Legacy ? I know there's been a few threads on general Subaru ownership, is there anyone who's owned one of these specifically. I'd probably go for the 2 litre engine. Thanks -- Soupytwist ! -
how to test a coil chrysler 1937 15 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Any ideas, or could it have simply have been a component failure or chaffed wire to earth? Obvioulsy had a huge amount of current flowing through it. The car was out on a run when this happened. I don't know wether it occurred during the run, or on start up. Damn odd points in it. Single sided with the other contact attached to the base plate itself with like a crude vernier adjust. -
? change diesel injectors (Fiat) 4 Oct 2005 (Forum)
My initial reaction has been to add some injection cleaner to a new tank of fuel. For the past few days it has been running fine, but this morning the problem returned. I believe it may not be firing on one or more of the 5 cylinders for a brief time due to fuel starvation. The diesel filter was change only 6 weeks ago when the car was serviced and the glow plugs were changed last year. -
Nissan Navara - Rust? 28 Sep 2005 (Forum)
When I showed the locking wheel nuts - I got "they all do that" and when I showed the side step / running board, they could not provide an explanation but took a picture to send to Nissan UK. They did try to fob me off by telling me that it was an optional extra anyway (quite untrue - it was standard fit for the Navara but an optional extra for the basic pickup). -
Another VW Passat misfire 20 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I own a 1997 Mk5 Passat 1.8 20V. It started to misfire last weekend running intermittently on anything from 2, 3 or all 4 cylinders. I have since changed the plugs, and the coil pack and this has not made a difference. Also, I have ran a compression test without receiving an adverse result. -
Peugeot 406 stalling during warmup 20 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Here?s a puzzling one. The engine on my Peugeot 406 2.0 (1998/S) petrol runs fine when cold, and when very hot, but during the warm up period there is a nasty period when it stalls, falters when driving off, flat spots and is generally unhappy. During this period, the orange ? -
Ford Fiesta MK4 12 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Reading other forum posts on this subject has helped me trace the fault to a broken cable / wire underneath the front passenger seat. This controls the seat belt pre - tensioners and is a yellow cable / wire that runs from a plug on the innermost seat rail to another plug that is under a piece of trim near the door sill. It's snapped away from its plug at the door end and the plug has been removed by the previous owner so all i have is two bare wires. -
HT Leads (expiring?) Polo 6 May 2005 (Forum)
I don't think its running rich , so to speak, as the tailpipe is as clean as a whistle. A while ago, when I had trouble with the distributor, it was suggest to me (by Peter D I do believe) that the HT leads on these Polo? -
Megane v Mondeo (really!) 5 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I need something cheaper to run than my current 5-series, without giving up too many creature comforts, looking to spend not too much over £10k (11 at a push). I've been looking at the options among 1-2 year old diesels and my shopping list's shrunk down to 2 (an odd couple you might think): a Megane hatch 120 DCi Privilege or a Mondeo TDCi Ghia (or maybe Zetec) 115 or 130PS. -
Pre-Registered v. Nearly New 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
This appears to be a couple of grand less than the price of 'nearly new' diesel, but over a few years, the costs of ownership would probably be similar. Having read about the importance of 'running in' a new car, I am concerned that a nearly new one might have been thrashed, or could be a 'lemon' that the first owner has sold on as quickly as they could. I'd prefer a diesel, but this concern is putting me off a little. -
Alfa 156 blown spark plug 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
My alfa 156 suddenly developed a really bad misfire like it was running on 2 cylinders, on opening the bonnet there was a horendous knocking coming from the top of the engine, I removed the engine cover to find it had blown one of the small sark plugs out of the head stripping the thread on the bottom 4 pitches of the plug.
