  • Help me to pick the right car this time 22 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Am leaning towards a diesel estate - as being able to put buggy in lengthways would be a joy, along with other luggage. No finance outstanding on the Leon - I paid cash. I am undure what I would pick up part-ex - rear OS door has a dent in it which I have been quoted £600 to repair - but I have £1500 on top of what I will get in part-ex to purchese the right car this time.
  • One car two prices 13 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I had actually gone out to look at C1's, but they were too small: considered a new C3 Desire but having test drove the 54 reg SX on the forecourt, bought that for slightly cheaper, at £8495 before discount PX etc. I am happy with the deal, the finance and glad of the PX for my Octavia. £500 Deposit left. One slight problem was that i had a look around on Auto trader when i got home and found apparently the same car for £7,495 on the net. Not a different car, but the same one.
  • Main-dealer salesmen techniques? 29 Apr 2003 (Forum)
A nice car, it was though easily £1500 over A1 book. I told him I had a big deposit wanted about 50% of the price as Rover finance, had no part-ex and all the documents to sign up that day and leave a deposit. Would he haggle? No. He wasn't interested in my offer which was definitely nearer retail at £1000 less than sticker and didn't even want to counter-offer.
  • Imported "new" Car 5 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Began discussions with the new dealer on getting out of the PCP we were in and that we wanted to deal with someone else and would they help us get a new car The new dealer then informs us that the car is an import - and, although on a PCP has no finance outstanding ( news to me on both fronts ) so hpi is clear - although the check also reveals that there are no other details on the system for the car .. Anyway - the fact that we were sold an import ( not to our knowledge ) as a "new" car with only delivery mileage reduces the resale value also it is - in my opinion fraud on behalf of the dealer who sold it to us So my questions are this - what process would we need to follow to buy an import and therefore what documentation is missing and how do we stand as the consumer.... we have demanded all our money back and will take the matter further if needs be as this was a main dealer and the maths just doesnt stack up ....
  • Time to treat myself 2 Feb 2003 (Forum)
We're looking at R,S and T reg cars at places like the GTC or similar, up to about £4k (will be on finance). Likely candidates include Honda Accord, Toyota Avensis, Nissan Primera, Ford Mondeo. SWMBO fell in love with an 85k mile 98S Mondeo Ghia X 2.0 16v manual with leather, air and cruise for £3899 screen price last weekend, but now it's been sold.
  • Mini cooper d - Used vehicle my rights on rejecting the car 16 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I have had a gut full nothing has been repaired from getting the vehicle so they have now said they will put a recon engine in but I'm not happy with paying for a car 5600 to now have a car with a recon engine. Finance company have said I have to allow them to do the repair but I have had it 8 weeks at the time of chain failure and I need some advice. Surely as they have not been forthcoming in getting other repairs done I'm within my rights to reject as car is not fit for purpose.
  • HJ Answer PCP 16 Mar 2018 (Forum)
You need to speak to a solicitor to empower you to handle your relatives affairs and authorise you as your relative's appointed representative. You can also raise a complaint with the Finance Company, then the FOS (ombudsman). First it supposes that questioner is the person that the relative would want to handle affairs but that is a minor point.   Its, “Contact the lease company and advise the vehicle has been mis-sold due to this.
  • Ford Fiesta Ecoboost - New Car, Innaccurate HPI check, damaged car 12 Jun 2017 (Forum)
Before purchasing the car, I paid for the Autotrader HPI vehicle check - the report came back clear, with no outstanding finance/write offs or anything untoward on the car. The car recently developed some problems, so I took it to the garage. They told me that the car had been in an accident. I took out another vehicle check on another website and this time the check came back saying the car was a Cat D.
  • Mazda 6 - Post Purchase Issue - Insurance/Previous Damage 15 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I took the findings back to the broker and dealer who supplied the car to me but they have washed their hands of it, saying it was sold as seen, i'd signed for it etc. I have contacted the finance company who have told me to raise a complaint, which I will. Where do you think I stand legally? I didn't (and wouldn't have) noticed the original bodged repair job when I bought it and it is only since I have had this accident that it has come to light.
  • Landrover Freelander 2 - Freelander 2 Negative equity on HP 24 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I think I could get close to the outstanding amount as a private sale but woudl then need to settle the finance first. The car is due tax and MOT at end of October and probably could do with new tyres over the winter so I dont know whether to just accept I was stitched up in the first place adnd cut my losses or perseve and hope that theres no big bills.
