  • Hyundai Getz 1.1 year 2007 - Hyundai getz radiator fan not working 6 Jun 2017 (Forum)
With ignition on I've swapped the two 30A fuse links between fan and blower and its not that. I've bridged RAD1 and RAD 2 relays and the fan runs. I've disconnected the coolant temp switch and the fan runs.  Are there enough clues above for someone to offer some advise on how to proceed further as I desperately need this car on the road for my wife. The coolant switch has 4 wires. the car doesnt have a temp gauge only a blue bulb sign on the dash that goes out when engine is warmed up.
  • Ford Focus Estate 1.8 Petrol - Coolant temperature 7 Jun 2013 (Forum)
There are no other indications so far of a problem but it is overdue for a service. According to the ECU the coolant temperature was 106C. If these engines run hot as I get the impression that they were designed to do then I guess this isn't a problem. So first question to ask is should a 1.8 Zetec Petrol (2002) be running at 106C after 30 minutes of driving?
  • Skoda Fabia - 02 Fabia Brake Lights & Other Electrics 29 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Car has been running reliably since new, but recently we had have the head off, skimmed & replaced, together with a new coolant tank.  Since then there have been two problems: 1) The coolant warning alarm goes off when it is first driven, but not on subsequent trips once warmed up.  Since the transducer is part of the new coolant tank it should be ok.
  • Citroen C2 - A temporary fix needed to keep a damn car going 8 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Unfortunately the head gasket is on the way out.  To keep the car going, at the end of each journey I have to loosen the coolant cap until it goes "SSSSSSSS" (taking care not to lose my hand) so that the pressure doesn't force the coolant into the cylinders.  If I don't do this, the car won't even turn over next time without trying it about a million times.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol 1.6 - 'Using' coolant... normal? 30 Jan 2011 (Forum)
It seemed to tick all the right boxes: FSH including cambelt, good body, 120k, newish brakes and tyres, drives and sounds just like new, £900. So far so good. But the very decent seeming seller volunteered that the car 'uses' a little coolant (but with no sign of any leak) but that his mechanic had told him this was normal for an Astra. I'm just slightly worried about this water 'use'. Perhaps I'm barking entirely up the wrong tree here (I really know very little about cars...) but I'm wondering if the head gasket could be just starting to fail?
  • Renault Kangoo Van - Cooant levels 29 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Recently my Kangoo started over heating on a long journey.  I managed to get home, and next day checked the coolant level which was below the min mark, so I bought some coolant and filled up.  However, two days later, I checked the level again and it was again below the min mark, so, bought some more coolant and refilled.
  • Vauxhall Astra F - Overheating issue, running out of ideas 9 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Having been a cold running engine for all these years, 3 weeks ago out of the blue, just overheated and spat its coolant all over the engine bay.  Topped up coolant and it's not lost a drop since, so no leaks.  But it's been running really hot ever since. Short -wired fan so on constantly, but was barely keeping the temp down.
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 99 2.0 coolant temp fluctuations - normal? 30 Nov 2009 (Forum)
On the way home (warmer air temp, mostly uphill) the temp gauge appears normal but if I put the heater on full I can make the needle drop back out of the zone. Is it normal for the cabin heater to make this much difference to the engine coolant temp? (I've heard of mini drivers using the heater matrix as an extra radiator in summer traffic jams to stop the engine overheating - but I would have thought my mondeo would have more in reserve than this!)
  • Ford Focus III (2008 - ) - 08 1.6 Coolant Loss/Use 5 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I had some trouble with this about six months ago as the car was using/loosing coolant, it went to dealers no problem found, all topped up and was fine. Since then the car has been fine on all the trips even long runs down the motorway. Now the other day we went out and drove about 7 miles stopped and I noticed the cooling fan had come on, had a look and the expansion tank is empty.
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 (1985 - 2000) - 88 2.6 Disappearing coolant... 13 May 2009 (Forum)
Hi chaps I've recently got myself an old Merc 260E. It's a fine old bus and is running great, however it's losing some coolant - needs a top up every few weeks or so depending on usage Horrible head gasket related thoughts immediately entered my head - it doesn't seem to be showing any other symptoms though. Temp stays rock steady through the worst that London traffic throws at it, there's no white smoke other than the usual condensation on a cold day, and there's no visible oil/water contamination or bubbles in the header tank that I can see I took the undertray off yesterday, went for a run then stood it idling for a while - couldn't see any leaks or drips underneath the car.
  • Volvo 940 (1992 - 1997) - 1990 2.4TD - Steel Seal HG repair product 29 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Afternoon all. My 1990 Volvo 940 2.4 TD (VAG lump) has statred to blow its head gasket. Its pressurizing the coolant and forcing it out of the weekest part of the system - the radiator plastic end cap. I have also noticed a tinge of oil in the expansion tank. I am having to top up the coolant about once a week - so in travelling approx 180-200 miles a week I am having to top up about a pint of coolant.
  • Renault Clio 1.5 Dci smoking 14 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I have noticed large amounts of wet, sooty/oily deposits in the tailpipe but as it lacks any real smell, I can't tell if it's condensed diesel vapour due to fuel not reaching correct vapourisation point on start up, or water vapour. Incidentally, a coolant pressure test showed a loss of pressure from 15psi to zero in under 14 mins, and the level drops under pressure but returns to correct level when pressure in coolant expansion tank is removed. Coolant is correct colour and free of deposits/emulsified oil as is the rocker cover.
  • BMW E34 1992 test drive 6 Aug 2005 (Forum)
    - White came out of the exhaust at start up and while the car was cold and when stopped after only being run for a short time, the car flashed a warning of low coolant. Once I had taken it for a test drive the steam had disappeared and there was no coolant warning when the car stopped. I am assuming this is just condensation and the car not having enough time to circulate the coolant as I think it had been stood for some time
  • Old VW Polo intermittant power loss 24 Oct 2003 (Forum)
(Typically a few isolated drops on the ground below the engine after a drive). - Developed a slight coolant leak. Both a mechanic and an AA guy have put the coolant under pressure, but didn\'t find the leak. The coolant drops significantly in level over a month or two. Hope someone can help! Rich

  • What service does my Nissan X-Trail need? 7 Oct 2016 (Ask HJ)

  • 2007 Ford Focus2 1.6 petrol - Slow heater warm up 17 Dec 2014 (Forum)
For some time now, although the engine temperature gauge shows that the engine heats up very quickly, the heater can take about 15 minutes to get hot enough. There is then plenty of heat. Therer are no coolant leaks,  the engine runs fine and no work has been done on the coolant system. Does anyone have any idea what may be the cause? I was wondering if there could be an air lock somewhere, but if that were the case would the heater eventually start working properly?

Can you tell me why the heater on my 2004 Vauxhall Astra only blows warm air on the highest setting? The temperature gauge is also refusing to work.
