  Citroen C5 and C5 Estate 22 Feb 2001 (News)
  Citroen has announced prices from around £14,500 to £21,000 for its new C5 model which goes on sale in the UK in April. The car is big, but bland looking, lacking the style of the new Ford Mondeo and Renault Laguna. But underneath it is based on PSAs new Platform 3 and incorporates Hydractive 3, Citroens latest version of its active hydropneumatic suspension system which requires no maintenance for the first five years.

  In total, 50 expertly selected unexceptional models were presented on the lawns of National trust property Claydon House, Bucks, with a hugely diverse and eclectic selection that has become expected from FOTU. Highlights included a 1992 Renault Clio 1.4 RT, in showroom condition and showing just 24,000 miles since new. Another popular entrant was a 1987 Rover 820E, suggested to be the very last model of its type remaining on UK roads. Cars that used to be mainstream but are now a rarity included a 1989 Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0i CD, two exceptional Rover 200 R8s, a 1985 Nissan Sunny 1.5 GL and a 1980 Ford Cortina 2.0 L.

    Make While the biggest decline in sales continued to be from Rover cars, sales of Nissans (down 11.0 per cent) and Renaults (down 10.2 percent) were also hit hard. Sales of used BMWs and Volkswagens, which had remained strong during Q2 in previous years, saw sales fall for the first time.   In comparison to Q1 this year, sales of used Mercedes-Benz and BMW were the only ones to perform strongly (up 3.7 per cent and 3.2 per cent).

  Government announces £500m “electric highways” trials 18 Aug 2015 (News)
  The Government has commissioned a £500m study into technology that could allow electric vehicle owners to charge their vehicle as they drive. The study is being conducted with BMW and Renault and could result in wireless charging panels being embedded beneath the surface of public motorways, which will then charge electric vehicles as they drive over the surface of the road.   The announcement is the results of a two-year Government feasibility study to look at various ways of reducing the range anxiety that prevents many from buying pure EVs. The study focused on the possibility of installing a Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT) system beneath the UK’s major motorways.

Spectators will be able to see steam-powered cars, electric cars, three-wheelers as well as petrol-powered four-wheelers. The London to Brighton is the world’s longest running motoring event.

  Government to invest £9m in low-emission car infrastructure 31 Jan 2014 (News)
  .” The investment is part of a campaign called Go Ultra Low, which is being backed by low emission vehicle manufacturers including BMW, Nissan, Renault, Toyota and Vauxhall. London already has plenty of electric charging points for EVs and plug-in hybrids, so the focus of the £9m boost will be on areas outside of London. One of the most important aims of the investment is the installation of 140 new fast charging stations, which can top up an electric car’s battery in 30 minutes.
