  • Car Suggestions 15 Feb 2024 (Forum)
I had a Renegade as a hire car last year, was convinced I'd hate it and actually found it remarkably comfortable and serene to drive.  We were visiting friends who literally live up a mountain in Spain and the extra ground clearance really helped on their track.  I'm wondering if the extra softness in the suspension is what made it comfy.
  • BMW 5 Series - Buying Approved Used BMW without seeing it first? 19 Jun 2023 (Forum)
I first wanted to fly to Scotland and see the car, complete the purchase the same day if all looks good and then drive back in it. However, my wife has labelled this as a crazy plan and given that she has always been the sane one, I am going to listen to her and not insist on executing this plan.   Given that it is an approved used car on BMW's website, can I trust it to be in a perfect condition as described with everything in order?
  • VW polo - Cash in lieu settlement 12 Jun 2022 (Forum)
My partner is on my insurance as the named driver, both of us never claimed in 25+ years . He was driving my old polo and a Polish lorry drove into the rear door, owing to the language barrier insurance having difficulty proving liability though at roadside lorry driver did say he didn't see him (Lh drive).
  • Vauxhall Corsa - Advice on car bought 2 weeks ago please 13 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I bought a second hand car from a dealer 2 weeks ago and something doesn't seem right with it. I am only allowed to drive automatics and this is a corsa D breeze 2008. Easytronic so semi auto very similar to my last car. When I am driving it, the revvs in between gear changes are high and it's as though there is a delay in it finding the gear but then once it changes it's ok.
  • VW Golf SE - VW Golf MK 7 windscreen fog/haze problem 7 Nov 2020 (Forum)
The only way to clear it is to put the blowers on it with A/C on but even then it takes roughly 5 minutes to clear and it's not even cold yet. And this morning I hit some fog whilst driving and the "patchy fog" reappeared on the screen for 5-10 seconds which was quite disconcerting when driving around 60mph. I assume that the fog must have lowered the windcreen temp instantly and caused this stuff to reappear.
  • Audi A3 - Audi A3 - Buying a high mileage A3 - advice needed 19 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Hi guys,  I'm looking to buy my first car here in the UK. I'm 29 years old and had my driving licence since I was 18 (issued in my home country, Romania) and although I've been living in the UK since 2013, I haven't driven here at all yet.  I've been looking on autotrader and I'm considering  the following:  https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202009023242239?
  • Seat adjustment. So little choice. 6 Aug 2020 (Forum)
It's almost like they don't want to sell me what I want, but what they want me to have. Don't like it. The XC60 is very comfortable and luckily SWMBO does not drive it, but if she did it would drive me crackers again having to reset the seat, mirrors etc every time. Cheers Concrete

  • Citroen c4 hdi - Faulty car on finance 18 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I have a car on finance that had a warrantee which ran out literally weeks ago within a week of it running out I have had to get the dpf filter cleared at a garage, the radiator fan blew a fuse link and now been told that it has an engine knock which requires a new timing belt and bearings, a new water pump while they are in there and possibly a new camshaft pulley.  To top this off I was driving the car on Friday and the radiator fan has fallen apart inside the radiator and snapped meaning I can not drive the car at all. All of these things have been confirmed by two garages and happened within three weeks.
  • Land Rover Range Rover 'Classic' (1970 - 1995) - 88 3.5 cutting out 30 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I have a 1988 EFI 3.5 Range Rover, which has developed the sort of fault that drives one to drink (well, I can't drive the car so I might as well) It starts well from cold, and runs fine. When hot tho' it doesn't want to know. Leave it 15 minutes and it will start again instantly.
  • Steering pointing to 11:30 when driving straight 28 May 2019 (Forum)

  • Nissan Micra K12 2005 - Air pressure under oil cap 16 Apr 2019 (Forum)
About a month ago whilst driving into town a dry bearing type sound started coming from the engine bay.  My initial thought it was the water pump on its way out as it sounded just like a similar noise I had on a Mazda many years ago.
  • Mazda CX-5 - Petrol or Diesel for city & occasional long haul 29 Jan 2019 (Forum)
We tried the CR-V 1.6 and the CX-5 2.2 and are currently favouring the latter as it seemed so much more enjoyable to drive. But we're having sudden second thoughts about the diesel. We're not heavy drivers: there's a daily school run and 20-60 minute weekend drive most of the time. But we holiday in the UK about 3 times a year - visiting relatives mostly - which is 200-300 miles each time.
  • Peugeot 206 - Pay to repair my car, or invest in a new one? 23 Nov 2018 (Forum)
My secondary priorities include comfort, motorway driving, decent car speakers and resale value in a couple of years. I understand that I probably haven't provided enough info for a definite answer, but any general advice would be great, thanks.   Edit to add that I'm not set on any of these cars, i'd happily buy any car in my budget and meeting my criteria.
  • Bought car.. 22 Nov 2018 (Forum)
When I bought the car I noted that it needed a service for the DSG clutchs & the Haldex 4 wheel drive system, the selling garage was not an Audi dealership & i agreed that I would bear this expense & have done at a Audi Inside of my choice. So cut a long story short when I collected the car from Audi they informed me that the car has 2 decats pipes fitted in place of the secondary cats & it should not have passed an mot as its missing irrespective whether or not it passed the BET test!
  • Which is better Yaris, or Panda? 28 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I could not make up my mind which one to buy after sold my old Peugeot 306 for a Yaris 1.4D 73bhp 2004 or Panda 1.3 Multijet 70bhp 2004, I have been on both out for a test drive, both are very space for a small car, Panda is cost £29 cheaper to insure than Yaris, both have same road tax but the engine I am more focus is mpg because I am driving nearly 30,000 miles per year between 60-70mph on dual carriage, the Panda’s engine is rev to 2,900rpm at 70mph but the Yaris is rev low at 2,500rpm do you think 2,900 rpm is far too much for a diesel engine.
  • Honda CR-V 2015 - Satnav not always showing speed limits 14 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Before the update, the satnav was working fine and correctly showed the current speed limit wherever I was driving. It even picked up within a couple of days that a new 30kph limit had been introduced in our village outside the school. Since the update, it no longer shows speeds limits in random, but consistent, areas.
  • VW Tiguan - Haggling with franchised dealer? 2 May 2018 (Forum)
However this is on the basis of paying a deposit and agreeing to buy the car if it is as advertised, after a test drive. They have a suitable one priced at £15750.  I don't want to do this until I have agreed the price. I spoke on the phone to the salesman who was not interested in shifting on price - he said the car was a good price and cheaper than ones I had looked at the garage.
