Daihatsu Skywing (like Mk2 Charade) - Car stumbles and looses power 26 May 2019 (Forum)
GF tells them to put 92 in it. 95 is on the filler flap but that dropped off and is under the seat. I've put 92 in it without trouble in the past but I suspect it might now be a bit coked (runs on after switchoff) so I've been sticking to 95. Trouble restarting and keeping it going for the return journey after only about half an hour stop. Improves after about a klick but still hesitates a couple of times during the 20k or so trip and is definately running rough and down on power (which it didn't have a lot of before) going over hump-backed bridges. -
Corsa 2008 Diesel 1.2 - EGR Valve, Fuel Injectors the list goes on.... 30 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Was advised that the car may smoke for a few days, but this was just all the crap getting out the car. That evening car seemed to be running fine, next morning car started up ok no problems. Drove to local shop, 2 mins later tried to re-start car for it to be engulfed in clouds of exhaust fumes and juddering. In between deciding next course of action, tried car again - it started up and again seemed run ok. -
A quandary, third car or not? 25 May 2018 (Forum)
Her driving pattern is 3 days a week commute to work 26 miles each way + add minimum of 10 miles running around kids to school (on way to work) and to various activities. Plus at two other weekdays 40+ mile round trips to visit family. And our use for weekends/holidays etc. So, does the maths work? -
2004 Astra G 1.7 CDTI 80ps - Astra 1.7 CDTI Starting Troubles 4 May 2015 (Forum)
Fuel filter and air filter have been changed and made no difference When running there is a bit of a knocking noise when cold, sounds a bit like an injector knocking altho this is alot quieter when the engine has warmed up a bit. Other than the noise which disappears after about 10mins, theres a lack of power past 3k which I'm putting down to the fact that its in limp home mode. -
E46 330D Touring 2001 - E46 330D Touring spluttered to a halt and now will 12 Apr 2013 (Forum)
My thinking is the P1640 Internal Control Module (ROM/RAM) Error only comes up when the engine has been cranking for some time and may be coming up due to the battery voltage dropping off and the ECU saying im not happy about this glow plug error well that aint no big thing but shouldnt stop the engine from starting. So next plan is to change high pressure pump as im fast running out of options unless anyone on here can suggest somthing to try any help would be greatly appreciated -
Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - 98 1.1 (petrol) Engine stalls/spontaneously revs 28 Jan 2012 (Forum)
This seems to happen more often on overrun, but will sometimes do it apparently spontaneously. It can normally be kept running with a little judicious nursing of the throttle, then the problem passes and it's running fine again. The second problem is a little more mysterious. At some point - which seems to be more often when the engine is warm - the engine will start regularly revving, as if someone is blipping the throttle. -
307 d turbo - 307 d turbo 2002 engine management. 25 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I have taken the car down the motorway in 4th gear at over 70mph as i was told that does a force regen, after starting the car the next day the car was running much better and you could hear the whistle from the turbo. But once the car was low on diesel it started to run sluggish (no power from the turbo). Once i put my foot down it then forced it into limp mode, now i have noticed if i turn the engine off for 10 seconds and start the car again the esp light would go off and would allow me to rev over 3000 revs, but would still lack that power from the turbo. -
Audi A4 cabriolet 2003 - water in front passenger footwell 9 Jun 2011 (Forum)
This trim is the one along the hinge side of the pasenger door sill and up the side of the footwell (not the longer piece of trim running back along the rest of the door sill). After some hefty investigative work it appears that the water comes out of the door seal at the hinge level and runs down uner the seal between the seal and door frame and eventualy leaps over the plastic trim on to the floor. -
Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec SE 1999 - Starting issues & Occasional stalling when cold. 24 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Once fully warmed everything works fine - car seems to run perfectly. As far as i'm aware the car has had a very mild form of the non starting problem for a long time - my father owned car before me (he did the first 95K miles) an said it would v. occasionally (less than 5 or 6 times a year) fail to start when frosty outside, but he'd leave it for a few mins and would work fine. -
Smart Roadster - Bioethanol E5 and octane rating question / concern 20 May 2010 (Forum)
