  • any - Car Insurance for automatic 15 May 2020 (Forum)
I read in todays paper, I won't say which one as it tends to set people off in another direction, that it can cost £100 more on the premium for driving an automatic car. Apparently the reason is due to the added complication of auto boxes and cost to repair?  Since when has an insurance company had to concern itself with repairs to auto gearboxes other than the odd box damaged in crashes?
  • Audi A2 - Replacement Windscreen 13 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I specifically requested an OE screen but they sent a Chinese copy. Also having it fitted at their depot seems to not be an option any more , so it's on the drive if you have no garage. Also concerned that the sealant won't set in cold or damp temperatures. Grateful your advice

  • Audi A4 B6 - Air con failure 7 Nov 2019 (Forum)
My air con is blowing out warm air until I have been driving for 20 minutes when it is slightly cooler. Firstly the compressor pulley was found to have come adrift and was bolted back on. A refill made a slight improvement and showed no leaks. Does the symptoms lead you to draw any conclusions?
  • Nissan Maxima QX - Nissan Maxima QX 10 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Have just inherited a Nissan QX. I wasn't sure about the car but Cannot believe how nice it is to drive.  The car is 20 years old and everything works perfect on it. Its big and comfy   not a sports car but comes with more toys  than my modern car. Does anyone else have one on here and have any views?

  • Merc A class CDI 1.8 (2013) - Noisy Engine 1 Jun 2018 (Forum)
I have just purchased a 2013 Merc A class 1.8 CDI with 30,000 and full Merc service history. Car drives great but I find the engine noisy for a diesel. It doesnt sound like there anything sinister. Just sounds like a noisy diesel. Is this the norm for these engines? I have read about faulty fuel injectors could be a potential cause.
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 24-03-2018 Part 1 15 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Interestng to read the comment about the 1 Series in the snow. I wonder if part of the problem is the car being so light? My 435d has X-Drive and standard tyres and it's been surprisingly grippy and stable on the recent snow and ice - even on the hills of Sheffield and the higher stretches of the A68.
  • Police want your DashCam footage 23 Feb 2018 (Forum)
The police in my area as well other forces around the UK are asking for your DashCam footage of bad driving, texting using phones etc. Which is fair enough. But they will only accept them if you are prepared to stand in court if prosecution did proceed. Why for small offences when they have video footage with all the details of time, date, speed and GPS on most DashCams.

  • Smoking at the wheel 7 Dec 2017 (Forum)
The car was next to me and I had difficulty seeing the smoker.   Using a mobile phone while driving is illegal; how about smoking an ordinary cigarette ?   My car, ten years old, has a cigar lighter.   Do new cars have a cigar lighter?

  • Grand scenic 1.9 2004 - New clutch biting point 6 Nov 2017 (Forum)
Since we had it back we have noticed the biting point on the new clutch is very low maybe 2 inches from the floor. Is it normal to have it this low. All gear changes smooth. No issues with drive and no wierd noises.
  • From The Sun - car reviews 4 Nov 2017 (Forum)
Honestly I only buy the paper for the crossword, ( i can usually do it with a bit of lateral thinking..) But did this reviewer drive the car? And if so will he ever be invited again? I’ll go right ahead and say it. I wasn’t expecting much from this car. The MG3 supermini is a plastic turd inside and the GS SUV, while better inside, looks like a plastic turd outside.
  • Hyundai i10 - Gearbox removal 31 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Hi All, My car  went to the garage (main dealer) yesterday because the gears were slipping slightly, 1 small slip for about 2 hours of driving. I then got a call to say the gearbox had to be removed, as its the only way to see if it damaged. They said it was and that it needs replacing. Can anyone tell me, is the only way to tell if a gearbox needs replacing to remove it?
