  Has anyone used this water/petrol/coolant additive in the past. I have and believe it has had a positive effect. Anyone else care to comment? I was thinking of buying some more but it's quite expensive. Can anyone suggest where I might find some reliable test-data?

  Hope someone can help, have recentley bought this car, superb history, had new rad, water pump in January. Just had new coolant sensor and expansion tank put in, but still overheating. Fine for small journeys, but motorway nightmare

  I saw an advert in a motor mag about a product that claimed to help the internal heater heat 50% faster. The product is called something like Hotter Heater or similar, just add to the radiator coolant and away it goes. Has anyone used this product and if so how effective is it and is it safe for all engines petrol/diesel ?

  £650 for a 3 door N reg Fiesta 1.25 with 98,000 on the clock, but with no oil in the sump or road tax and a rapidly decaying battery. Think it had the wrong coolant in it too. Still, I got twenty quid out of it. Very annoying though. Rant over...
• Frontera heater matrix 5 Aug 2003 (Forum)
  I have a j-reg Frontera 2.3 td that has developed a leak in the heater matrix, (passenger footwell constantly soaked and coolant disappearing!). Is the heater matrix the same as any other vehicle (so I can get one from the local scrap yard, I'm a poor man!), or is it specific to the Frontera? Please help me, Roj.

  I got a further 9 month warranty off the dealer. Then last week (March 2019) the heater stopped working and I got it checked and there was no coolant. It took 3.5litres of coolant. Brought it back to the dealer. They ran tests and told me that it looks like the head gasket is gone... I'm not up to speed on the mechanics of a car. My question is, what's the best course of action?

  I have tried the following to fix: New engine oil & gearbox oil, New battery, New thermosat & coolant and coolant level sensor, New fuel filter, Cleaned EGR valve, Replaced engine ECU, Cleaned MAF. OP-COM shows more than 10 errors after this happens and the TCM shows as "not present ???"

  I turned the engine off & restarted after a few seconds. Everything fine. This morning I checked oil level etc. The coolant level was below minimum & no visible sign of leak. Car was recently serviced at Ford dealer & recall work was done..Coolant pipe replaced. Started car,warning came up again,with engine light illuminated aswell as !

  Hi. My car is occasionally loosing water and the low coolant level warning light comes on. I have fitted a new header tank and thermostat pipe network, there are no signs of leaks, indeed the header tank retains pressure for several hours after the engine has been turned off.

  I am loosing a bit of coolant (about 250ml per 200 miles) there is always a bit of water dripping out the exhaust but it dosn't smell of anything and I use my car for very short journeys so I think that is all it is. There is also the usual mayo under the oil cap.

  1) what is the correct procedure for bleeding the system 2) would a faulty thermostat fixed in the closed position cause the coolant to superheat and vaporise causing airlocks 3) could this be a head gasket problem...the car runs well.

  I do have to top up the coolant about every 1000 -1500 miles. Also when the engine is up to operating temperature the needle on the gauge does not point exactly up but slightly to the left which again I have not known in the past.

  Aircon is left on all year with occasional hot and cold runs as recommended by HJ to avoid problems. Checking the itemised service bills however I see that its never had a coolant or brake fluid change - despite the annual services being done by a main dealer. I intend to arrange the coolant and fluid soon. I was wondering though if there was anything else worth having done or if its a case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"(gearbox oil?

  Just been down to the dealer to get some parts: 1. Asked for Mitsubishi antifreeze concentrate (it needs a coolant change). Told that Mitsi don't sell their own coolant anymore. "What do you use then?". Reply - "Oh, just anything - the cheapest". "Erm....OK" (Scratches head and rolls eyes). 2. Ask for oil filter.

  Wheeler Dealers bought a Jaguar S type V8 with 200k miles and sent an oil sample off to Millers to find if the engine was in good shape. High levels of sulphur was detected which indicated coolant loss, possibly down to head gasket failure. Seems a sensible option before rather than after buying a car ?

  Just trying to make sure I’m not being ripped off, but my coolant is leaking and Mercedes main dealer have phoned to say the thermostat needs replacing (unusual for a car only having done 45k miles they said) anyway the quote for a replacement including VAT and Labour is £700.
