  I changed the oil and filter today after some difficulty removing the old filter fitted by Audi at 40K now 49K. New filter fitted new Edge 5-30 oil and fired her up. Sptooed a small leak. On closer investigation it was not coming from the filter seal but from the seal between the oil cooler and the oil filter retainer.

  If the internal display is oil level, why would it go as low as 1 blob? Should I be worried?? BTW The garage changed the oil before I collected the car and seem to have used a no-name filter. Could this cause a fluctuating level?

  An advertisement in my local paper took caught my attention recently.It was for BP VISCO 7000 FE 0W30 fully synthetic engine oil £12 for 4 litres.I checked on the BP website and this oil was primarily developed for the extended change intervals with Audi/VW in their motors. My car a Primera 2.0 SRi uses 10W30 according to the Haynes manual but the handbook gives a range of oils depending on the climate.I use Havoline 5W30 at 5000ml intervals with my mechanic choosing to use Valvoline turbo 10W30 on it's 10000 ml service, The BP website given the details of my car recommended BP VISCO 7000 0W40.Probably a difficult one to answer but any opinions on the suitablity of the 0W30 oil or should I steer clear of what appears to be a bargain.

  Initially I was told by a mechanic this was from worn valve guides and/or cams. Though I no longer think that?s the problem... I decided to do an oil change so I bought some Castrol 10w40 and some engine flush... I put the engine flush in and within 10 mins the sound was gone!! I changed the oil and all was great. (About 1 month ago) Yesterday the sound came back... so I went to do the same... oil flush in but the sound didn?

  But the valve train is becoming noisy again which makes me think that the lubrication is becoming marginal at the top end (it's a 2 valver so the cam lobes are quite highly loaded) I don't want to do an unnecessary oil change if the oil is still decent. Does anyone know any other tricks for finding coolant lurking in oil?

  Went to buy oil yesterday - usually have fully synthetic 5/40, but checked the garage receipt to discover they had refilled with 10/30 - semi synthetic. Questions: Will this oil damage the engine? The Uniparts store I bought oil from said I could not top up with the normal oil - is this right?

  Carrying in from this topic http://tinyurl.com/yzelr3 My SIL has a 2003 1.4 Match. Is this the same engine as the FSI? She is losing a lot of oil, I don't know specific quantities, but it is not what I would call a normal amount on a low milage three year old car. When she first took in to the dealer they said they had changed the 'oil filler cap', as it was faulty.

  One year old 8000 miles No service warning but did not like going over 1 year so had a service. VW 506.01 oil. After 12 miles checked dip stick. Oil is black. Not tinged black but black. Got the oil can in the boot -they had used 4.5 litres approx.out of it but maybe not in my car. Have a horrible feeling someone thought --this car has miles to go before the oil is done for so how about not changing it.

  After half an hour, start up tin of nails again then drive 200 yards to petrol station, put a tenner of petrol in, start up......absolutely perfect and perfect after a 3 mile drive home other than oil light flicking on n off at idle. Not the first time it's happened like this. When I first changed the oil filter after buying the car there was a fair amount of oil that came out of the filter housing.

  I'm thinking I might just do a DIY engine flush to remove as much of the silt as I can. The basic idea is to use 3 changes of 30% 2-stroke as a flush while turning the non-firing engine over with the plugs out, then, after changing the oil filter, do a couple of close-succession changes (say 100 miles or so) with Delvac 15W/40 and (very old) Mobil Special 20W/50, before resuming normal oil change intervals.

  The oil cooler on my dads mondeo has started to crack or has a hair line crack as it weeping oil. Is changing the cooler as simple as removing the 2 pipe fittng the new cooler and then turning the power steering lock to lock for a bit or is it more involved?

  I have been reading the thread regarding oil change intervals and one or two contributors mentioned cambelts. I am not sure what the manufacturer recommends (if anything) for my car so perhaps I could have a reasonably definative opinion from the techies amongst us.

  Since the car was serviced in April at Dees of Croydon (franchised dealer), i have only covered 4k miles. I checked the oil the other day and noticed that it has changed colour to dark brown. The level has not gone down at all. The service interval is 12.5k miles. Is this normal?

  2.0cc DOC engine. I have been told I may have a blocked oil way feed pipe to a cam follower(as a loud ticking noise is heard when engine is started). I change the engine oil every six months. Is there any risk in using an engine flush to cure this problem? The car has covered 90,000 miles.

  I was checking over the car today, it's a Micra 1L, W Reg, and underneath the car what I think is the sump is half covered in greasy oil. There are no drips and it is not losing any oil, I get six monthly oil changes and have never had to top it up. The bottom side of the engine is the same just like a film of grease. It is running ok, it's just that I have never noticed this on previous cars and am hoping it is normal.