  • debts after death?? 27 Jul 2015 (Forum)
I always though that a persons debt died with them. He assured me he was not a guarantor(try explaining that one) and had no knowledge of the finances his mother managed. She could not access the trust fund cash, only the monthly payment, so presumably borrowed money when there was a shortfall. He still lives in the rented house they shared. I would imagine that there are some fine legal brains within the forum who can offer guidance on this subject.
  • Car with similar performance of Citroen C3Airdream 8 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Saloon car or Hatchback but not Estate car I dont mind the car brand much so I am fine with new entry cars like Hyundai etc. My budget is around 15K (Cash payment, no loan/finance) and I am thinking of buying an used car (2-3 years old with mileage upto 25K). Shortlisted cars so far: 1. BMW 320d efficient dynamics (But the insurance is coming around £850 even with 8 years no claim bonus, for all other cars below the insurance is around £220) 2.
  • Lexus CT 200h - Hybrid Unwanted Acceleration 6 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Hi John In September I purchased on a PCP through the Lexus Finance Group a 12 month old CT200h car. The driving experience was very different however I required an automatic car that had a good mpg so a hybrid with many extras appeared to be a good solution.  I felt that the compromise for its lack of speed was the price I paid for a robust car to tackle the many miles of motorway driving that I endure.
  • Skoda Yeti - Skoda Yeti misleading brochure 3 Dec 2013 (Forum)
If we return it to the dealer for a full refund, we'll have to reorder and wait for another 16 weeks to get a replacement, but we've got a baby so can't really do that. If we take compensation, how much would we expect? Does it matter that it was bought on finance so technically I'm not even the owner for 3 years? Thanks.
  • Auction question 10 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I assume he only needs to show the V5 and car reciept to the parking fine companies and police who are chasing the vehcile to clear him? Should manheim have researched this? Could this be classed as outstanding finance? 3. I understand the DVLA will not charge him for changing the spelling of his name on the V5. Is that correct? I also believe he should report the practise of manheim of buyers only signing the V5 to the DVLA.
  • Audi a3 2004 - Not another Lemon..... 9 Dec 2012 (Forum)
The price £3995.00. Prior to viewing the car, the dealer said they could get my daughter finance, we had £2.000 to put towards it, the balance would be done by a loan company. She decided to purchase it and drove home. Three days later that dreaded engine management light came on!!
  • Ford Mondeo - Any other large petrol car suggestions 24 Aug 2012 (Forum)
So partly because it's got to need more repairs going forward and partly jusy because it's scruffy and I can afford to replace it without finance next year I've started thinking what next?   Budget will be 10K max, ideally a bit less. Looking at another 3 year old car to dodge the worst of the depreciation. A Mk4 Mondeo is the first candidate.
  • Time to start the debate again..driver re-tests... 13 Aug 2012 (Forum)
A driver should meet a similar standard requirement. A driver is tested just once, and then has access, finance permitting, to cars of all sizes and power for the rest of their lives, regardless of how much their road skill and knowledge lapses over time. Also, one's health and living standards (eg. obesity and effects of long term alcohol consumption) can directly affect their driving skills.
  • peugeot 1007 - Car clocking ,legal responsobility 1 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I paid cash for the car .Had it mot,d serviced ,fixed a few minor faults .then sold it via autotrader .the car was showing 47000 miles ,and was advertised on e bay with the same 47000 miles.thier was no service history with the car .i kept a copy of the e bay add ,did an hpi check ,and checked with peugeot uk .peugeot dont keep centralised records .they could only tell me that the car had been supplied to a finance company . im guessing that the car had been supplied on a non service lease . i rang 3 garages in the general area that the car had been registered to .non had a record of the car being serviced by them .
  • How hard is is to buy a new car? 27 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Dealer goes away and then another hour later calls back saying they can't get a Cayman Blue 4WD and only have two other 4WD models available, neither colour was one I (and more importantly my wife) liked. Again I say I'd wait, but dealer says not possible because the finance deal I got (0%) may not be available then. I was given 5 more minutes to discuss this with my wife, and we agreed we would take neither. Dealer didn't ring back and is now closed for the day. When they do ring back, order will be canceled and they'd better refund me PDQ.