Asking the company is unlikely to be the best way as they would just advise that it 'COULD' be safely used but are unlikely to disclose any potential issues / concerns, right? Should I risk it and just run it? Run normal unleaded and hope it does no damage despite the manufactures advice? I don't want a car with no engine :( The fuel in question is from a company called Maxol by the way - http://www.maxol.ie/maxol-bioethanol-e5.html - sadly no garage does the higher octane here now not even esso, texaco or shell :( *confused look* Help! -
Kawasaki ZZR600 94 misfiring after lay-up 22 Sep 2009 (Forum)
After a couple of moments of using the revs and the power, I dropped the speed back and shifted up to 6th. I noticed then she was only running on (what sounds like) 3 cylinders and sounding very sick indeed. I confirmed this when I went to pull away from the next junction, with a serious lack of power and a definite, persistent misfire from one cylinder. -
Driving diesels with health in mind 19 May 2009 (Forum)
I also maintain steady speeds just under or on boost; 1.8k. So get up to speed quickly when the engine is running efficiently. I also accelerate through the rev range regulary and i occasionally put the car under full load for 10mins or so for a decent clear out. I always idle for 20seconds before turn off. -
Repairing cars in this recession. 5 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Are all those parts available any more, like most here i've been enjoying the more favourable economy and have run the types of vehicles i only dreamed of 25 years ago, so i'm out of touch, but i wonder if we might be going to find out soon. {Putting words inside the symbols "<>" makes them invisible. DPF-Short trips-alternative solutions 14 Aug 2008 (Forum)
As Screwloose outlined yesterday. DPF and short trips don`t go well together. What`s the answer for those of us still running diesels without DPF? Hold on to the current car? even taking an approach that would see a major expense such as a new engine- or other several thousand pound repair- preferable to a new car with DPF? -
Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - 1998. 416 model - heating issues 15 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Hi have been proud 416 (r reg) owner for 6 months. have previosly only needed to add air to tyres and check levels etc. around 4 weeks ago car steamed over from expansion tank and got worried , temperature on dashboard said between 1/3 and half, refiled and drove home thought all was well. then couple of days later heater now heater only blows cold. car has had new radiator, plugs, leads, dizzy cap, starter, thermostat, recent oil and air filter change. also after reading through this web site other symtoms have lots of white smoke and water from exhaust at all times and whithe mist and petrol smell in expansion tank when running. also bubbles before boil over usually after 10-15 mins (sometimes more). fan comes on not that much but think may be normal as high running temp? all pipes get hot after around five mins. have removed and checked heater valve ok. -
Skoda Superb (2002 - 2008 ) - Misuse of vehicle recalls. 6 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The car is on variable servicing (but has since been serviced by me) and I have an excellent independently run MOT garage nearby - so no thanks. The response was huffy - but then I'd had a run in previously with these people who wanted to charge me about £100 for headlamp removal and refitting (twice) for conversion to LH dip when the job can be done in situ in under 5 minutes. -
Pug 306 diesel, fuel temp regulator 29 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I guess I could measure the temperature from the fuel drain pipe when hot. The reason I ask is that this 306 is turning veggy (running on veg oil), and veg oil ideally needs to be heated to 85 deg celsius to be at the same viscosity as diesel. I am also considering the option of adding an extra glow plug to the metal fuel heater circuit, to help melt the thick veg oil on cold starts. -
Citroen Xantia auto gearbox problem 9 Oct 2003 (Forum)
My father-in-law runs a '99 Citroen Xantia 1.9 diesel automatic with about 35K on the clock and regular service history. It is used for a mixture of short and long runs and towing. A fault recently developed while he was on holiday in France while towing a small caravan severe wet weather. -
Stilo - boomy exhaust/performance loss 15 Sep 2003 (Forum)
The major headache I have is how can I get it fixed when the car hasn't recorded any faults, and by my bad luck, it decides to behave when they have it? They said I might have to run it for longer until it records a problem, but what if it is never bad enough to be out of spec? Anyway, could any experts give me an insight into what can physically cause this booming etc. and if there are any techniques I can do (without voiding my warranty!) -
1966 and all that 4 Jun 2002 (Forum)
In fact my current F150 truck's V-8 is similar -- today its engine was turning over at only about 1500 rpm during a 100 kph run, so smooth you couldn't feel or hear it. Since this has become a regular topic round the bar I said I would seek second, third, fourth &c opinions. By definition I guess these will come from the ..er...more mature contributors.
