  My VW Golf has an intermittent demister failure.  It will run fine for a while, then the fans shut down and you hear something closing within the dash.  When the fans are set to recirc the air everything works fine.  However to confuse things when you switch on the front windscreen washers the demister starts working again for a short period of time.

  Anyone got real-world feedback on what this engine is like to live with e.g any problems, real-world MPG (anybody get close to claimed 40mpg from Ford specs on a longer run at steady speed)? Also, any downside to the version with higher output (240hp) over standard tune (203hp)? e.g is it much thirstier under normal driving condiitons?
• Vauxhall Astra H Estate - Astra Wiring Info pls 24 Oct 2011 (Forum)
  Need to splice some wiring into the roof lining of my car - An 07 Astra Sxi Estate. Between the map reading lights and front windscreen run 2 wires - one brown and one red with a black stripe. I am presuming one is +ve and one -ve. Can anyone confirm this and let me know which is which?   Thanx all :)

  Friends' Golf IV 1.6 (2-valve one) went into National for an oil change, and they told him he has mayonnaise on top the oil - they reckon the head gasket has blown. Could it be anything else? The engine has been running a bit rough on startup for a few seconds then settles down OK.

  When in the rev range of 1400 to 2000 the engine seens to cough or hold back while accerlerating I get no dashboard lights on at all car still doing about 61.0mpg when over 2000 rpm the car is fine and runs very smooth, when engine cold it doesn't happen, but when engine been runing for 5 mins approx it stat the problem.

  my mondeo is running superb apart from a little blip which happens as I ease off the throttle.ie when the engine is not pulling or holding back .It's more noticable on a 40mph road in cruise control.it kind of "shunts` back and forth. any one had same prob.?

  When started from cold in the morning this vehicle starts first turn of key for the first 6 or 7 minutes of driving vehicle emittes a lot of black smoke and appears to hold back. Once it reaches running tempature smoke clears and vehicle drives100% all day long, No mil light on and no fault codes   Anyone encountered this problem before Regards Mickeybo

  I've just bought my Peugeot and it seemed to be in some sort of limp mode so I tried a process of elimination so change injector seals and changed the mass air flow and it come out of limp mode but still seem to be lacking power as ive had one before. I give it a run out and still nothing just really numb! Can any1 help

  cananyone tell me anything on this subject on cold the engine starts fine but on idle the engine fault light comes on and there is a lack of power the rev counter drops, after warm up its fine runs perfect , i have been told it is the fuel pump o its way out , this problem seems to be getting worse

  Main dealer can find nothing wrong with diagnostics but acknowledges problem exists with the car.   Car also occasionally stalls when starting in reverse after a long run. Fuel filters checked and clean. Any ideas?

  hi my renault laguna dci on 51 plate is using a lot of diesel , in last few weeks its had new glowplugs and relay turbo pressure sensor , intercooler , and had egr valve cleaned by renault dealer who dignosed it. iam putting £10 of diesel in and getting about 55 miles and computer is saying about 33 miles on a run , i hope you can help thanks.

  I noticed this because of the cold weather I have been starting it and leaving it idling to defrost. It's starts first time and runs correctly for a couple of minutes and then it starts misfiring and puffing out blue smoke Any thoughts? Regards

  hi iv just changed the turbo on my scenic it runs an drives but a bit sluggish in first gear its not responding revs seem to be low ,also when the turbo blew there was a lot ov oil in the air ducts which i have cleaned ,the air duct pipe going into the intercooler keeps blowing off ,i think there could be blockage mabey oil. what do you think, thanx blue1965

  I've just aquired my first ever diesel car and am wondering if there's anything I need to know about running a diesel engine.  For example, should I warm up the engine before I drive off?  Does it harm it if some weeks I only do short journeys? Or any other useful tips. Thanks in anticipation

  I'd be driving to and from work (about 15 miles A roads, 15 miles M6) and other general business, so ideally something that is fairly cheap to run. Cheap insurance would be useful too. I know all the usual candidates, but just wondered what peoples thoughts were. Thanks, Rassilon.

  2001, 100k Suddenly has trouble getting up hills, OK on the flat. Runs like a tractor. Engine light flashing. Thought it was exhaust problem. Took it to Kwik Fit,they diagnosed an engine misfire. Possible electrical problem. Is this something that can be solved with a new set of plugs.

  my starter motor had packed up so the car was parked up when the weather was really cold i ordered a starter motor but when we tried to bump start it it just seized up and is dead it was parked up for a week it had been running fine up until it not starting and has just been mot,d we think there was no anti freeze in the car any suggestions much appreciated

  Hi There In the last week or so my car has developed a smoking exhaust, white ish in colour, that does not go away after the engine has heated up for a while. I have topped up the oil and perhaps the problem started after this. The car runs fine, and there doesnt appear to be any other problems, and the temp indicator doesnt flicker or move from the middle. Any ideas? Thanks

  This orange light just came on, car is running fine can detect no engine uneveness. Any one any thoughts on how to correct it apart from spending a fortune at Volvo agent? My local mechanic sugested an additivie to the petrol to try and clean the injectors, will of course try this and see what happens thanks JohnB
