private buyer long term diesel / lpg choice ? 24 Sep 2009 (Forum)
road tax here is based on power output only so all approx 170 euros tax per year apart from dealer lpg coversions TAX FREE. which will be best, safest and last at least 10 years, hopefully more. after warranty runs out will do most basic servicing ( oils, filters, brake pads) at home so chain drive camshaft is one less worry. depreciation is a different beast over here, people keep cars much longer and used car values are much higher. -

Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - First Time Company Car 24 May 2008 (Forum)
Car being offered is a Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 SRI (150) Diesel Estate, and the offer states they would cover all the running expenses of the car for business mileage, and I would be responsible for your personal mileage. First time I've been offered a company car so my head is battered with questions!!! 1. Running expenses. -

Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 2003 PD130 owner's report 24 Jan 2008 (Forum)
s making way for a new Mondeo. For what it?s worth, here?s my impressions and experience of ownership. First, I didn?t really run it in, I just drove it. Even keeping below 3K rpm, you?re still moving quite nicely. It?s been serviced at 10K intervals, using 505.01 oil (not long life). Uses about half a pint of oil between changes. -
Subaru Impreza II fl 2 (2006 - 2007) - 16" vs 17" tyre experiment 4 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Yesterday I did some minor suspension mods on a '57 Subaru Impreza WRX. The car had just had its 1000 'running in' service at the dealer and the owner wanted a few mods doing. The car was fitted with OE 17" wheels and Bridgestone RE050 215/45 tyres. When I'd done the work I test-drove the car and noted again how 'knobbly' these cars can feel on an imperfect road surface. -
USA observations and rip off Britain 31 Aug 2007 (Forum)
6.I saw an advert on telly where one of the main selling points was that the car could achieve 31mpg on a long run!!! I nearly cracked a rib laughing. 7.The Golf R32 is $33000 new. That's just not fair. 8.They are getting quite seriously into cars with better fuel economy now that petrol is a dizzy $2.70 a gallon!!! -
Traffic Light 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I had once accidentally driven through a red light about two months ago and paid the price for it, from one side to the other in a continued drive without realising it, and that to me would constitute as running a red light, but I am unaware of exactly what is seen as running the light, as I stopped, though late because the light to my left was obscured and I assumed the ones ahead were for a different turn off. -
Mercedes C25DT (Sept 98) Auto (W202) 20 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The Mercedes agent seems at a loss and I've asked that Mercedes (UK) get involved, now that it occasionally happens when the engine is running at operating temperature I'm concerned it could cause an accident. AWP 19 Feb 06 Finally, I've tried using a branded diesel additive to no avail. -
Galaxy gearbox ecu nightmare 16 Dec 2005 (Forum)

How long do you keep a car for? 1 Oct 2005 (Forum)
With a total annual running cost of about £200 plus petrol Auntie is going to hang on in there until either great granddaughter materialises or someone takes my licence away. Surely someone can beat 32 years... -
Calibra slow to drop to idle 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Other thoughts are TPS ? CTS maybe ? (although it was replaced last year). Other than that the car runs absolutely spot on, no smoke, holds 9.5 psi boost, starts and runs fine. When I took the ISCV out there was very little contamination on it and it uses very little oil, so the engine seems to be in good nick, it's just got this damned annoying habit of revs holding up, and I'm pretty certain it's not the ISCV. -
keep 306 or s/h almera-primera-mondeo? 4 Feb 2004 (Forum)
So the question is do I patch it up and hope for another year of motoring or let her slip gently away and buy either: 1-3k Primera 80-100k miles, 2-3k Almera 50-80k miles or 2.5-3k Mondeo (new shape) 50-80k miles? I'm after low running costs and reliabilty first and foremost with good handling and reasonable ride. Looking for 3-5 years life. Also not eye wateringly expensive to fix. I'm not interested in residuals since I run 'em into the ground. -
What to buy????????? 3 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Will it be a bit flash, even if it is 3, to 4 years old? Now I know what your all thinking, he (for I am) has not mentioned running cost's. Refinement and style rule my heart, 36 mile round trip to work (via Dartford tolls) rules my head. If it is to dear to run I can always's sell it. I know what I should do, the right thing! -
A most reliable car 17 Dec 2002 (Forum)
As far as I recall absolutely nothing else has been touched. It seems to burn no oil. It did boil over once - broken fanbelt. It has never failed to start and run or do what it is required of it and I see it now shows 120,000 km. The cassette has packed up but the radio still works. There is no significant rot anywhere although the white paint has faded. The same was true of all the others: the 1980's one which looked like a copy of the Merc 190E is still a favorite with Manila taxi-drivers today and Lord knows what they must have survived to still be running. -
interesting sat telegraph this week 11 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Gatso's are nonsense But so is the wider way the roads are policed We should not just be knocking the government?s crazy way of running the transport system, we should also start listing some of the obvious positive suggestions to make things better For instance (off the top of my head) - less bans, more retraining, retests, e.g. court tells you to take X hours of driver training in the next 2 months and pass a retest in the next 4 months - is much more likely to improve the driver than a ban - start attacking really dangerous behaviour (e.g. double parking outside schools, parking on crossing zig zags (unless there? -
Jaguar XF - Jaguar XF - Power loss at slow speed - limp mode 15 Jun 2025 (Forum)
Ive had the car in the garage twice with no issues being found but then it happens again. I do allot of long runs and only use premium fuel. It seems to be either the egr, turbo or somthing like that, however the car is not reporting any issues with them as there are no dash lights. Essentially, it feels like your trying to move off in a very high gear. -
Skoda Fabia - Is there known issue for VAG 1.0TSI ? 14 Nov 2024 (Forum)
We are looking to replace our 10 year old Citroen C4 Picasso. The car has been running okay but need to downsize so that our son can drive when he passes his driving test in next few month. We quite like Skoda Fabia Hatchback and our budget is around 10k which will enable us to get one post 17/67 reg. -
VOLKSWAGEN Golf Ready2Go 1.0 TSI 85kW 115CV - Should I buy a car with a visible crack? 27 Jul 2024 (Forum)
I´m looking to buy a second hand car, approximately 6 years old and I´ve found this VW Golf which looks in great condition generally, runs well and is at a good price from a local car dealer. My only worry is that there is a small crack in the framework at the back left of the car (approx 1 inch) - only visible when you open the boot. -
VW Clubman - Trader refuses refund and has had it for 4 months! 16 Jan 2024 (Forum)
It has an engine fault which they can't seem to fix. However it's still at his repair garage and in 4 weeks time it will run out of MOT.. which means if he decided to deliver it back to me I wouldn't be able to tax or insured it because it has no MOT! What on earth can I do? He is insisting that he repairs it. This is the 5th attempt!
